Theatre seats are hard but cushioned, and the space is sharply raked so all spots have a good view of the stage. The show I saw had booming sound and colorful lighting and both were well supported by the venue's lighting and sound rigs. You can bring drinks from the bar into the theatre if you want to sip while watching. While I didn't order any food, the fully-vegan menu looked great. Prices seemed reasonable and things coming out of the kitchen smelled good. There's also outdoor bench-style seating so you could even come to The Yard just for a vegan North African meal with a beer from one of the nearby breweries.

The downstairs is dominated by the open kitchen area, which means you can see your food being prepared, although it can also feel a bit like Piccadilly Circus when they're busy, since it is a little cramped. The decor has references to tennis and the Wombles (look them up if you are too young to remember them). The reasons it is my favourite, though, have nothing to do with decor. Firstly, they do the best pizza I've tasted across the chain, and on a really good night they are up there with the best pizza I've ever had (and given I've travelled extensively in the USA and Italy, that is definitely a compliment). Either way you prefer, The Spice is a great place for a family meal, however on the weekend it is prone to the ritual lads curry before a night out so it does get quite loud and can be an intimidating place for young families or the younger group booking. Our advice, if you are in that category, is to make an earlier booking. There isn't any onsite parking but there is parking along the neighbouring roads. But across the road from The Spice is Chelmsford town's bus station, where all of the local and national buses arrive and depart from. Also down the road from The Spice is Chelmsford's train station, which in total is only a 5 minute walk away. Therefore The Spice has many options of how to get there from all over Essex.

The friendly bloke who runs this stand apparently operates a few other ones around London including the halloumi and mezze stand on the end of Leather Lane Market. Whilst chatting with him as my wrap was being prepared, I discovered that Victus & Bibo used to be a juice and coffee stand in the mornings and a food prep area for other stands. Currently, they're sorting the inside of this stand to eventually be a breakfast stop for coffees, juices, and porridge, as well as continuing to serve lunch. In fact, rumour has it they've netted a World Barista Champion to serve up the java! As far as the actual grub goes, I was merrily satisfied with my 'lamb bread': ground meat, veg, sauces, with grilled halloumi for one quid extra. It's quite the affordably filling lunch at £4.50 that won't leave you feeling like you just consumed a gut bomb (I'm looking at you, Chilango).
