Got the Mayfair Classic with haddock, chips, mushy peas, curry sauce, and English breakfast tea. Solid fish and chips -- proper crispy batter, decent chips -- but didn't deliver the hype, especially at £27 for the classic alone. More of a Mayfair location premium than a destination meal. Service was fine, kitchen clearly busy. Worth a try if you're already in the area; wouldn't trek across London for it. 3 stars out of 5.
I'd give Mayfair Chippy about 3.5 stars. It's a solid fish and chips place, but it didn't really stand out to me or feel worth the hype. The fish and chips were good overall. The fish was fried nicely with a buttery flavor, and the tartar sauce really stood out. It was very flavorful and tasted house-made. The fries were a bit soggy for my taste, though if you like thick, softer fries, you might enjoy them. The prawn toast had good flavor, but the batter was a bit too thick. The Pie Minister dish was not for me. The mashed peas needed more seasoning, and the meat in the pie lacked flavor and had a mushy texture throughout. I also wish the pie crust had been flakier. The shop is quite small, so it can feel a little tight inside. The waiter was nice, and most of the food came out fairly quickly, although the pie did take longer. Overall, it's a dependable spot for fish and chips, but I wouldn't wait in a long line for it.

I love that the portions are pretty big, we were able to share between two people and we still had some chips left over. The fish was super moist and practically fell apart. But the outside was still super crispy without feeling too oily. The curry and tartar sauce were delicious. And the salt and vinegar was really good on the crispy chips (which also didn't feel too oily and gross). I don't think I'll ever really understand mushy peas as a concept. But it was also pretty good. The waiter was super friendly and cracked a lot of jokes. I could tell he was very used to dealing with tourists though, I think I heard him warn like three tables (us included) about keeping our phones out on the table because it's common for strangers to just snatch it up when they walk by. I also love the little bag of candy they bring out along with the bill!
Long overdue review, but went on a week-long trip to London in the fall and the Mayfair Chippy was by far one of the most memorable meals we had! Came here as a group of 4 for dinner on a weeknight with no reservation, but only waited around 25 minutes in line then got seated indoors. This was conveniently located near the tube stop and Oxford Street - great meal after a day of shopping/sight-seeing. Our server, Isaac, was awesome - super friendly and made our experience more enjoyable! We ordered the classic fish and chips with both cod and haddock, and also thought both the sauces (gravy and curry) paired nicely with the meal. Both the fish were perfectly cooked and flaky, although the haddock had a slightly sweeter flavor that stood out in a good way. The chips were great as well, not overly salty. We ended our meal with the Sticky Date Pudding and it was SO delicious, I think about this dessert all the time!!! Such a great experience and if you're visiting London, definitely try the Mayfair Chippy! Worth the hype!
i got rained on while eating here and honestly with an umbrella on hand, couldn't complain. the fish and chips were good and that tartar sauce is gorgeous. my server was so kind and accommodating. the view of the buildings and the people watching opportunities made a solo fish and chips trip relaxing and enjoyable. but was a bit overpriced overall. my total came out to be nearly 50 US dollars for a slab of fried fish, chips, and small sides of tartar sauce, curry, and mushy peas. you could probably find something just as good for much cheaper if you scoured london a bit more. a side note, as i traveled london, i heard the most saturated amount of american accents at this restaurant. maybe it was coincidence. but do with that what you will.
The fish and chips (cod) was 10/10 the best I've ever had!! Service was great, super nice & accommodating. Ambiance was okay, this location is small and it was a bit hot because of that. Overall though this didn't bother us. Reasonably priced too. I will come back next time I'm in London!
Not me getting secondhand embarrassment while a lady sitting at the next table over also with an American accent yells at the server "WHaT's tHe Wi-Fi pAsSwORD?!?!" D; I don't associate with her!! Lol. Major props to the very polite and patient staff dealing with rather obnoxious tourists (quite a bunch of tourists dining here actually). Delicately flaky and super tender fried cod here!! Batter held a little too much oil for my liking though, but not a dealbreaker. Pretty standard chips but huge portion (this fish & chips Mayfair classic entree is definitely sharable between two hungry people). Also tried the baked sourdough bread. Scrumptiously crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Didn't really notice any tang though. Overall the overly-touristy vibe was kinda a buzzkill, but if you happen to be in the area and are craving for fish & chips (and don't mind the crowding; very packed inside) then I still recommend checking this spot out!
The number one food I was looking forward to trying in England was fish and chips! After perusing the internet, many had recommended The Mayfair Chippy! I made reservations for our group and we had an enjoyable meal. Reservations are highly encouraged because this place is packed with people and has lines of those waiting to dine. We arrived a few minutes past our reservation, and they called me, but we were still well cared for. The service was quite accommodating as we requested to be at a different table. The wait staff checked on us and took great care. The restaurant is somewhat big, with tables for two and a few larger tables spread both inside and outside. It's loud, bustling, and busy. I had to have the Fried Haddock, Chips, Mushy Peas, and Chip Shop Curry Sauce. First off the portions here are massive! It was a giant piece of fish and loads of fries. Honestly, I think I ate three chips (fries) because I was so focused and full from the fish. The fish was perfectly fried, golden crisp, and the fish was so moist and delectable. I loved their tartar sauce but still getting acquainted with curry sauce! The mushy peas were fun to try but a one-and-done for me. My group also shared the Eton Mess for dessert which was airy, creamy, and sweet. The reviews are right, The Mayfair Chippy is an excellent choice for fish and chips. Even residents in London have spoken highly of the place! Just be sure to make reservations. You can find them in Mayfair off North Audley Street.

Still worth a try if you're not in a rush. Pro tip: If you're hungry and want to eat fast, go straight for the fish n chips. They nailed it! Would 100% go back. Best fish and chips place in Mayfair. So good we went twice during our trip to London. We didn't have reservations so had to wait about 40 minutes for a table for 5. Book reservations if you can! It is a touristy spot and locals like it too. Saw lots of takeout orders also. You can wonder around the food hall next door while waiting. Food was amazing. Fish was crisp on outside and juicy on inside. They had sides that were very kid-friendly. Glad we found this place!
Had great reviews and had to drop by while in covent garden. It was packed on a Tuesday evening but the host did a great job of seating us. Had the fried mushrooms as an appetizer and cod and chips for main course. The fried mushrooms were large and had a great fry which you would expect from a premier fish and chip spot. It came with a truffle dipping sauce. It was a tasty appetizer. The cod and chips were a very good dish. The fry again was perfect and they got us our food straight from the fryer, it was piping hot. Great cook and the fish was nice and moist. Only feedback was that is could have used a little more salt. The chips were good but they could have been a tad more crisp. In all excellent meal and even better service.
My friend and I were in London this past week and we had been wanting to try a good fish and chips spot. This restaurant popped up for her while searching on Yelp. As most restaurants in London, it is small and very busy. My friend got the traditional fish and chips and I got the fish sandwich which also came with chips. The food was excellent! Everything was hot and tasted fresh. Portion size is quite large as well. Service was prompt and friendly. I highly recommend making reservations because it gets very busy and your table time is limited to an hour. Definitely a spot I'd come back to whenever I find myself back in London.

This was my most anticipated meal while visiting London, and it did not disappoint! Perfectly fried and generous portion of fish accompanied by piping hot crispy yet creamy fries/chips, served with tartar sauce, curry sauce, and mushy peas. Vinegar, salt and ketchup were also available and plentiful for dipping or dredging to your heart's content. We tried the cod/haddock and the hake, which was so light and delicate. The lobster roll was sadly over-dressed and lacking in lobster meat - save your stomach space for the fish. Decent beer and wine selections are available to wash down the fried feast. read more

Mayfair Chippy absolutely lived up to the hype. The fish was fresh, flaky, and wrapped in a perfectly crisp batter that stayed light instead of greasy. The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London. read more

I couldn't believe how long the line was, we booked months ago and waited 2 minutes and were seated. Really nice service and the food was amazing! The oysters were huge and so fresh! The best Haddock fish & chips! So fresh and very lightly fried. Highly recommend, great area! read more

Fish and chips was a must eat for our short visit to London, and I'm so glad we got to try Mayfair Chippy. We got there maybe around 6pm on a weekday and there was a small line to dine in. Since we were hungry, we ended up ordering to go instead, and the food was ready within 10 min! There's 2 parks within walking distance, we chose to go Hyde Park, which is a little further but still a quick walk. The fish was really fresh and crispy, and was really good with their tartar sauce. The roe sauce was also good, and changes the flavor profile. Fries were hitting as well, but my favorite might have been the complimentary bread and butter! The bread was so soft and fluffy and the butter was very soft and spreadable. Overall, a quick great meal. read more
This was a very beautiful restaurant located on Brompton Road in Kensington. We were seated immediately in the sun room. The seating outside ends at a specific time and we didn't want to start outside and be relocated inside once the time came. The service was quick. Our drinks came within 7 minutes of ordering. The fish and chips were fresh and plentiful, you get a piece of cod well worth the price (you can also order haddock). It came with a side of tartar sauce, mushed peas and your choice of curry sauce or gravy. I chose the curry sauce and dipped my chips in it. With the malt vinegar and tartar sauce, this fish was perfect, flaky and fried to perfection. The Paloma was the best one I've ever had. Perfect balance of tang and tequila. This restaurant is definitely worth a try! read more
Fantastic fish and chips, we mainly went because they offer a halal option! Just make sure to mention that you want it halal, it's on the menu as well. Service was top-notch, everyone was beyond kind and ready to help. We were thankfully able to get a table inside, but it was nice that they had blankets for those sitting outside. Our group of 4 went on a Thursday evening (right before 5) and were able to get in without a reservation within 15 minutes. That being said, I HIGHLY recommend booking a reservation online as the que quickly went from 15 minutes to an hour and 45 minutes. I wish we had gone with a bigger appetite as we saw people ordering mussels, oysters, etc. but the one order of fish and chips was so big that most of us didn't finish it. 2 people could easily split the dish. read more
I've been going to the Mayfair Chippy for over four years, as I travel to London around three times per year. I've always been impressed with their fish and chips, not only because of the fresh taste, but also with my meal's presentation (see picture). You receive the fried fish portion on top of a mountain of chips, all on a wooden board. Also on the wooden board are three separate cups containing tartar sauce, mushy peas, and either gravy or mild curry for your chips. Today is the first time I've visited in over a year. I'll now tell you how it has changed... and not for the better. First, cod has disappeared, and is now replaced by hake, for "sustainability purposes". I looked it up, and coincidentially, hake is cheaper than cod. Second, the fish portion was significantly smaller than my previous visits. The chips, tartar sauce, mushy peas, and curry sauce were exactly as I remembered. A nice touch is that they give you a small bag with various taffy candies with your bill. Now, the two changes that dropped my star rating: (1) the price has increased dramatically, while the fish quantity and quality have decreased; (2) they have added a an automatic 12.5% service charge to every bill, even if you are eating alone. Of course, this is not drawn to your attention, and they even have a line for Tip in addition on your bill. Of course, visitors from other countries fall for this trick and add a tip on top of the mandatory service charge... without knowing. At least they should rename the Tip line as Additional Gratuity for full disclosure. read more

Best fish and chips in London! Getting this for dinner my second night in England was a very good experience. The servings were huge! Where I could hardly finish all my food. The quality of the fish was superb and the chips were equally as good. I had to wait in a queue for about 15-20 min before getting seated since I did not have reservations. So I would suggest booking a spot in advance if you know you want to try this spot. The location is small but mighty and the staff is very friendly to give the entire place a good vibe. They go the extra mile incase you have any food allergies and they make gluten free fish and chips which is what my girlfriend was looking for. This spot is a must a try! read more
I have seen a long line in front of this place, but I arrived around 5pm on a weekday and was seated promptly. I cannot speak for any item but fish and chip. The size of the fish was very big! It was perfectly cooked while still moist inside. Their curry sauce is amazing too. Fries are just okay in my opinion....but to be fair, I never really like British chips. Great service by hostess, and waiter....food came out quick. Perfect for solo dining :) read more
Slightly pricey eats at a quality chippy. When I lived in London, would bring visitors here for some quality fish and chips. Pub fish and chips are typically solid, but wanted to 100% make sure everyone enjoys the food. Recently went on a Saturday evening, ordered both the cod and haddock - along with a take on the HP sauce and a curry sauce. I typically like haddock more, but preferred the cod this time around. Enjoyed both sauces. Service was decent (it is the UK), and it's cleaner than your typical pub. Would def come back when I'm in town again! read more

Delicious! The fish and chips lived up to the hype. They came out hot and fresh and paired well with the tartar sauce and curry sauce. The batter wasn't too thick and the fish was yummy and flaky. The mussels appetizer was a generous sharing size and the sourdough that came with it was nice for dipping into the white wine sauce. This restaurant is very popular so I recommend making a reservation as there was a long queue for walk-ins. read more
I'm a novice fish and chipper with no palate to understand which one is the best. Mayfair fries a beautiful fish with texture and taste. The tartar sauce isn't the pasty thickness you get at other places but still good. Oysters are eh, underwhelming. Chips are nicely fried and fluffy. Overall a great place. read more
Omg. Once again, returning to a perfect fish prepared with golden beauty and laying on the plate with eyes devouring up before it ever hits the fork. Their detail of visual connection between the person eating and the way the food was prepared was a marriage. I loved this fish so much. It was nice to have it as I have never really been a huge fan of fish till I found that some people make it exactly like I like it. This was one of those places. read more

Mayfair Chippy is a must visit in London for the best fish and chips! I highly recommend reservations to avoid a long wait. I made reservations and we were promptly seated. The restaurant is small but warms and inviting. Love the pictures on the walls. We love the fried fish! Both the fried cod and haddock were fresh and flaky. The batter was crispy and airy. I liked the taste of the Haddock more. The chips could have been crunchier, but we still ate them all. I also enjoyed my beet salad. Very fresh with a generous amount of colorful beets. read more

The fish and chips comes with two sauces and mushy peas. Fish was AMAZING . Fresh fresh fresh. Great light batter The only fails were the sides: Chips? Cooked earlier and hard. The mushy peas. Too watery. Strong bacon taste. Such are the costs of fame and being too busy. The place is small, and packing like a tin of sardines. Walls are fun. Not for the claustrophobic.
