Love getting such great bargains on fresh fruits and veggies every time I get off the train at this stop. Like $1 for 5 oranges or $1 on a bunch of crispy green seedless grapes, it's hard to get the same if not even similar deals in Flushing or Chinatown. Service is simple, decent and fast. This grocery store is very likely a family-own business for many years in the neighborhood. Ambiance wise is your typical grocery store kind of vibes. Mango Rico is a heavily visited vegetable/fruit stand market. It's narrow and small but it sure packs a punch for they have so many diverse items to purchase. Conveniently located near the 82nd Street Subway Station (MTA 7 train). Inexpensive prices with huge selection. Someone stopped me as I entered further into the store. She wanted my opinion on which item to get. I never met the lady before. You are just like one of the neighbors here. These are the items that I purchased and I spend under $15 bucks and I made two trips. -5 Limes for $1 -3 pound bag of Bosc Pear for $2.99- Yes you need check the bags to make sure they not over ripe. -Mandarin Oranges Bag for $4.99- Yes, need to examine before buying -Mushrooms were $1.29 -My favorite $1.99 Pineapple Even though long lines which moves fast, the two cashiers are fast with checking you out as well as patient with you fumbling for change. I came back twice to purchase more items after making a pitstop at Chick-fil A. Receipts are provided so you know how much items are as well as what you are paying for. One guy replenishing supplies and unloading more pineapples into the bin. Will be back soon. read more

My friend who lives in Jackson heights took me to Mango Rico for cheap vegetables and fruits. This is what I like when I go shopping in the area. There are so many supermarkets and for grocery shopping you can find everything here. Mango Rico is a small place with lots of food but the con is there is also space to walk without pumping in to another customer. The way they organize the line to the cashier is not so convenient. With the long line I need to pass everyone in the order to go to the back. Another thing is they don't accept credit card so you must have cash. But pro is the price is cheap. read more

Both locations near my home have excellent quality produce for reasonable prices. They also significantly discount over-ripe pieces of fruit or veggies which is helpful for baking or making sauces. Great produce store in the Elmhurst and Jackson Heights area. - Cheap cheap cheap items. Obviously some stuff can be over priced, but most stuff is very competitively priced. - Decent variety of stuff - Open late, I want to say 11pm - midnight - Can get very crowded - Huge negative is their garbage on the street blocks a majority of the sidewalk, creating a nuisance for pedestrians If you can't find good produce here, check the store right across the street. I've been going to Mango Rico for a few years to get affordable fruit and vegetable until today. My experience was very horrible when I went in the store and got accused of stealing grapes that I literally bought from the store across the street (82 Market). A Asian man (the owner I think) put hands on me and went in my bag and accused me of stealing grapes from this store of which was false. Twice I told him not to touch me and I didn't steal anything. The man spoke very little English and mind you that I was the only black person in the store so out all people, I obviously got picked out so I did sense racism. He ordered me to come across the street with him to price that I paid for my grapes at 82 Market. When the cashier confirmed that I paid for the grapes, the man looked really stupid and apologized to me. I told him that I'm never shopping here again and he is racist because he thinks black people are thieves. If you are of color, never ever shop at Mango Rico or 82 Market. They don't know how to treat people of color especially black people (mind you that this is a South American neighborhood and they deemed me a threat because I'm not white or South American)! This is 2020 in Queens NY, not 1991 in South Central Los Angeles. 29 years later, they still don't respect black people. That's one of the reasons why we're protest! This is a great produce store. They always have cheap prices and fresh fruits and vegetables. As Laura E. mentions the aisles are narrow. I purchase my produce here pretty frequently since it's only a couple blocks from my place. I highly recommend Mango Rico! read more

I am updating this to be 3 stars due to my latest visit, which was not encouraging. Some of the produce still looks fine and fresh and cheap, but what I went to get was zucchini, which they are keeping un-refrigerated on a hot day. This has apparently caused fruit flies or some sort of flies to be attracted to the zucchini and when I got close to have a look, about 50 flies started buzzing around. Gross. I also checked the red onions and they did not appear fresh. I thought about plums, too, and they were not that great either. Perhaps the produce is not doing well due to the weather (hot and humid) but then they need to have more refrigeration or cooler storage. I still got some other items because overall I think it's a decent store with some good items and cheap prices. For zucchini I walked a few blocks over to Kim Brothers on 80th and 37th and they keep theirs refrigerated so it's fresh. read more

I like this store and happy to live near-by. They do a good job of providing us with varieties of seasonal vegetables and fruits. Their price range is more than reasonable. Though the place is busy most of the time, Cashiers and the management are pretty promt on their duties. I highly recommend this store, if you are in a mood for vegetables and fruits. read more
