We chose to shop at this nursery because of its proximity to Rye. They also have some few helpful people outside. However the owner is very arrogant and unprofessional to the level that he actually berates you for your questions. They are also very disorganized and deceptive. We bought some pebbles, mulch etc. They told us they would deliver without disclosing a $50 delivery fee (not knowing the fee we also tipped the delivery person for $20). We placed an order for a tree which they were supposed the deliver in the next few days. We called after few days and were told in a grumpy tone that it could not be delivered yet but perhaps the next day. Then we did not hear from them. . After a week or waiting, this was the last drop. I cancelled my order and placed an online order with fastgrowingtrees. So much for trying to help local business. read more

Saw an ad for this place on a local new show. Took me a few tries to find it. (its E Boston Post Rd.. I was looking on Boston Post Rd).. I almost missed it, but am I glad I didn't. I finally got there on Friday. It's not a seasonal farmers market.....its actually a farmers market and garden center. It doesn't look like much. From the outside it looks like any garden center. But when you go inside, there is a wonderful supply of fresh and local produce. The man behind the counter was nice and very helpful. I just got a few vegetables to try: eggplant, zucchini, onions, 2 kinds of potatoes, tomatoes, corn and parsley. When I cooked up the veggies, I couldn't believe the how fresh and delicious everything was. I forgot how 'real' vegetables tasted! I am going back today, Sunday, to get more veggies and this time, I'll pick up some fruit too! read more

We stopped by Mangone's on our way to the Rye farmers market and bought swet donut peaches, deep red ripe tomatoes, local melon, and fresh figs. The produce was uniformly excellent and the prices reasonable. We will definitely return. read more

I bought medium and tiny pumpkins there. They kindly selected good shape pumpkins for me. It's nice place to go as a local customer. I also bought some vegetables in summer. The sweet corns were so much sweet and my kids loved its corn soup which I made with. But as for petit tomatoes, they were no good. Several tomatoes were too bitter, I couldn't eat them. I can eat too sour like too young, but at that time they were too old??? I think I was unlucky at that time... Anyway, I'm going there for having something fresh sooner or later. read more

This review will hopefully help someone out there to avoid being swindled like I was. The owner and the staff are completely removed from the business of gardening. They have no real interest in helping customers, their guarantee has never held true, and they have zero knowledge no matter what question you ask. Worst of all, they actually lie to the customers. It's one thing for the garden center staff to have no idea how to answer a question about any garden center items. That is bad enough. But this place actually goes a step beyond that. They won't say they don't know the answer to something you ask for help with-- instead they are all drones-- they purposefully mislead the customers. We did a little business with them periodically for some years, buying hundreds of dollars worth, or even a few thousand dollars worth, depending on what the occasion was that we needed garden items for. We run a nonprofit. We had to go to this place because they were in a nearby town and we are sometimes in a rush or can't hunt all over the County for what we need. We thought they were a family business, but it's clear to me now that they are not. There is an owner who is there on occasion. But he will not leave his stance behind a cooler, he gives some meager lip service at first, but barely says anything, even as you express interest and gratitude for the shop. He literally never cracks a smile. He only scowls and lamely tries to intimidate people. It quickly becomes apparent that there is no loyalty or real depth to the place. It's like a stage set, and they are just trying to grab your cash before you know any better. Next thing you know, they sold you a plant that they assured you was for indoors but it was actually for the outdoors. Or vice versa. They will promise you a plant that blooms, but the plant actually has no chance of survival and will be toast within 24 hours. They will promise you whatever you want, but their word means nothing. It's something I had heard about them before but I never wanted to believe. They deny any wrongdoing if you try to get help with a plant once you are out of the parking lot. They will not even give you credit, even if you come back within a matter of hours. If you say "But you said this about the plant yesterday, and it is actually not the case, so can I buy a different plant? " they will refuse to help in any manner. They play dumb. They act like you actually owe them your money. It's a con game that I never expected to see in such a place. I can't even believe they have customers. It's no wonder the place is usually empty. They must get very little repeat customers. On top of the terrible lack of honesty and lack of service, then I discovered a bunch of weevils on their plants. I know that plants can often carry various kinds of bugs or insects. OK. But seeing an infestation of beetles and weevils, fungus, black spot, pests, random signals of disease on Mangone's plants over the years, and most recently, within an hour of purchasing them-- that is an eye opening experience. The worst part is not even the plants. The worst part is that the staff at Mangone's is totally robotic. They don't really want you to pause and look at any labels or look at the plants...they get impatient and act jumpy and weird if you want to think about something for even one minute before you purchase it. They are by far the most unfriendly, rude bunch we've ever encountered at a garden store. Not even in a comical way. It's in a way that makes you wish you hadn't wasted your money or your breath on the whole visit. Basically you leave feeling robbed. They also seem like they're literally under the influence of some kind of drug or alcohol. Drugs more than alcohol. It is quite crazy. Substances being abused at a place of business is really not the main point of this review. They should keep their drug and alcohol use off the premises. But the consequence is that it's far too unprofessional to have guys with no plant knowledge there, falsely helping customers who come in asking about plants. I guess the reason this review is necessary is because it's a place to steer clear of...the Mangone's Garden Center is a downright creepy place to bring children, once you see that everyone working there is either way too aggressive or completely out of it. Garden Centers are usually peaceful, helpful environments. This place is more like a crypt. Except it draws you in with its colorful veneer. We will not buy anything from them again. It's just a big lure. There is never any follow through--they might as well be selling snake oil. I feel like we are fools for having done business with them so many times in past years. There is no changing that fact. All we can do is take our business elsewhere and post reviews wherever possible. Glad I'm now aware of those weevils and evils at Mangone's! A real shame. read more
