Dr. Randall Williams is my PCP and has got to be the best diagnostician I've ever seen. 99% of the time he's right and I've gotten to trust him completely. The office may be a little old but that's more than made up for how fast and efficient using the patient portal is. I've actually gotten responses to questions on a Sunday. Office staff is great. I sometimes wait longer than I want to for my appointments but that's offset by being able to walk in. Next door is Mangrove dermatology, which I visited after a missed diagnosis from another well-known "fancy" dermatologist. They were also great. read more

Dr Randall Williams is my general practice doctor and I have been very impressed by him. Staff are very efficient at their jobs and everything runs smoothly from scheduling appts to short wait times. Completely convenient and efficient on site lab and xray dept. My doctor always arrives with an entourage of nursing staff to respond promptly to his orders. I have been going to Mangrove Medical Clinic for over 10 years now. My PCP is Dr. Avilla, and I love him. He really listens to me and cares. The care I receive is top notch. The building has been remodeled and so the environment is very calm and soothing. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Sometimes I have to wait a bit, but I really don't mind. Apparently there are no qualified doctors at this facility to make referrals when other doctors are on vacation and there areee no qualified medical doctors who can take care of "female complaints". This office is a joke. My husband goes here and he has never been happy. I go elsewhere, thank God. I'm going to recommend to my husband to go elsewhere now, too. The office is in dire need of a good cleaning and some modern updating. Dr Avilla isn't the best listener, and he referred my husband to Dr Kevin Sorenson for a colonoscopy. The problem is that Dr Sorensen is NOT a gastroenterologist so why the referral? He is NOT an expert in that field! Furthermore, Dr Sorenson made a comment asking if my husband had eaten a pretzel stick during his prep, (which absolutely did not happen), stating that he thinks he saw a pretzel during the scope procedure.What does he imagined happened?? That my husband swallowed a pretzel stick whole and it survived the entire way through his stomach and intestines unscathed?? I mean, COME ON! Is he actually serious? When I pointed this out to Dr Sorenson he deflected and seemed quite nervous. Also, when having procedures done at this office, spouses are not allowed to sit with their loved ones to see them off. I have literally never experienced anything so absurd in my entire life. We have zero confidence in this office and we are obviously extremely displeased!! read more

I love that the appointment desk is run smoothly & efficiently. I love that there's a lab on site. I love that there's ALWAYS ample parking. I love that Drs cover for each other so there's no waiting on a Dr getting back from vacation when you need to schedule an appointment for something NOW that isn't worthy of the ER at the hospital. Dr. Avilla was ok and I will decide more at my next appt. However, I had to wait 50 minutes to get into a exam room and that was with an appointment. Once in the room, and a few minutes with the nurse, it was another 15 min waiting for the doctor. Waiting over an hour to see a doctor, when you have an appt seems unfair. Particularly when you are there due to a injured ham string. Many people came in after me and left before me. When I left the doctor, I went out to pick up paper work and all 3 reception windows were un-attended. I had to call out for help. I am hoping my next visit will be better. read more

Honestly... Dr. Sorensen has been a breath of fresh air for me and my loved ones. I recently had a medical emergency that left me broken in so many ways that I was not optimistic about healing. At first I was thinking it wasn't possible to treat my addiction issues in conjunction with this recent medical emergency but now I know that it can be done. Dr. Sorensen has given me a light at the end of the tunnel and I'm now hopeful to heal and stay healthy. Also, mangrove medical treated me within 15 minutes after signing in today & I was a walk in! I had no appointment but was still able to be seen SUPER FAST. I needed X rays and I was able to get those done just down the hall in the same building. SUPER CONVENIENT. Worst medical facility I've ever been to and I've worked in the medical field for 25+ years. It's dirty. There is no chain of command available when help is needed. The MA that works with my provider is worthless. They do have some competent employees I just have not had one consistently. Actively looking for care elsewhere unfortunately this area doesn't have medical care available in a timely manner. The doctors that I have seen have listened to me and answered all of my questions. The most uninformed medical practice in Chico. Dr. Johnson does not listen to his patients and is merely going through the motions. You literally have to retell him your medical history EVERY time you see him. He is not proactive in taking steps to diagnose an issue which prolongs the agony for the patient. He also overprescribes potentially dangerous medications if not used correctly and gives little or no instruction on how to use. He should have his license revoked! Thank goodness his nurses are attentive and intelligent. He is lucky to have them. The front desk staff is a three ring circus with no ringmaster--utter chaos with no accountability. He treats us not only as our doctor but also as a friend. My mom sees Dr Avilla. He is patient with her and treats her with respect. She is 93 and needs this type of relationship with her doctor. I have been going to Dr. Williams for over 30 years, And I am very pleased. If I send a message or post a question to him or his nurse on the patient portal it is answered with in 24 hours. He has great patient etiquette and listens to what you have to say. He was my mom's doctor as well and saved her life more than once. read more

Recently took my son here to establish care because we've had great expereinces with the group in the past. Can't believe they are requiring all fully INSURED patients to pay them $125 as a security deposit to access care!! Most of us can barely afford comprehensive insurance for our family and now this??? Sorry, as much as my past experience here has been positive, this is a terrible policy and it should really be reconsidered. If (as a business) you are having trouble collecting from some individuals then you don't punish your client list as a whole!! I just felt this was extremely degrading and inappropriate and I will look elsewhere for our family's primary care needs. If enough of their clients refuse this then I think they'd quickly revaluate such a policy. read more

Wow. I haven't even been to my first appointment yet and I am already glad I won't. I was really trying to give this office and Dr KJ a chance, but I can't see that they even care. They have this really helpful looking patient portal, but they don't read the messages you send. All my forms were in Spanish so I asked them to change it, but 5 days later and they haven't changed it. The required deposit is also something I have never heard of and looks like a bright red flag to me. I have a valid serious concern about the Dr I was scheduled to see so I messaged him, but no reply. So I called to cancel because I figure if they are this slow to reply and they want a large deposit, something isn't right. I gave the girl one last chance to convince me to stay, but she just said "ok you're canceled. Bye." Wow. Not the care I am looking for. read more

Mangrove Medical makes you put down an out-of-pocket deposit of $135 before they'll schedule your first appointment. They claim it's a safeguard to ensure they receive payment through your insurance. The representative further explained that "they don't know what a first appointment will look like in terms of cost. The doctor could order lab work, X-rays, etc to get the medical information they need". I argued that in no way should a first appointment require all of these additional tests, and that I would be happy to provide medical records instead. I further explained that I was solely hoping to renew a prescription for birth control pills (a prescription that I've had for over a year through my last insurance provider- Kaiser). She told me I would have to make an appointment with one of their gynecologists. I explained that I have received birth control from my primary care doctors and even nurse practitioners in the past. She told me that they would prefer I go to one of their gynecologists because they "may want to run hormone level tests" before renewing my prescription. This entire conversation screamed UPCODING. It sounds as though they attempt to run every test possible to make as much money off of visits as they possibly can. No other medical establishment has ever required an out-of-pocket deposit, nor unnecessary lab work such as "hormone level testing". I would highly recommend doing major research before committing to this medical group. Something seems very off. read more

I've had a very different experience. After moving from a different state I needed a new PCP this place was just about the only one accepting new patients. I was scheduled to see Dr. Williams. I walked in, in the counter on the side is a sign in sheet that your suppose to know where it is and your suppose to know to sign in. After being told rudely I signed in and took a seat. I probably waited for about 10 minutes before going in. The doctor came in. He seemed VERY uninterested. He only looked up a couple of times from his computer. I felt that I was such an inconvenience for him. He didnt ask questions so I went ahead and rambled. I felt really uncomfortable and that shouldn't be the case. The assistant was rude. The doctor made snarky comments that were unnecessary. I really felt weird where I knew this wasn't the doctor for me. Once I was finished and he finished he ordered blood test and said he would see me in a week or two. He literally walked out of the room and didn't say anything. Not a "okay we'll discuss what's going on after I've seen the blood test", nothing, he walked out. I was confused because I didn't know where to walk out towards. I then stuck my head out and yelled "where I'm I suppose to walk out of?" He didn't turn around he just said "the door you came through" haha okay so I did that. Once I got to the counter to make a follow up the lady was so rude and looked at me like I was speaking jibberish to her. This made me even more confused and upset. Anyways I went to schedule blood work and they were a lot nicer there more informative then the people at the other counter. Ill have to be returning however I'll be hopefully seeing another doctor. read more

After my first appointment here I was thinking I was going to look for a new doc. The place is old and it seems like most of the docs require new patients to have all their medical history sent before they can even be seen. Fortunately, I just wanted a place to go once a year for chick stuff, and Barbara was accepting new patients. She's nice enough and her assistant is cool. Unfortunately, I needed to see a doc immediately and Barbara was on vacation. They said I could see Dr. Simpson so I went ahead with the appointment. Now, here come the reasons I won't be looking for a new primary care doc: Dr. Simpson was totally awesome. Really nice, down to earth, friendly and quick. The lab - the nurse who took my blood did it so quick and it was painless. They are remodeling - the building is super old but I can tell they are improving. My 16 yr old son sees Dr Simpson and we really like him. Not only is he knowledgeable and we feel confident with his care, but he has a great bedside manner and spends an ectra few minutes talking about lifestyle changes to go the extra mile to feel healthy and have a good life. Note, get to your appt really early. The other day we were there 10 min early and we didn't get called up to the reception area for check in until 15 min after the appt time. I'm still new to this doctor's office, but I was very pleased with my initial first appointment with Dr. Simpson & my return visit to the lab for blood work. I was on the hunt for a general doctor here in Chico just for general check ins, physicals, etc. I suffer from a little doctors office anxiety and really dread medical offices, but I definitely felt well taken care of and calm here. All of the staff was very polite and helpful and I never had that "Where do I go, what do I do" feeling like I have had at previous medical offices and appointments. Location is great, plenty of parking and the office is very clean if a little outdated aesthetically :) I was also very happy with Dr. Simpson as a general practice doctor. He has great bedside manner and it was easy to talk with him and he seemed to genuinely show interest. Dr. K. J. is the kind you hear/ are warned about. Never seemed to care about much except for getting me to schedule another visit. Stopped seeing him because my visits were far from productive. Most of the time he was clueless to what our appointment/ follow up visit was even for. Just cost me time and money. Terrible doctor. At least if you burn your money you'd get a little heat. From the first time I came in for an appointment I was impressed by the staff at the front desk. It was very busy and yet the ladies were very efficient and personable. They worked quickly but I never felt rushed. I didn't have to wait long and the examination room was clean and simple. The doctor's assistant was pleasant and thorough with her inquiries as to why I was there. She went through my personal medical history writing down explanations more in-depth. When it came time for me to meet Dr. Kurt Johnson I was pleased with him as a whole, very pleasant, well dressed, very thorough as he went over my history. I was VERY SICK on my first appointment and I even needed for my mom to help me explain why was I there. She explained that I had been very I'll for almost 4 years, had seen several other doctors prior to seeing him, was miss DIAGNOSED and I feel not listened to. Dr. Johnson asked many questions during my explanations as to why I was needing help. He definitely was and still is very good at making you feel like you're his one and only patient! He made me feel like he was up to the task of figuring out what I had. This first appointment was all the way back in 2000 and as it has turned out, HE SAVED MY LIFE‼ I can express my full gratitude for listening to my explanations, circumstances and actual happenings that had brought me to my knees, causing me to close my business, caused my family to disagree and doubt my symptoms. Your phone number and email address will become their marketing tools, reminding you to come in even if nothing is wrong, because your insurance will pay for it. read more

Worse place I have ever been. The place is worn down, looks really old. But the main problem is that they demand, rudely, that you pay $135.00 up front! I have good insurance, through Blue Shield, that they are contracted with. I was there for an annual physical, which is supposed to be free according to the Affordable Care Act provisions, and even if it was not free, the contracted rate for Blue Shield for an office visit is not more than $65.00. It is illegal and unethical for them to demand $135 up front and then to rudely say I can leave if I don't want to pay that outrageous up-front fee! read more

Don't waste your time. Had a 9:10 appointment for a follow up. Showed up 15 minutes early. Checked in and paid my co-pay and had a seat. 45 minutes go by (30 after my scheduled appointment time ) and I was not only yet to be seen...but other people that had walked in after me were already in and some out. I asked what was going on. The kid at the desk said my Dr. knew I was there...just may be backed up. Even tho other people have already gone in before me who showed up after. I've been going here for over ten years. I've been to other doctors in Chico but MMG is by far hands down the best care I've received. While I do miss the two ladies,m who recently retired that use to run the office, the new crew have done a bang up job taking over for them. I've never had any problems getting an appointment within a reasonable amount of time, even on short notice. read more
