Looks like it was recently renovated. Has very nice vibes for studying. The kids section on the top floor is beautiful. The only negative was that I was expecting a coffee machine in the cafe they have but no coffee or tea. There was only a vending machine for snacks. Tea/Coffee machine would definitely be a nice addition. But other than that it's a nice library with lots of room to spread out. Lots of private nooks to study or have group sessions. The inside of the library is clean, organized and the layout is nice. You can usually find a spot to sit and take advantage of the free Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, this library is different than many others in the Nassau Library system in that all of the media (CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray, etc) are all in locked cases so if you wish to use them, you need to check them out first. You cannot come down to the library for a work session while you listen to a soundtrack or watch a movie on your laptop - you will need a library card for that. If you are not a resident of the Manhasset School District or working in Manhasset, this will not be available for you. The locked materials seem unnecessary to me because there are scanners at the doorway so if this is to deter theft, visitors are checked each time they enter/exit the library. The process makes it feel like this library isn't really for everyone in the nearby public. read more

My grade school teachers didn't fail me. I can in fact read! Unfortunately, these days reading isn't as relevant as it once was. So why go to a library? Well, Manhasset Public Library gives you a few literary reasons to make the trip, and then some. It impressed the pages out of me yesterday. Just in the category of ambiance helps to show the awesomeness of this place. Three floors with different sections (such as children's and young adult) spread all about. Throw in some quiet reading rooms and plenty of circular tables and seats as a final touch. The first floor holds a lot of flare for privacy and at moments it's amazing how quiet the place can be. You couldn't even hear a pin drop! Beyond the ambiance, I liked perusing the movie selection. They have a pretty elaborate collection of DVDs (for what's not on Netflix), along with CDs (music burning?) and even video games (for the gamer in us all). The truly impressive aspect of everything was the staff. The clerks at the front desk were extremely helpful, funny, friendly, personable, and just all around great people. It felt like I was a member of the community, one that had been frequenting the place for years. The final kicker? Working in the Manhasset school district gives you the ability to obtain a Manhasset library card (free of charge) with all privileges of any Manhasset patron. I've never heard of this before and decided why not? I grabbed a couple of "New" labeled DVDs that only Manhasset patrons can check out. It's good to have privileges. Overall, if you were dreaming of a perfect library, Manhasset Public Library might just fit the bill. It puts my actual public library to shame (maybe I'll review it one day). For now I'll consider coming by MPL more frequently and so should you to check out all it has to offer, and maybe even read a book! read more

A beautiful library. It is right off Shelter Rock Road and Northern Blvd. Quite easy to get to. The building is easily noticeable because it is so beautifully designed. It has three floors and a basement. The top floor is the kid's section. The second floor has study areas as well as a Teen Zone. The first floor has a well maintained magazine room and the basement has a clean and very polished restroom areas. Restrooms are located on each floor and an elevator serves the library both on the inside and a service elevator located at the lobby. The building is well stocked with many selections of books and magazines. Also WIFI is free for it's patrons. There are easily accessible computers on the first floor and in the Teen Zone. The staff is very professional although I sometimes feel they are on the snootier side and why not? This place is fancy! The decor is neutrals mixed with red/dark woods. There is a nice quiet, not an eery quiet, to this library that is very conducive to studying. If you need a private space, you can sign up for one of the study rooms which has a window, a table and a set of chairs for four or six that can close off a study group to be as rowdy as they want. They have a parking lot. Which only gives away the fact that I'm a New Yorker. This library is so useful and beautiful that I have to give it 5 stars even with a little snootiness. read more

Visited long island this summer and decided to study here for the past 3 days. Found it to be clean and organized. Library has a wide variety of books and genres even with a children section on the 3rd floor. Quiet study rooms on the 2nd floor. Clean restrooms with a snacking/lounging area. Despite the beautiful library, the staff is extremely snotty and obnoxious. Seems as if there is no form of social morality. The staff was way too passive aggressive for me without headphones. Maybe its the nerd in me but I love this public library. Its clean and the staff are friendly. Feel free to stop by. They have plenty of public computers with printers. Key word public so be careful of what sites you browse. They have three floors that cater to all age groups. Children's room, teen zone, and adults. They have a variety of programs throughout the day so stop by and check it out. So of the programs include yoga, career counseling, and movie night! They have a small cafe for snacks just in case you get hungry. They also have study rooms for groups and tutoring. This is a great resource and learning environment. Remember shishhhh no talking! One of the nicest libraries around. I like the "cafe" where there are vending machines and couches and tables where u can eat ur lunch. They even have those fancy check out machines where u put ur pile a books to borrow on and it automatically scans all the books at once. Very cool. The only negative is that unless you belong to this library, you can't check out the latest DVDs, but the have a great selection. Checkout people are quick and courteous. read more

This is hands down one of the nicest libraries I have ever been to. Everything is brand new - the furniture, the walls, the shelves....all except the books lol... But it is a great place to study and to find quiet and peace. The local students may get loud there after school but it is overall a wonderful library. read more

One of our favorite libraries. The librarian in the kids department has been so helpful to us everytime we are there. She is just one of those people who loved what they do. The arts and crafts/ activity room in the kids sept is nice and spacey. The other good thing is that there is an inside cafe where the little ones can go down to and have a snack. read more

I never actually thought I'd be yelping about a library... but hey why not? While the Shelter Rock Library was closed for the past few months due to renovations, the next closest library was the Manhasset Public Library and being that I'm definitely not a fan of studying at places like Starbucks where there's way too much noise, I decided to come here. Positives: 1) Free Wi-Fi... which is awesome because there's way too many other libraries which require you to be a patron in order to utilize their wi-fi 2) Huge Parking lot... so there's no struggle finding parking 3) There are a bunch of food places nearby so that you can quickly grab a bite during a study break and not worry about wasting too much time 4) It is a beautiful, extremely clean and very well kept library 5) It's right off Northern Blvd. so its a breeze to get to 6) It seems as if their variety in terms of movies/books is extremely plentiful And now to the negatives... 1) As beautiful and as large as this library may be, its layout is the most inefficient that I have EVER seen. There is SO much open space that they very easily could have fit at least ten to fifteen extra tables in here for people to read/study on. Instead, they choose to just leave the empty spaces... empty (what a waste!) Don't plan on getting a table unless you show up in the morning or unless you stake one out for about half an hour 2) Despite there being signs everywhere saying no cell phones... people continue to pick up their cell phones and have LOUD and LONG conversations in the quiet area.. and the librarians don't say anything about it. 3) On the second floor is an area for teens to congregate, while overall this is a great idea, the teens make so much noise and flood the entire second floor with so much noise that studying in this area is no longer conducive once after-school hours have begun. (Once again, the librarians say nothing about this) 4) The librarians are SO LOUD - they have loud conversations at the check out desk and on their phones, and yell across the floor to each other if they need anything. ridiculous. Overall, if you are in school, and need a place to constantly study, I would get here as soon as it opens and try to nag a table on the second floor. Once 3pm hits.. go somewhere else, or invest in a spectacular pair of earplugs/headphones. If on the other hand, you're just looking to grab a book/movie, then this may be the place to go because it seems like they are extremely well stocked in both categories. read more

This is a very nice building that has a ton of materials including books, magazines, and movies. The teen zone is nice if you have younger kids, where they are seperated from adults with their own computers etc. The library only has 2 main problems. The layout was not planned well. There is a lot of empty space that can be used more effeciently. Also, the staff are incompetent and undertrained with the systems. I have 2 houses and an apartment and they refused to let me take out movies because my address was different than on my card, despite the fact all libraries are linked together. So, just be prepared to deal with the relentless and rude staff if they happen to mess up your information. Otherwise, the place is alright and very resourceful. read more

Wonderul support of the arts at this library. I have been part of many of the juried shows here, with Amy Finkstein, the Art Coordinator. The shows have expanded now on all floors and stairways and it makes a beautiful library even better. Some shows are open to Manhasset residents and others outside of the community, but each show has a great theme and much to reflect on and enjoy. The main artwork is usually in the Community Room which is an elevator ride down one floor from the entrance or take the winding staircase downstairs to the room. read more

This is a beautiful, quiet and well stocked library(they could expand their classical cd collection).. Librarians and circulation staff are very helpful, and order/find books and dvds efficiently. Staff is cordial and do "extras" to be of service, whether in person or on the phone. The e-mail alerts are especially useful. Street access and parking lot facillities are good, and they schedule many interesting events in the basement. The lounge is nicely laid out, with many newspapers available, coffee machine, etc. All in all, a pleasant place to visit and take advantage of. read more

Pros: -Wifi -Lots of space -Programs for various age groups -Events -Peace and Quiet -Clean -Good Collections. Cons: -Librarians are unhelpful,LAZY, and snooty. Only a few are willing to help. Some of the librarians just sit at their desk and look at their computers. They don't even bother to greet you. -The return policy for DVDS and movies isn't fair. -If you have a DVD from them, return it fast! I was charged for a DVD that I returned the day after I borrowed it. -You need to live in Nassau County to borrow anything from this library. Even though the library is called the Manhasset PUBLIC library. -If you want to participate in the programs, you must live in Manhasset. This library should be called the Library for the citizens of Manhasset (Only). -Librarians are very loud. -The man who runs the Summer Volunteer Program for the Children's Room is a pervert. read more

Good place to study and browse books. They even have Xbox, Wii, and PS3 games. Pretty good movie section too. I'm a fan of the clean study rooms and the bathrooms. I wish there was a coffee shop close by!!! read more
