The librarians are extremely helpful and literally walked me to find each of my books. It's quiet, clean, and has so many resources. Our tax dollars are put to very good work here. Without a doubt this library get 5 stars. It's big, bright, spacious, plenty of parking, great team, great resources and easy in out and parking. You walk into this big complex, but feel like there is just so much more here. People drinking coffee, people working and those just relaxing. It is big and bright and you can feel the space. It is clear that the Port Washington Library was built to be more than just you regular book depository. I was here specifically for an event in the downstairs theatre and was happily surprised to see just how big this theatre is. Between the size of the stage, the lighting and sound, it was clear that this auditorium was built to be a multi-purpose room. There is plenty of room for any kind of entertainment. Upstairs along with the incredible selection of book and periodicals, they have a big selection of DVD and movies and video games. This place just has something for everyone. This is clearly a model library and Port Washington residents should be very proud of this contribution to the town. While my contact was minimal with the team, clearly anyone I asked a question was more than happy to help. It seems that not only were the patrons happy to be here, but clearly the team running and working here really enjoy what they do. It does not do the building justice just to call is a library... it is so much more. read more

Port Washington Public Library - Beautiful lecture room. - Libraries Near Me - Port Washington, New York

I once wrote a review about the awesomeness that is Manhasset Public Library. Well, that spot is still pretty stellar, but in the literary realm, the real king is Port Washington. Woah mama, what a place! The building itself is huge and doesn't entirely feel like a library. Even when you finally enter through its doors, there's a mix of museum, cafe, and almost the idea that you're chilling in a friends lavish living room that happens to have an awesome view of the town. Spatially, the sections are broken up into multiple floors and with that you get some really nice architecture which lends partly to the museum feel. The other museum-ness comes from the lower level and their art gallery, a spot that might be worth checking out even if you were illiterate. Speaking of which, if you're not a fan of books, there's plenty of DVDs to take out. No seriously, there's more here than any other Nassau library. Many times I've searched for an obscure movie on the database and 99% of the time, if any library has it, it's PW. Staff was also friendly and welcoming, making it feel a little more like you're a part of Port Washington (even if you're not). Either way, you're still welcome to enjoy everything this library has to offer. Overall, Port Washington Library is truly grand and worthy of a stop any time you find yourself heading up north on the island. I don't always have the opportunity, but with the nice weather comin', expect more checkins. Swing by and get on that too. Book fan or not, you won't regret it. read more

The Port Washington Library was kind enough to reach out to my writing group to host events throughout the month of November. We've had 2 of the events and the library staff has been super nice, accommodating and resourceful. With some stellar views of the sound on the upper floors, it's a great spot to get work done. And getting my work done has been so badly a priority. I may not be a member of the library (I don't live in Port Washington) but they were still wonderful in getting me hooked up with a Lynda.com account so yay even more learning to be had! They were also nice enough to supply some light refreshments for my group which is even more great considering we're sitting and writing for long stretches of time, and even though we're in the Hagedorn room, I was unclear if that meant we could bring in food or not. As Arthur says, having fun isn't hard unless you've got a library card. The parking lot is pretty great and it's nearby some great restaurants and local shops which make a day in the area a breeze. read more

The Greatest Library in the world. I worked there for a time & I miss it now that I don't live in P-Dubs anymore. They've got an expansive media section (CDs, DVDs, & rows & rows of rare & awesome videos), & -- obviously -- a ridiculous bounty of books to choose from. They also always manage to have a great arts/events calendar (despite this being a fairly small town), & amazing programs for the community. PWPL FO LYFE. read more

They say I owe them 15$. THERE IS NO WAY I OWE THEM 15$. Im sorry your workers lost the movie I returned but I returned it the same day I took it out cus it sucked. That aside this is one of the best public library's I have ever been to. Massive amounts of books, moves, CDs, Audio books. Really everything you want. And an amazing view, From my softmore year of HS till I went to college you would see me in the mane floor every Monday - Thursday doing home work. If you have never done it take a walk out on to the deck and look out over the water, best view in town. The one thing that would make this bett That being said they will never get my 15$. I have visited many libraries and my visit the Port Washington Public Library showed am a library with great resources, staff and facilities. The library is a great size, with cozy little places to study, read or just browse. The staff is knowledgeable and there is always someone available to assist you. The collections are diverse and they should you able to fill all your informational needs. The community of Port Washington should be very happy to have a great public library right in their backyard. read more

Very nice library, as for the librarians...not so much. Very nasty and unapproachable. Two in particular will not even pick their head ups to speak to you. It's makes asking for help, resources or even a study room impossible. read more

They have a great selection of movies and video games! Whenever I come to the library to borrow a movie, it always take a long time because there are so many. They have a huge section of international films. I have borrowed Chinese and Korean movies. They have a really cute section made just for kids. They have study rooms that you can reserve and free wi-fi. You can get free passes to select museums . The only negative thing is that sometimes, it can get really loud because they hold events at the library. One time, an orchestra was practicing or performing, and I could hear the instruments on the second floor. read more

There are two librarians who I always feel are very nasty when I go to the counter to borrow books. They NEVER look at you and say hello back to you. They just enjoy chatting with co-workers while you hand books/library card to them. I like this library because of the wide selection of books/dvds, good atmosphere, nice play area for kids. So those unpleasant librarians make you rate this nice library lower than it should be. read more

Hands down one of the best public libraries on Long Island. It is great for kids, students, adults and seniors, it truly services for the whole community. I come here sometimes when I need to work on a project and the office is too distracting. It has an atmosphere that is very conducive for concentration and it has a nice view for when you look up and need to take a break. Fom the parking lot to the DVD collection this place is top-notch. read more

In my opinion, the public computers at the Port Washington Public Library are slow and the process for printing from the computers is needlessly cumbersome. Other libraries in the Nassau system seem to have much faster computers and easier printing systems. read more

Definitely a 5 star library. They are always helpful and professional. Their website and app both work very well and it is easy to request a book or DVD that they will get from another library if they don't have it available. You will receive an email notification when the item requested has arrived. They also offer many program options from lectures, concert, movies (to name a few). read more
