The first thing I can say is if you are planning to stop by here- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allot a hefty amount of time for it. James is a wealth of information and these works that are the size of walls are so detailed and researched that he will explain why he painted what where he did in great detail. You have to come here once. It's an area and region MUST! They also have originals, prints, and framed works for sale as well- I have several! If you google James Groves and are from the Cumberland area you'll immediately know what works I mean- from paintings of downtown, to the churches on Washington Street, to the overlooks in the area and in the Narrows. Such a genius of painting. Glad I have met him.

The store, located on the second floor the building which also houses Deep Creek Donuts & FunTime Watersports, is a relatively small shop. I am not sure if they are handicap accessible but I do not believe they are. It is also very quiet inside which was a little awkward shopping with a companion and trying to have light conversation while shopping; they might benefit from playing some soft music to make it more inviting. The handmade pottery is beautiful and priced very reasonable - there are small certified cards inside that tell you when/where/who made your art- a very nice touch. They also have a nice selection of geodes, agates, healing stones, and other decorative stones which are very trendy right now. Their clothing selection features mostly T-shirts and similar garments screen-printed with Native-inspired images. They also have jewelry cases along the wall that extend 2 complete walls of the shop; complete with lots of silver and beaded items that are just beautiful. This is a really cool shop loaded with neat goodies, and it's unlike any shop I've ever seen as it focuses on Native offerings which are beautiful and well-made. I have purchased several real geode/stone magnets, large geode bookends, pottery, and some home decor items- I always find something to take home with me! There are some restored antique cars and a wagon. Upstairs are lots of tires (the area made tires). There are also antique toy trains all over. There's a huge dining/conference center too. Shortly after the relief of being under cover I was mesmerized by the two-story museum and the diverse collection of antique horse-drawn carriages. Not only were the various carriages beautifully restored but they signage was great and the volunteer docent was friendly and informative but not over-bearing. The pride in this collection of carriages from the late 1800s and early 1900s is evident. I liked the whimsical beach-going carriage and the macabre casket carriages. I also found the golf cart carriage interesting. This little museum is definitely worth a visit.

The gallery is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1pm-4pm. While the local artwork is nice, the highlight of a visit will be the 1800s Victorian-style building itself. You'll find lovely decorative features in all the rooms on lower and upper levels of the house in addition to a well-preserved Singer sewing machine. Everything from the carpet to the interior of rooms have been carefully restored. The docent shared a brief history of the building. Even the restroom is worth a stop as it includes a very old photo of the 1916 Tank Corps from the American Expeditory Force in World War I.
