These people are downright scammers and thieves. I have dealt with them for years with my real estate brokerage, and they've always been great with me until I became a personal customer. They up sold me over the phone on a larger storage unit which I didn't need that they said would cost only $80 per month because that particular unit was on sale. It wound up actually costing me $120 a month with the insurance that they didn't tell me and then after two or three months they jacked up the price with no notice the price went all the way up to $240 which I refuse to pay so now they're saying they're going to auction off all of my things. read more

Can't express enough how bad this company is especially since it was bought by StorageMart a Missouri based company that has nothing to do with the spirit of NYC. I had my personal stuff with them for more than 4 years and last year at some point I had some health problems and forgot to update my payment method. After a few months I tried to pay and called them and found out that this terrible people auctioned my stuff. I have no words to express my disappointment and the damage they did to me and my family. RUN. DO NOT USE THIS STORAGE PLACE. These people are so evil. They don't care at all about their customers, this is so horrible I have no idea what to even do right now. I rented this unit after finding out so had to leave to country for work on very short notice. I started moving in my belongings. Halfway through my code to get in the building stopped working. There was someone else outside having the exact same issue. But they aren't leaving the country for work so they can confront these horrible people tomorrow at 8am when they will actually answer. Half my stuff is inside; half is out. They say no one can help me until 8am. I have to be at the airport at 4am. I paid way too much for this unit, and I can't even cancel and move my stuff to another place. I'm completely screwed. They had the audacity to tell me they couldn't do anything because what was happening was "not an emergency, a emergency is when the building is on fire." Right now I am standing outside, half my stuff inside, half out. They have my money and my stuff--and I bet you these evil people keep charging me the full amount each month even after what they did. read more

Don't be fooled by the "sale" prices on the website. Under the new ownership by StorageMart this company relentlessly raises prices without notifying the customer in advance multiple times throughout the year. In my case, despite being a longtime customer, the rent on one of my units has gone up more than 20% so far in 2024 (two separate rate increases so far). And just try complaining about this as it's the corporate HQ in the midwest that makes the decisions, not the local management. The manager there doesn't answer the phone or return calls. Good place. I used them for temporary storage. I stored smaller items, books, etc - so my experience may be different. I found it very clean, felt safe and customer service was very good. I liked that the facility is air conditioned, to protect my stuff! I liked how it was open early and closed late, to accomodate my crazy schedule. I had one of the top closet lockers. It was not that bad, used the BIG ladder to put my stuff in the locker. Ladder is sturdy, but if you are afraid if heights - beware. My partner, who was authorized to do everything per their online form, arrived full of stuff from their "shuttle service" and **IS NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING** When I called and spoke to Devon Osuna, and simply asked him why I couldn't make the payment over the phone, his response was "oh this is a modern card reader, you can't type anything in" - WELL IT'S NOT THAT MODERN IF YOU CAN'T TAKE A PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE OR VIA THE WEB. Every heard of eCommerce? Then, after he cowardly ended the call, he THREATENED my partner saying "I can ban him from storing anything at this location just for being rude on the phone" - wow big man threaten my 5'4 wife after you hang up the phone with me. - Nothing can actually be done through their website, all you do is basically submit an "interest form" the process is the same as in person. So YOU have to physically go in person no matter what. - In the 21st century they CAN'T EVEN TAKE PAYMENT over the phone or over the web. I can get a auto loan and insurance over the phone. - Yes there are several additional fees. You find out about some AFTER you submit the interest form, via email. $29 admin fee (not sure for what). They require you to buy their insurance if you don't bring proof of insurance with you. Also, you supply your own lock, but they conveniently have them their for $16. read more

The staff there are professional, courteous and knowledgeable. All the staff there are terrific, but I do want to point out Trevor and Kenneth as being especially helpful. Hidden fees everywhere. They made the insurance seem like it was mandatory. And then when I found out it wasn't mandatory I tried to cancel it. Except it's impossible to cancel because they'll find some way to weasel out of cancellation. Advertised rate of 39 a month (+12 extra for uncancellable insurance for 51 a month-- and this is with the student discount). First month I paid 100 dollars after all the hidden fees. Its gotten to the point where support just ignores my emails when I ask them the steps I take to cancel insurance. They literally do not reply. When you go in-person, silver-tongued employees will help you out. But you don't really get to know them until they take your money. Ways they have avoided my requests to cancel the insurance 1) tell me that I have to go to the website rather than talk to an employee in person. 2) website has no such option to cancel insurance 3) support staff says that you can't cancel insurance unless you disable monthly payments entirely-- wtf what does this have to do with anything? 4) when I attempt to pay a lump sum, they refuse to say how much I actually need to pay. Apparently I should guesstimate and if I'm off, I'll probably be fined for the last month! 5) and as their last resort, they will literally just ignore emails (even though I only sent 1 or 2 polite followups). Deceptive business practices aside, the rest is fine. The facility is clean, and appears secure. But I still feel defrauded, hence the 1 star review. EDIT: They got back to me after seeing this review. Rep cut to the chase and stopped bullshitting me. Insurance is now cancelled so I'll bump this up to 3 stars. read more

To paraphrase Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, "It's F*cking golden!" if you don't live in a doorman building. The last time I went to the UPS midtown shipping hellhole, I waited four hours and was lucky to get one of the two packages that were supposed to be there. I also got to witness a world class shouting match and more idle employees than an octopus could shake eight sticks at. I just moved out because of the new manager that has taken over. Pharma reps are only allowed 10 case deliveries and after six years they decided to enforce it. I felt that it was wrong to treat a customer this way. All previous managers called u as soon as the shipments come in. This manager kept my packages for about a month and then, I guess realized they were there and called me after about a month to let me know I had to remove them. After telling her why didn't call me earlier, she said they did buy couldn't show me the calling logs. Why wouldn't u keep calling or have the boxes removed since that's their policy. In other words she screwed up. Then I talk to a couple of people at the place and they say im.not the only one moving out. Lol. Pharma reps be aware. I'm a fair person and I enjoyed the people there but under no circumstances would I store my things in a place that's not flexible to my needs. Lesson learned: make your reservation online, bring a copy of your renter's insurance. After a long day and 3 visits to the place, I'm finally a proud renter of an MMS unit. I'm excited about free coffee and UPS pick-up and van usage. It was an absolute pain in the butt to get to this point because 1) if you just go in and ask for a quote, it will be higher than the internet rates and they can't adjust the contract without an internet reservation at the internet rate and 2) they'll charge you an additional $10 for some farcical insurance policy unless you bring your own proof of insurance. They'll also tell you that most renter's insurance doesn't cover property at a storage unit which is a bold faced lie. But, I have keys in hand and a clean storage unit and free coffee and UPS pick-up and van usage now. Word to the wise: reserve online and bring your renter's policy. If you don't have one, they only cost $10 a month through State Farm and cover theft and fire and everything else in your apartment as well as the storage unit, so there really is no point in buying the MMS policy, unless you like to waste perfectly good money. read more

Got evicted on Wednesday had my stuff in here by Sunday. They were friendly and easy to deal with. The place has parking spaces right by the elevator it's pretty much a loading dock. We never quite got the point of paying for a storage locker, but while changing apartments it became necessary. So wonderfully convenient! Pack up your stuff, and it's easily accessible. Now we get it: a wonderful way to extend your apartment storage. The team at 107th St. is fantastic-- warm, friendly, helpful and with a good sense of humor. And you can get a ride one-way: so dropping off is so easy, or get yourself up there and get your large items back for free. I've done business with the UWS MMS for the last three years; as a Columbia student, I wanted a flexible storage arrangement near campus that gave me control over when and how I stored/picked up my stuff. MMS is virtually turnkey, complete with clean facilities and every convenience necessary for a hassle-free move. In particular, I've repeatedly had the pleasure of dealing with Tony and Patricia, who are always professional, helpful, and kind. Moving stuff in NYC is pretty low on my list of fun activities, but Tony, Patricia, and the MMS staff make it just about as pleasant as it could be. Highly recommended. read more

UPDATE AS OF SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2012: STORM SURGE FROM HURRICANE SANDY. Hurricane Sandy's tidal surge completely overran the 531 West 21st Street location, submerging 300 units in the basement (including mine) and a good portion of the first floor, too,. Because Manhattan Mini Storage did not send ANY advance notice ahead of the storm to its customers that this specific facility was in FLOOD ZONE A (highest risk, as designated by Mayor Bloomberg), customers like me who lived at a distance and were preoccuppied with hurricane preps at our homes and jobs LOST EVERYTHING TO STINKING HUDSON RIVER AND SEWER BACKFLOW. This negligence (failure to provide advance caution to remove stored basement items) literally turned the lives of as many 300 customers UPSIDE DOWN. When I opened my storage locker on Day 10 after Sandy struck, all my property was up-ended, waterlogged, moldy and destroyed after being submerged in briny Hudson waters for several days. I know that NO notice was given in advance to customers, because I surveyed fellow shell-shocked 531 West 21st Street customers as we moved through the upsetting and disgusting task of emptying/examining our utterly ruined personal possessions. THIS IS A TRAVESTY THAT O-N-E SIMPLE, ADVANCE BROADCAST WARNING E-MAIL TO CUSTOMERS COULD HAVE PREVENTED, However, Manhattan Mini Storage apparently had issues with flooding at this very location in the past (prior to Sandy) and may not have wanted to raise this red flag with present or future customers. So what did they do??? NOTHING. They allowed us, their unfortunate customers, to BEAR THIS FLOODING RISK - making their neglect to warn us about this specific facility's danger from Sandy even worse, Management were aware that our insurance coverage WOULD NOT COMPENSATE CUSTOMERS FOR FLOODING. *************************************************************************** At the West 58th St location my stuff was safe, the facilities were very clean, and I felt safe on the storage floor. Desk staff were also generally very helpful. However, I didn't have the "luxurious" experience that others mention - I understand that different facilities (some older, some newer) vary along the amenities continuum. When I checked in to my unit in 2003, there was a burned-out flourescent bulb right over my unit, making it hard to see inside the unit. I advised the management several times over the years, but they never made the repair. I vacated my unit in mid-2010 and the bulb was still broken. I would advise new storage renters to be aware that you will be asked abot your "off-premises insurance coverage". Caveat emptor! This form of coverage is part of many homeower or renter insurance policies, that protects your property outside your insured home (e.g, at a storage facility, or in your car). Manhattan Mini-Storage's policy does NOT require you to pay extra each month for their in-house "KeepSafe" insurance plan - if you are SURE that you already have this private coverage through your existing insurance, you are now free to decline it and save yourself money on your monthly rental rate. But, do check with your own insurer to make sure that your property is covered, before you decline this insurance from MMS. You'd be very sorry if some loss (fire, theft) occurrred at your storage unit, and you were to realize too late that your stored property was unprotected. Be flexible about the particular storage location that you reserve with MMS! You can save a great deal on your rates by asking their advisors about alternate locations, AND by committing to minium storage periods (e.g., 6 months at least). And....what's not to like about their new, FREE "Storage Taxi" service?? I need storage again now, and thanks to finding some fantastic rates when I CALLED Manhattan Mini-Storage this week, and to their new storage taxi, I will soon be a happy MMS customer again. read more

Been a renter here for a few years. Wish this place was open 24 hours, since I do a lot of things before the 10:00pm closing time, but you do what you can. The staff is great here. Antonio/Tony, one of the employees here, is helpful to me whenever I have questions or concerns. He even helped relocate headphones that I accidentally left in the bathroom weeks ago. Can't beat that kind of service! I rent a 3 x 3 x 3 storage space. With insurance, I pay about $50 a month. The rates do go up incrementally with each year you stay with them, so warning you all about that. From a business standpoint, I understand why they do that. They expect you to only be there for a short time for the low rate they initially charge. It's probably in the fine print as I had not known that, but personally don't have a problem with it now. The parking garage has about 6 spots available for cars to drop their stuff off, including three spots with an elevated platform for trucks for drop-off/loading purposes. I believe it's a 2-hour limit. But hey, free parking is free parking - in Manhattan nonetheless. Plus, the place provides hand trucks/dollies so you can easily transport your stuff to and from your storage. Great place overall to store your stuff. read more

This review is for the West 107th St facility specifically...because the people who work there are awesome. Patricia the manager and a nice young woman named Sakura are just a delight. I can't believe Patricia always remembers me, but maybe because there was so much hoopla with my move in (all my fault to be fair). Two thumbs up, five stars, high five, all that for Patricia and her team! As for the company as a whole, Manhattan Mini Storage and I have a love-hate relationship. They make it easy, fairly convenient, and quick especially for last minute move ins. 9 times out of 10, really great customer service, REALLY great. Do they charge residential apartment rates for units that are always a few inches short, charge me for windowsills halfway up the wall, or my favorite, giant chunks of space taken away by pipes, columns, etc? Yup. But what are ya gonna do...they try and make up for it I think with conveniences like carts, that Storage Taxi, etc. I have another unit downtown now, over the years have had MMS units here and there and yonder, and this place on 107 is by far my fave. As a company though, they make a hell of an effort, which says a lot. I won't be specific, but there was an emergency at the downtown facility, and I was impressed to see they brought in managers and help from all over the city to mitigate the damage and assist customers. I guess all in all, the main reason for not giving that fifth star is the shenanigans all the time with measurements of units. Yea, that's it. I'd gladly pay for a unit of x-dimensions if I knew that was what I was getting, but close enough works I guess. Kinda like four out of five stars, right? Close enough. read more

What can I say? Outstanding customer service, cleanliness and spacious! I wasn't expecting much when I walked into this location besides a key and a box but what was offered here was beyond my expectations. Let's begin with the location,it was very spacious and easily accessible, enough seating to accommodate enough guests at the desk area. I was greeted by the woman behind the desk and was offered a warm smile and a bottle of water. For a second there I forgot where I was! She was very friendly and understanding of our circumstances and what we were looking for. For me listening is primary and what she gave us was not only listening, but and outlook that we ourselves didn't think of for our furniture. Although she worked alone it was quite obvious that she hand things under complete control and not for one second through the process did I ever feel forgotten or impatient. I was assured that they had the size storage I was looking for, what blew me away is how attentive Ms. Ebony Mouzon was! She taught me how to use the locks and asked if I had any questions I felt safe and knowledgeable accessing my storage on the first try thanks to her. I only wish that everyone was as nice as her, the warm welcoming service that she displayed and help is not found easily in NYC so it came to a big shock. I will recommend this location to all my friends and family thanks to the the great experience she gave us! As I slowly put things into my storage space, I met Jovarny who is one of the Managers. He is truly phenomenal. He helped me make the most of my space by advising me on how I should stack my stuff. He answers all of my questions with billing and never makes me feel foolish. I've never even seen him really sit down as he is always working with each and every customer that walks on in. We could be chatting it up and instantly there he goes picking up garbage from the floor making sure the counter is cleared and clean. He is professional and deserves this quick shoutout. read more

I've been storing stuff at the W107St MMS for almost 8 1/2 years now. My experience with this company has for the most part been very positive. I have dealt with some very fine MMS staff over the years, most recently with Ryan Garcia. Ryan is the model of great customer service: intelligent, pleasant and very helpful. I commend him highly. I'm not crazy about the automatic yearly increases on rental space. Especially for an "old-timer". But the FREE storage taxi is heaven sent! So I guess it's a trade-off. read more
