Needless to say, I've been a regular at UCSF Lakeshore labs for a few months and have gotten to know some of the phlebotomists here. They deserve more credit than they are given. Despite having a constantly busy influx of people, they are all kind friendly and helpful. I look forward to visiting with them, even for quick pleasantries during the 2 minute blood draw. I've seen how they've grown from being short staffed with only 2/day to 4 or 5. Sure, some days the wait can be really long but I wouldn't blame that on the staff...that's more relevant to the overwhelm of our healthcare system. Here are a few tricks I've learned to beat the crowd: - if you need labs done before work or due to fasting the night before, get there before they open at 8am - avoid Mondays and Fridays as those are the busiest days - have your ID ready to give to the receptionist upon arrival - make sure your lab orders are current to avoid delays/confusion What's also helpful is that the lab results come back within a few hours, a godsend compared to other lab services out there that take days to produce results. She was also the one who administered my tb test, and I actually didn't even feel the prick of the needle! She was very diligent and quick, and for that I'm grateful. Dr. Ami is who took care of my physical, I believe, and she made me laugh so much. She really calms any unease you may feel, but thankfully I felt none while in her care. Easy to make an online appointment which I would recommend, and make sure to show up at least 15-20 min prior to your appt so that you can find parking and get any paperwork done.

I did not feel like I was treated with kindness, empathy or compassion from Susanna, and it made every administrative task to get an appointment stressful. Example: I called in to cancel an appointment three business days in advance due to being potentially scheduled for jury duty that week. I was asked to hold the phone call, then hung up on. Then when I dialed back, I was berated, and accused of doing this consistently. Three business days is very reasonable given my civil duty, which I may be criminally liable for if I do not show up for jury duty. I asked Susanna if there was a written policy that forbids clients from canceling three business days in advance. She said no. (Lots of question marks on why I was treated that way. Oh well, moving on.) I hope this feedback serves as a wake-up call for the doctor's office to address the shortcomings in their administrative staff and improve the overall patient experience. I doubt there will be positive changes within the customer care, given comments say Susanna is his wife. Until then, I'll be seeking medical care elsewhere.

She's even called me at home with big test results. Negatives: her appts. run late, but the delays are getting shorter. The reason: she takes time with her patients.
