She is a nice person on the surface, but she's not a good doctor. If you are healthy, she will be sufficient. I was having horrible episodes of tachycardia. She referred me to cardiology, but she kept telling me I might be having a heart attack and go to the ER, which made me very anxious. I kept asking her to refer me to an endocrinologist due to a flagged test result, but she said I didn't need it because I wasn't diabetic. In this way, she was not a good doctor. I ended up needing to go to endocrinology - thankfully, my next PCP referred me. read more

She is one of the worst doctors I ever encountered. Towards the end of 2020 I went in to get a physical and wanted to get tested if I have ADHD. She basically accused me of trying to abuse Adderall and pretty much gaslighting me. I also want to get tested have any allergies she basically told me that those tests are not real. Also she made a comment about my weight gain and recommend me to go to rehab. Honestly she should not be a doctor so do yourself a favor and find a doctor that actually cares. I have had only good experiences with Dr. Amber Bellamy and her staff. She is thorough, takes her time with you, and pays attention to detail. She diagnosed so much that other doctors I've seen did not take the time to. When I had a concern and Dr. Amber wasn't available, I was still able to come in and see Dr. Adam which was nice to have the option time wise. Her front office staff is also amazing and thorough and go over and beyond to meet your needs, whether or not it benefits their office. I'm so through with this doctor!? Came here a few weeks back as a new patient. Her husband saw me as I needed a referral out for a specialist. Had a physical and important test were not conducted. I was referred out for my A1C. My high blood pressure was not addressed at 160 over 90! Here I am almost a month later and after about 4 other appointments with other specialist my high blood pressure is still an issue so I decide to come in to her rather than the emergency department. I was ten minutes late due to traffic and apologized. Mind you on my last appointment I came early and had to wait an entire hour to be seen! Well the receptionist phoned the Dr to ask if I could still be seen. I don't know what she said, but I'm sure it was rather comical. As the receptionist and her had a good giggle. I was escorted to get my weight and blood pressure which is the reason I came in. Of course it's only 170 over 120 Ugh! Is that alarming or what??? ‍ They told me to come into the room and she'll be right in. They put the sign up "Next Patient" and about 15 minutes later she opened the door saw me and immediately closed it! I waited as she conversed with her more important patients. After waiting for a long time I decided it's best to deal with the Emergency Department! Headache and blood pressure high! She just elevated it to a more excruciating level! . I just had my insurance send me a new list of primary physicians. Pray that I get an more intentional physician who cares about her patients high blood pressure at deathly levels! read more

I made an "annual preventative physical exam" appointment for my daughter and was surprised to receive a co-pay bill. My insurance completely covers such appointments and I never received a co-pay bill from my previous PCP. (who left the city a few years back) When I inquired I was directed to the gal who's in charge of their billing and was shocked to learn that "many Blue Shield/Brown & Toland" doctors will charge the insurance company for an additional appointment if your visit includes simple conversations about anything other than your weight or blood pressure. If, for example, the doctor asks you about something she sees in your records... perhaps a conversation about your situational asthma and wether or not you'd like a script for an inhaler, or your acne.... really? The insurance co was charged an additional $275 for this and the office visit apparently exited the realm of "preventative care"... hence the co-pay. This is appalling to me. Please be aware and be warned that this doctor/practice is one of many in the city that will do this. Before answering any questions you might want to clarify if the conversation will take you out of the preventative care category. I understand it's "only" an extra $25 from me, but it was an extra $275 for the insurance company and we wonder why the health care system is so broken. It's a racket. The same gal who explained this to me mentioned that she does the billing for many doctors in the city and although it has become common practice for most, some have at least sent their patients letters explaining exactly what the preventative care physical exam covers, and more importantly, what it DOESN'T. She also mentioned that this does NOT happen with Kaiser doctors... so perhaps it's time to consider switching plans when the next open enrollment period arrives. The single star rating comes after a few visits where I had less than stellar interactions with the front desk and experienced ridiculously long wait times for the doctor. I've also been double billed for services 3 times, and there's only been about 6 visits total in the last few years. Finally, the doctor herself is nice enough, but this business of asking questions and then billing for them feels really shady and I think speaks volumes for a lack of character. read more

I picked Dr. Bellamy as a primary doctor randomly based on convenience from where I live, but I just can't anymore. This was my second time seeing her, as well as my second time feeling like she really shouldn't be in this field. I've experienced WONDERFUL doctors who hear their patient's concerns and deliver their requests without a problem. But with Dr. Amber, I feel like she does the bare minimum and she had a problem referring me to an X-ray technician. I came to see her thinking that I would leave with a referral to get an x-ray. I even felt like she was trying to catch me lying bc I stated that my lower back hurts the most, and she asked me a question so I told her I feel more pain on my left side than my right. And she said "I thought you said your lower back hurts the most." It does, but the pain goes throughout my entire back which I mentioned the first few times if you would have listened! I'm going to have to schedule it myself without my "primary". She will not be primary anymore. I need a doctor who hears and understand my concerns. I have my own thoughts about her, but those are some serious accusations that should be kept. However, I have noticed that the good reviews are from people who look more like her. read more

This place is absolutely unbelievable and displayed the worst levels of competence and customer service I have ever experienced from any type of Medical Practice. I originally called looking to be a new patient to a female doctor in my area back in September. I was given an appointment for no sooner than 4 Weeks Later as she was very booked and could not get me in sooner. I wasn't sick or anything like that so I was fine with waiting I just needed to get in so I would have someone to refer to when I did need a Dr. I called back later the same day to make sure I had the correct address and also confirm my appointment time. They had no record of the appointment I had just scheduled hours earlier! I asked why was that and they could not give me an answer but said they would go ahead and schedule me an appointment we chose the same date and time and I reiterated that I wanted them to make sure they have the appointment in there since for some reason they didn't actually book it upon my first call. I was assured that they would book my appointment. Lo and behold 4 weeks later on the day of my appointment I called because I was going to be late and I wanted to see if I could be squeezed in at a later time in the day. They had no record of my appointment! Not only that I was told they wouldn't be able to squeeze me in any way bit that they can reschedule me? There was no accountability ... no one apologized. I asked if I could speak with the Dr and I was denied. I told them I would call them back. I called back about 10 minutes later nobody answered the phone I called about 3 times in a row my call was was sent straight to voicemail. Very classy. I then left a voicemail letting them know how extremely frustrated I was and that I definitely felt that they should call me back to fix the situation and try to retain me as a new patient. I received no call. Before the close of business I called them back and told them to delete my information since it was obvious they were not interested in having me as a patient. I also asked about the voicemail I left and they said oh yes we received it and that was all. If you choose to go with this doctor just make sure to call back multiple days in a row to make sure that your appointment is scheduled because clearly something wrong with these people and they're scheduling system and do not expect any type of customer service. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Amber Bellamy's for 4 years. For a while, my only complaint was that she often seemed rushed and inattentive, but then something more serious happened. I've had low iron on and off throughout my life. When I started noticing some of the symptoms of iron deficiency coming back, she first told me it was impossible because I "have hemochromatosis", which is basically the opposite of iron deficiency and also a diagnosis no doctor has ever given me. She clearly did not look at my medical history before making that statement. I then insisted I knew my medical history and the symptoms of iron deficiency quite well and asked her to give me a blood test. She then said "okay let's do it right now" even though I hadn't been fasting. The results then confirmed for her that I didn't have iron deficiency because the reference ranges are based on patients who've been fasting. My new doctor retested me after I had been properly fasting and I was indeed seriously iron deficient. She put me on supplements immediately. Wow. It's nice to have a doctor who doesn't try to convince you you're crazy. read more

Where do I start? I've been a patient for a few years and have come in a number of times. Here are some of the things that have happened: 1. Annual physical did not include all procedures traditionally considered part of a physical. 2. My insurance was billed for these procedures that didn't happen, as well as other procedures. (Insurance fraud?) 3. Similarly, Dr. Bellamy has failed to conduct standard, basic tests that most doctors would do when you come in a with a specific complaint. I have had to remind her to do these tests. This carelessness is concerning. 4. Failed to send prescriptions to the pharmacy multiple times. I have to call and bother them a hundred times before that gets done. I have gone without important medications due to this problem. 5. Tried to charge me for a flu shot, which should be free. 6. HIPAA violations abound. For example, listing protected health information on documents that should not list PHI and calling phone numbers not associated with my health record (cell number belonging to a family member), then disclosing appointment/diagnosis details to that person. 7. Have had to send multiple checks for the same bill because the front desk staff is too slow to process one in a timely manner, but fast enough to harass you about a bill you've already paid. 8. To top off their incompetence, the front desk staff is often rude and unfriendly. Dr. Bellamy herself is nice enough, but the practice is disorganized and it's a headache to deal with them. I can't think of time when I've had an appointment and something hasn't gone wrong. I think things would be much better if she hired a competent, full-time office manager familiar with running a medical practice and training a customer service-oriented staff. read more

I wanted to like this clinic since it is nearby to me and was assigned by my HMO plan, but the only thing I can say that is positive is that the front desk staff work hard and are very nice. Background: I came in because of an injury and was worried about a broken bone. The doctor reviewed it for a few minutes before recommending that I go to urgent care for x-rays. Reasons for 1 star - after my x-ray, I can't get the doctor to call me with the prognosis!! I've called at least 8 times and can only get a message relayed through the front desk staff. When I asked clarifying questions, they couldn't answer them and said the doctor would call me back... but the doctor won't call! If it was for the flu, I could see the lack of reply. But for a possible stress fracture (or broken bone), it is unacceptable. Additional reasons: - I had to sign a form saying I would not sue for medical malpractice and that any issues would only go through arbitration. I've never had to sign something like this so it is a bit disconcerting. I can say that the front desk staff is great. They chased down doctors at the nearby UCSF to get a preliminary prognosis before the radiologist completed their write-up. I've been going to Dr. Bellamy for some years now and have only positive things to say. She's an excellent listener and spends a fair amount of time talking through your situation with you. She's knowledgeable and very compassionate. She's resourceful both with diagnosis and with treatment and eager to see you for follow-ups to track the condition. My mother has had a series of pretty debilitating health problems so I started taking her to Dr. Bellamy as well. My mother--no fan of doctors!--adores her. Dr. Bellamy has been extremely caring and patient with her. You can usually get an appointment to see Dr. Amber pretty quickly. I think the staff members that previous yelpers have complained about are pretty much gone. I'm very happy to have such a good, intelligent, resourceful, caring doctor in my life. read more

I'm sorely disappointed with my experience here and would recommend that you reconsider making an appointment here unless you absolutely need to. Amber was very unhelpful and rather careless in my medical care. She dismissed me having a blood test on cholesterol because I "seemed fine" and said it can be done in the next few years. When I inquired about receiving a vaccination she told me it could be done but that I would need to call and see if I was covered since her front desk ladies "can't do it". When inquiring about my scoliosis and being recommended to a physician, she suggested stretching instead. It was a waste of my time, and frankly hers as well. The office itself is very beautifully in a nice neighborhood, easy to access. You just have to catch the receptionist at the right time, regardless of their hours. The staff here is extremely rude and unprofessional. I had to go here because it was the only place I could find a same-day appointment in the area. I walked in and the receptionist was picking at her bare feet. Gross! They had me pee into a cup in the bathroom- like a dixie drinking cup, and then leave it unlabeled in the bathroom, sitting on the sink, and it's not like they went in there right after me to get it. The receptionist asked for my copay and when I tried to hand her the $10, she just ignored me and answered a text message on her phone. They don't call you from the door of the waiting room, they yell your name from down the hall. Instead of "this way please" the receptionist say "come on!" like you're wasting their time. My arm got a nasty hematoma after getting blood drawn- that's never happened to me before so I'm pretty sure it was the person who drew the blood who screwed up. Dr. Bellamy prescribed antibiotics for a viral infection, but when that didn't work, suggested allergy medication, anti-depressants, ulcer medication, and muscle relaxants and prescribed all of these. Needless to say, I decided to get a second opinion. Doctor #2 figured out the problem in about 10 minutes. read more

Staff and doctor alike demonstrate little or no interest in the quality of care and service provided to patients. When I first moved to San Francisco in 2010, I started seeing Dr. Amber Bellamy as my primary care physician. I stopped seeing her in 2011 and it was the best decision I made! She started out appearing to be super attentive when I first saw her in November 2010 but when I saw her a month later, she completely forgot her previous diagnosis on a chronic condition I had. Then she didn't collect enough cells for a routine test so I had to come back to her office for a repeat test. She said there would be no charge - except a month later, I received a bill from their office for the visit. When I called to ask why I was billed, they said because she did a consult on my allergies. Consult? I didn't know telling her I needed a nasal spray (that she previously offered) for my allergies qualified as a "consult". And the billing staff is ridiculous - they hassled me for months over a bill that I paid by credit card. I finally had to go in the office and show my bank statement to prove that I paid the bill! Hello, I am writing to share a different vision about Dr. Amber Bellamy from another patient. I first went to see Dr. Amber I believe in 2008 and from the first visit I felt a caring attitude and she listens to her patients and makes her decision on a plan of treatment. She reacts expediciously when need be and she is a doctor first and also a friend. She cares about her patients and she goes beyond in some instances, because she cares. I have met Dr. Adam Bellamy and his attitude is the same as Dr. Amber. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but when one posts very negative comments it has long lasting consequences. I have always felt before one defames one, look at it from the point of view if someone were to say things about you that were controversal. Have the negative comments helped make anything better or just a way to vent. I feel it more advantages to share any negative comments with my doctor rather than the world. I also feel everyone has a bad day, a bad experience and somestimes the perception is one sided at best. I hope all those that leave negative comments have taken the time to speak to Dr. Amber and see if there are actually two sides to any situation. Also, I would like to say that if I have a negative treatment from her staff which I never have, I would express that to someone and not the public. Never, ever, EVER go to see this doctor. She is not only arrogant, she is incompetent besides. She has no respect for anyone's opinion, including other healthcare professionals, unless they are an M.D. She prescribed medication for me, when I told her it wasn't working, she had me double the dose. I wound up in the emergency room because of her. She told me to get a second opinion from other doctors, then advised me to withhold information about my medical history. I am not kidding. Through each of these processes Amber has been cordial, professional, compassionate and thorough. I feel very fortunate to have Amber as my doctor. My sister had an accident on an ATV yesterday and is calling Dr. Bellamy this am for direction after leaving an out of town emergency room yesterday. The front desk's reaction is "the doctor is busy with patients and will try and get back to her". My response is "she has six broken ribs and a broken collar bone, ALL SHE WANTS IS A CALL FROM HER PRIMARY DOCTOR to give her direction. The secretary's response is "there may be underlying issues, she should go to emergency." Yeah, the underlying issue is SHE HAS SIX BROKEN RIBS AND A COLLAR BONE BROKEN IN TWO PLACES!!! This office is patronizing and negligent. My sister is in too much pain to be very assertive right now. The front desk, given the circumstances, should push through the call. I think ANY office worth their medical degree could take the time to call a longtime patient with broken bones and a bruised lung. I simple phone call is all we are asking. Instead she is told to wait and "the doctor will do her best". The true test of a good medical person is how they respond when you really need them.
