My transmission unfortunately expired on me so I took it to get diagnosed at one of the closer auto…read moremechanic shops near my home. In retrospect I should have taken it to an experienced repair shop after I have gone through all that I have. I spoke with the owner Juan of B&D Master Auto Repair located at 436 Broad Street, Bristol CT 06010. He explained to me that my car needed a transmission replacement and that he would be able to get the job done. On 11/30/20 the transmission arrived at B&D Auto Repair from Chuck and Eddie's. On 12/4/20 five days later I was called by the owner Juan from B&D Auto Repair to pick up my vehicle. When I picked up the vehicle for this first time what I saw completely threw me back. My steering wheel was completely bent. The steering wheel column was vertical instead of horizontal presenting a major safety hazard. There was also an electrical code that showed on the dashboard labeled Hill Hold Disable. Please keep in mind this was never there before and unrelated to anything I brought my car in to begin with. I naturally spoke with the shop owner to figure out why these issues have occurred, and he agreed to take a further look the following day. I came back the next day to drop the car off in hopes it would be resolved relatively fast. It took seven days and many misdiagnoses that occurred during this time. I was told to come pick my car up but when I arrived my car would not start. At this point I was even more confused to why he did not know what the issues were, and why he would tell me to come pick the vehicle up just to arrive and find that it would not start. His answer was that it started before they called me. On that day I walked back home from the shop with no answers, no car and very frustrated. However, I still tried to stay optimistic and continue to give the owner every chance to make this right. I was called the next day at the end of day to come pick up my car and that it was running this time. Upon arriving I was told the car now starts and it should be good but to come back if I have any problems. I drove the car for a few days this time, but the car unfortunately during this time was back to square one and the new transmission began to show signs of failure. I brought it back to Juan at B&D and had him take another look. After two days he tells me the transmission is broken. I did not understand how this can be the case if everything was done properly but I again tried to stay calm as I understood that all parts and service are both under full warranty. I simply told him to please send back to Chuck and Eddie's what they need in order to start the return process. I asked for this to be done on 12/28/20. For two weeks Juan at B&D Auto gave me the run around when trying to furnish over the proper paperwork the seller Chuck and Eddie's were looking to get in order to send the transmission back to the supplier of the merchandise. When I asked Juan from B&D Auto for the invoice that the proper TCM programming was completed on my vehicle his answer to me was "I don't have to, that is my property". On 1/9/20 twelve days after I initially requested a copy of the invoice that my car was actually reprogramed, I finally was given a copy and not from the owner Juan at B&D Auto. I happen to catch Jimmy on this day because he was the staff person to pick up the phone at Chuck and Eddie's. Upon looking at the invoice I noticed a lot of discrepancies and saw it to be fraudulent. First off, I live in CT and I never authorized that B&D Master Auto repair allow Mavis Discount Tires to work on my vehicle. In addition, the invoice shows my vehicle as FWD but it is AWD. The invoice shows a date of 12/2/20 for the services but the invoice was made on 1/4/21. Please note Mavis Discount Tires is written on the unauthorized invoice. I have never heard of them before I got the invoice second hand. They have a poor reputation and not a place I would have authorized to reprogram the (TCM) Transmission Control Module. After little research I found that Mavis Discount Tires is currently in a class action lawsuit for falsifying that services were done for a limo company where the breaks failed causing 20 innocent people to die. I asked for my money back from B&D for what I was charged and for mishandling my vehicle while in their care. Their answer to me was what about the labor and continued to be avoidant to any responsibility for not knowing what they were doing which is very apparently noted throughout this long process. I have taken the car to an expert repair shop who knows how to fix it and who has been honest with me from the beginning.

At 111k miles my 2013 Ram 2500 had a transmission issue that forced it into "limp mode" which only…read moreallows 4th and reverse gears (so you can get it to service). I brought to Talcot Transmissions in West Hartford and they charged me $145 to "diagnose" it. They claimed the transmission needed to be removed and completely rebuilt for and additional cost of $5600. I had doubts whether all the work was needed so I brought the truck to AAMCO of East Hartford. At AAMCO Steph did a free check and diagnosed a problem with the solenoid pack. The problem was repaired with new parts and works great (for $1525 including tax). Thanks to AAMCO and no thanks to Talcot Transmissions.

What would have been a simple flat tire fix became complicated because I only have a tire inflation kit VS a "real" spare tire. Now what? The driver said his solution would be to tow us to Town Fair Tire to see if they could fix a side wall tire blow out and sadly Town Fair could not. As I understand it, no one can fix a side wall tire blow out. Town Fair was closing by then but the driver volunteered to stay late at his garage to replace our destroyed tire with a new tire we bought at Town Fair. And he did, balanced it , checked if the tire pressure display was working and we drove off costing less than I imagined! I was impressed how calm and unhurried this driver was so late in the day.

Reading other reviews online, you can easily see that Jack has a reputation of being a really honest, trustworthy mechanic, and based on my experience, it is well deserved. I've brought my car here twice, and have always been treated well. The prices have also been very reasonable. The only thing preventing me from giving them 4 or 5 stars is that it takes a long time for them to fix your car/diagnose problems. They do have bigger shop that they send cars out to for major repairs in Bloomfield, but they have such a small staff that it still takes a long time. They have a large volume of customers due to their good reputation, but you'll need to give them a day or two of advance notice before bringing it in to get looked at, and unless you can get someone to drive you around, you'll need to bring it back for another day or two for the actual repairs. It's not a bad location for waiting around if you have to because it's in Bishop's Corner. You can do grocery shopping, go out to eat, grab a coffee, or even go clothes shopping at Marshall's. :) The other thing preventing 4 or 5 stars is that sometimes they forget to call you to tell you the problem(s) they found, and also whether or not your car will be ready for you at the time you initially specified. I've come twice to get my car, and they had to call the Bloomfield shop to remind them to come drive it back to West Hartford so that I could have my car back. Overall, they do their best with a small workforce, and do good, honest work. To me that is worth the long waits!
