I stayed at the Sun Peaks Grand last year over Christmas and we ended up eating several times at their signature restaurant, Mantles. We found the food overall very average, including the Christmas dinner special menu. So much so, when we booked the hotel this year over Christmas, we made a point to make reservations at other nearby establishments. For unforeseen circumstances, some of our plans didn't go exactly as planned, so Mantles reluctantly was our best option. And, wow, what a surprise 12 months makes! The food was excellent! During our stay, we've had the Roasted Chicken, Oso Bucco, and the very generous Charcuterie Platter. All were magnificently prepared and delicious. Compliments to the kitchen team and chef. Keep up the great work! If you're like us and have been underwhelmed in the past with Mantles, I highly encourage you to give them another try. Well worth it. read more

First night at the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel, so we decided to have dinner at the Mantles Restaurant, within the hotel. Ambience was up-scaly and family friendly at the same time. We got seated at the lounge, which is less formal. We got the short ribs, salmon and a kids pizza. Short ribs were fantastic, melt off the bone tender and delicious, too many accompanying veggies for my taste, but very good. Salmon was also very good. Great server but over an hour for the meal to be served. Whoever is in charge of this kitchen needs to get a grip. The MOST expensive restaurant at the resort and on a not terribly busy night they couldn't handle it. I ordered a $100 bottle of wine and the wine was gone well before the dinner arrived and when it did arrive it was nothing to write home about! read more

The food was really good(Pizza and Lattice yams) but the service was about the worst Ive EVER SEEN. There were 5 people behind the bar. No one even looked at us when we sat down. We had to ask for water, a menu for drinks, a menu for food, plates for the food, cutlery for the food, and the bill, which arrived but I was ignored when I tried to ask for the machine to pay. No one there had any understanding of service, like eye contact, banter, attention. Really poor. Wouldn't go back in spite of the food being great. read more

We had a great experience. Group of 11. Nice table, nice server, food arrived timely. We shared the Roast Chicken entree, and we shared a Ceaser Salad ( amazing ! ). I arrived at the front entrance of the restaurant to be left standing there for quite sometime. The French waitress lady saw me, and continued organizing her menus. She then walked around the restaurant a few times and walked right by me - back to organizing menus. There is no sign that says please seat yourself. I stood there awkwardly while my friend continued to try and get her attention. Being greeted or acknowledged would have been cool. We then waited 15 minutes to have our drink orders taken. Scotch for my friend. Cesar for myself. The staff were very limited on information regarding their scotch options... However the nice gentleman waiter did later tell us he gave a call to another restaurant to see if a certain scotch was what my friend has requested. The food was very good. A bit longer of a wait than expected. The restaurant was not busy. Perhaps short staffed. I could see other people at their tables disgruntled about waiting as well to have their order taken. People spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to stay at one of the nicest resorts in Sun Peaks, it would be nice if the hotel restaurant could step it up a notch with their customer service. This used to be an excellent restaurant, high prices but amazing quality. However due to new employees to top to bottom, the food quality is now poor, and the service is not good, yet they continue to charge the same prices. We ate here for a special occasion and our food took 1.5 hours to arrive. When it did, most of it was cold and it wasn't not to the quality standards that we were expecting; Not much flavor, dry burger bun, cold steak, overall not good. It was more like a 10 dollar meal than a 40 dollar meal. Service was incompetent and rude. This is not the Mantels that it once was. ..I recommend going elsewhere.... read more

If any mentors of the staff who now operate Mantles were to visit the restaurant, their experience would be similar to that of a parent who watches their child mis-spell 'Dog' during a spelling bee. The food is savagely un-inspired and overpriced. I've eaten there twice, once having a re-heated thai dish which came out with the ordered protein. The second time the 'taco salad' which is a code word for a cold greasy fried tortilla beside un-canned corn, black beans. The worst place to have breakfast at Sun Peaks... We stayed at the hotel for three nights, our first breakfast we decided to go to the hotel restaurant, let's just say we had to wait 20 minutes for the waiter to first come, 10 minutes for coffee, 10 more minutes for a spoon and sugar, 32 minutes for our breakfast (which was nothing to brag about, just good enough to eat), 5 more minutes for the cutlery and a napkin, we are still waiting for the coffee cup to be filled again.... Finally we waited for over 10 minutes to get the check, we had to get up and ask for it once again at the door. Ever since we entered the restaurant and got seated it was just like we disappeared and no one was able to see us... Honestly what a poor services one of the worst one I have ever had, wouldn't recommend eating here even if there where no other places to eat read more

I came here with the family with low expectations of the food after reading various reviews, and I concur with the overall rating of the food offered here. Our service was attentive. Only good dishes was the salad, and truffle fries. Pizza was huge but horrible. Butter chicken main was disappointing. Lamb shank was just ok. Prices a bit high for the quality of food. read more

We stayed at the hotel that this restaurant is in, so it was a venue for après ski activities, a late night meal and as two of their justly celebrated breakfasts. The full breakfast buffet is as good as any I have had in Europe or America and worth the CN$26 price tag, especially before a calorie-burning day of skiing. Mixed review here. Had a late lunch with my wife and daughter. The food was 4 stars, we enjoyed a pear salad, potato & blue cheese soup and a kid pizza. All were very good (the kid pizza didn't look all that great but my kiddo liked it). The service was fine, though it was not busy. The inside is upscale and somewhat stuffy. My main complaint is that we went in because they have a huge sign outside advertising their happy hour... but their happy hour stinks. There are no food specials, and the drinks are only slightly discounted ($4.50 instead of $5 for a beer, for instance). If you are going to boldly advertise a happy hour, make it actually happy ok? read more

I strongly recommend you to not waste your time dining here. Here's why: Location: good, the main reason why we came to this restaurant. Only thing good about this place. Service: horrible. Waitress was extremely rude and looked very unhappy to be serving us. Food: really bad. We order two of their burguers and their truffle fries, both horrendous. One of the burguers was extremely dry, and the other was overdone so they compensated that by putting so much sauce that the bread became a paste. Price: $65 total bill for bad food and bad service. We were eating dinner at this restaurant, and i made the mistake of ordering the crab cake. It was not a "crab" cake, it was a FISH cake. Their were pieces of bones in the cake, all mushed up. The cake was overpacked with garlic, it smelled HORRIBLE. My husband ordered Mushroom chowder soup, it was so-so, since it had WAY to much cream. We waited to get our order taken for at least 20 minutes, and when they already brought food, that is when they brought bread. We also waited at least 20 minutes to get our check taken. The worse part is, for this bad food, you pay above 30 dollars. That is WAY overpriced. read more

We are staying in the hotel and decided to eat in the hotel as it seemed a good menu. There were some odd misunderstandings between the staff I guess because we got served by 5 different people. Besides that the food was delicious but a bit pricy. The ratio portion price just isn't correct. Afterwards we ordered cheesecake but they were all out of it. I guess it had something to do with the Labor-day weekend. I would certainly recommend the food when you're not watching the price closely. read more

Worst service in all of Sun Peaks, and that's pretty bad because most of Sun Peaks Restaurants are horrible for service. My family and I were pretty much ignored the whole time we were there for breakfast. The buffet is worse than what you get for free at a Holiday Inn Express but it costs $24.00. My wife had to go find a coffee pot and pour our own coffee. As we were getting ready to leave I heard the table in front of ours complain that they got a meat breakfast bowl when they ordered a vegetarian one. The waiter looked over at the computer where orders are rang in and found the vegetarian one. (It had been sitting there for at least 10min.) he brought it over to them and said "here's the veggie bowl" he then took the fork out of the meat bowl, asked the customer if they wanted to reuse the same fork (the one that was in the meat) and when he did that he dropped some food from that fork on another customers plate at the table and laughed about it. Hands down, the worst dining experience I've had. (And I travel for a living) Two weekends in a row up at Sun Peaks and I'm still searching for a place that has something even close to resembling decent service. The laid back resort attitude coupled with the temporary foreign workers is very apparent in Sun Peaks. (And I have to be honest, I'm seriously the least picky person there is.) read more

Based on other reviews, I guess it is a hit-or-miss place. In my case, few hits with no misses. In my opinion, this is the only place in Sun Peaks which can properly be called a "restaurant". Everywhere else I felt myself in a diner (this is not a put-down, I like diners). As in any restaurant, service is not very fast, so if all you need is a quick bite before hitting the slopes in order to enjoy the powder, either use a buffet option or look elsewhere. If, however, it is the end of season, and your muscles insist on skipping the torture of yet another morning ice, then go to Mantles, order à la carte, sit by the large window and watch the sun softening the slopes to a more negotiable condition while sipping coffee and eating your eggs Benedict. Overall: over few visits at different times of the day, food was consistently good, service was friendly, views were gorgeous. This being the end of the season, there was no waiting time. By far the worst service ever!!!! Stood at the front waiting to be seated, the girl basically ignored us for five minutes. We stood there not sure if we should seat ourselves or what!!!? Clearly no team work going on here. After we sat, 15 minutes until they asked what we wanted to drink. We didn't get our drinks until 1 minute before our food. Server was good. She was quick with our drink orders. We ate a little after the lunch rush but for some reason our meal took about 45 minutes to come out (we had wings, a club sandwich, and poutine). The food was less than par with other places we have hit in the area. The chicken in the club sandwich was among the driest I've ever had and the poutine was served some what cold. The waitress acknowledged the slow service and took a couple of drinks off the bill which was very nice. That said, I wouldn't go back. Paying as much as you do for lift tickets and food, the last thing you need is slow food service and poor quality food. read more

Arrived in sun peaks as hungry as a dog after a long, weary and rain soaked day. Decided to eat in mantle's because it was one of few places open that actually had some people in it. Got a seat at the fire (perfect to dry off) and enjoyed good food, good drinks, and really good service! My partner had the chicken curry...the server said its been on the menu for 9 years and if it ain't broke don't fix it ...he was right! Succulent chicken, flavourful sauce and perfect accompaniments (basmati rice, mango chutney, raita and naan). What chicken curry is supposed to be (when eaten in non authentic establishments). I had the turkey club with minestrone - it was delicious. Every layer of sandwich filling was tasty and considered and the bread was very fresh and delicious.
