I was treated by Keaton Ray on both occasions. I'm a huge fan of Keaton and Advance, and I have referred a family member to her as well as other members of my strength training classes. She is very knowledgeable and extremely positive and enthusiastic about helping solve your problem. An absolute pleasure to work with. The approach at Advanced is very holistic and is geared toward helping you to understand the root cause of your problem, and empowering you with a sustainable plan of action to fix it and prevent it from happening again. It has been months since my last appointment with Keaton and I still do the mobility and strength exercises that she taught me and I always will. What I also like is that the clinic is very fitness training oriented. I think it is great for those who have sports or training related injuries, and also for those who are interested in addressing a specific problem and then segueing into a fitness/training plan afterwards. I had persistent low back pain after being rear-ended by a careless driver while stopped in…read morebumper-to-bumper city traffic. After seeing another physical therapist frequently for a solid six months with little improvement, that practitioner basically gave up on me and suggested I see either a physiatrist or a go to a pain clinic. That's when a colleague recommended I see Lee O'Connor at Synergy Spine Therapy. Thank goodness she mentioned him. What I like about Lee is that he is a scientist at heart. He practices a philosophy called the McKenzie Method. Essentially, each visit he put me through a torture scheme (he called it an "algorithm," but I know better). He systematically tested what made me improve and what made me worse at every appointment, using the same assessment each time. While I sometimes left my twice-weekly visits with him "flared up," overall, I made immediate, positive progress, after being stalled for six months. As I told Lee, "It's a good thing I trust you so much, because otherwise I wouldn't allow you to torment me like this." As part of gathering background information, Lee guessed, "I'll bet your last PT gave you about 30 exercises over the course of your work with them, right?" True! He remarked that this occurs frequently when PTs have a patient that confounds them - they throw many exercises at them to see if, by chance, one of them works. He also inquired whether my other PT had me work on strengthening exercises, and again the answer was yes. He said this was another common "go to" for PTs who were out of ideas. He definitely thinks there is a place for strengthening, but that typically is most effective AFTER the main complaint has improved or resolved. I love the fact that Lee gave me one or, at most, two exercises to do at home. Bonus: he hand draws the exercise instructions for you with adorable, smiling stick figures. Lee has a great sense of humor and is entertaining to chat with as an extra plus. I would recommend him even if he were the crankiest, grumpiest PT in the world, though, because he is a master of his profession. He zeroed in on what my issue was in two visits and I then started improving rapidly. He predicted that the characteristics of my back problem would change somewhat after we starting addressing the problem correctly, and - right on schedule - this occurred as he foresaw. He mentioned that flare ups and setbacks are a part of the journey. When that happened to me because I overdid yard work one weekend, he helped me quickly get back to my new, less painful baseline. Lee's whole goal is to teach you how to correct course yourself when you have issues arise so that you can stop seeing him. He actually wants his patients to graduate and not come back. Boy, is that unusual and refreshing in a PT! Lee taught me what he calls "rescue exercises" for when I have a flare up. I still have some back issues but - thanks to Lee - I have the tools to make them better more quickly. If you have what seems like incurable back problems, do yourself a favor and make an appointment with Lee. If everyone else has given up on your back getting better and/or you yourself have given up, take heart and have hope. I believe that if anyone can help you, Lee can. I've never written a review for any provider, but I felt moved to pen this one because I know it has the potential to help people who are in a dark, hopeless place find their best chance at getting better by seeing Lee.

Recommended surgeons that wanted to cut me open to fix my back every time. Moved to Oregon in 2018 and was in a gym. Threw out my back in the gym and he came over to help randomly. All I saw was this super fit dude that was like all the fit gym people that think they know everything. I was wrong. He diagnosed me immediately, in the gym and I knew he was different. I had a knee replacement over a year ago and experienced previously poor results in obtaining both…read morea desirable range of motion (ROM) and regaining lost strength in the knee. Previous PT at another provider was insufficient to resolve these problems and I felt like the PT provider tried to persuade me to live with these extreme limitations. PT has been progressing well at Westside PT and I'm particularly pleased with the results that I've seen from their Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer. In an extremely well controlled and measurable structure, I have slowly begun to increase both my strength and ROM, both of which I have been unpleased with from my previous progress. I especially like that I have agency to control how much I push myself instead of relying on the PT provider to arbitrary set those limits. You may want to consider this as an option for knee replacement patients especially if you are experiencing an insufficient return of ROM and strength. It is also highly recommended, by myself, for those that appreciate seeing a well organized, measurable structure to PT. It is still early days and I intend to continue PT for many more weeks but the progress has been both measurable and transformative. I refuse to believe that I must live with the inadequate results of my previous PT failure and this place is helping me to achieve what I know is possible.

The excellent surgeon, Dr. Brett Dales, of Advantage Orthopedics, said after my one-month follow-up, that I was 2 weeks ahead of most patients at that point in recovery. I owe that to Dr. Miranda's care and guidance with the specific exercises and one-on-one sessions that were needed. He also advised me about things to get to make the swelling and pain manageable.
