This is a great place!! Only here for 2 days, but owners are on site and very friendly! I read reviews of getting in here being an issue, but that is not the case. A one way road can have you getting where you need to be without any problems. Clean areas, pet friendly (we did not bring any), well maintained, and privacy spots. 2 washers and dryers, books and puzzles to borrow, bath and shower if you need it, and minutes from historic downtown ands shopping. Did I mention the Saturday night BBQ? Smoked brisket, chicken, and sides!!! Not what we planned, but was pleasantly surprised. Met some great people, and plan on returning before we even leave. Definitely coming back for rib night.

This is a great park with fantastic owners. Good size shaded sites. We have been twice and will be returning for an extended stay.

Waiting is a minor annoyance but if the place had been half full, my gosh! They have three shower stalls, but one closed/out of order, and another with sad trickle of hot water, so essentially one working shower. Again, I was OK with some waiting, but if the place had been half full, I would've never gotten a shower! Note that shower stalls are small enough that taller men will be unable to bend over to wash feet. Note also that all three stalls drain to a single drain, so if or when more than one shower is functional, you may have your neighbor's soapy waste water running under your feet. Feels very unhealthy! I would Have opted for a dip in the swimming pool when the bathroom was occupied and funky, but the pool was closed "indefinitely" (and someone said it has been for quite awhile. KOA might be fine for some folk with self contained mobile home RVs (the primary clientele here) because they don't have to wait for the shower, and have more sound insulation. The noise of generators combined with highway noise makes this a poor choice for tent travelers like me. After a couple of days, I moved to a Motel 6 down the street. For an extra +$11, it was quieter, with AC, a clean bed, and the shower was Taj Mahal by comparison!

Probably the worst KOA we have ever visited. The grounds were basically gravel and stickers and…read morenot well maintained. Basic rules were not enforced. 10pm to 7am quiet time was violated and not enforced nearly every night we were there. From late night arrivals that left their bright lights on all night to the late night arrival that had kids up and loud until after midnight and then the adults stayed awake talking and laughing until well pas 1:00 am. Did not get much sleep those two nights. The icing on the cake was our neighbors Pit Bull. It was tied to one of the patio chairs. When I walked my mini golden doodle past the site, it charged, pulling the chair across about 20 feet of gravel street going straight for my dog. I got between the two and the Pit Bull simply mowed me down(I am 80 years old) and was headed to my dog's throat. Kept the Pit Bull away from my dog but in that effort, my hand was bitten. Finally, my wife got our dog in the trailer and I was left on the ground holding onto the Pit Bull with a bleeding hand. Finally two men from other sites responded to our yell's for help and came down and took control of the Pit and helped me up. Owners were absent, one sleeping and one in the bathroom but finally showed up. Called 911 and sheriff and paramedics showed up. Filed the appropriate reports. When asked for rabies documentation, it was not to be had though they said it was available. Left the next day and finally found out that there would be no rabies vaccine documentation forthcoming. I was back home by then and was directed by my doctor to immediately go to an emergency room and begin the rabies 9 shot two week shot protocol The KOA people, while seemingly nice people, said they had no control over what dogs people brought. All other KOA campsites we visited had dog restrictions, no pit bulls, Dobermans and rottweilers, not this place one. There was no enforcement of the quiet times or limited categories for animals. The did not want to take any accountability or responsibility for what happened other than to say, "I am so sorry". Not sure we will continue to go to KOA campsites. Will certainly make sure they have limitations and enforcement.

You can leave your things out and no one touches it, even leave stuff in the back of your truck! Everyone follows RV park etiquette here because the rules are strictly enforced. And people watch out for each other and report any kind of rule breaking. Like when we did our first RV trip we didn't know you weren't supposed to drive through the site to check it first. And someone reported us. But they didn't throw us out on the spot because we didn't know, it was our first time in a RV. They gave us a break! Very kind people but we follow the rules so we won't get kicked out for sure because it's such a nice place! It's clean, there are walking trails clearly marked. There is a dog area. There are showers and laundry. What else do you need? Oh yes! A small store in the office! They have ice! So go there if you are looking for a place to stay in Elephant Butte and need access to surrounding areas!

Some positives - You are allowed to bring a wood fire ring, the convenience store, the bathrooms with showers are impeccable, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The rates are very reasonable and we love to stay in the premium back in sites that include a shaded patio next to your rig. The park is completely gravel and it gets a bit dusty. If you are looking for a nice place while you visit the lake and TorC, then I highly recommend!
