I've been pet-sitting/fostering a dog these past two months. When she came to me, it was about a month after getting hit by a car. She didn't have any outward signs of issues, other than some scratches/scabs, but as she and I went on our daily walks, she developed a hematoma on the shoulder on the side where she was hit. Thankfully, she was already a patient at Maple Small Animal Clinic, and they were able to squeeze us in when I got off of work the next day. Dr. Schmidt examined her and noticed how that shoulder wasn't quite feeling the same as the other. While the dog didn't show any signs of slowing or pain, there was obviously something up. They took x-rays and, thankfully, nothing was broken or showing anything major, so she sent us home to a week of bed rest, icing, and relaxing to help it start to heal. We called back after a week, with minimal change, but Dr. Schmidt reassured me and we continued on with our plan. She told me it may take 6-8 weeks to really go away, so loaded with that timeline, I was able to relax a bit more about the lump on the pup's shoulder. Sure enough, after 3 weeks it was less than half the size, and practically gone within the month. I'm so glad the staff at Maple were so helpful and understanding, especially since she's not my dog, but she is their patient, they were really able to help me stay calm and get her the treatment she needed. read more

My family has been going to Maple Small Animal Clinic since before I was born. Dr. Eugene Zeller was an amazing man and a staple in our community. When I was 8 and wanted to be a vet, he would teach me what he was doing and why, and even tasked me with collecting a stool sample so I could see if I wanted to be a vet! LOL I think I changed my mind after that one, but it was still so kind he included me to help me learn! :) He was there for every single one of our pets, and was kind and compassionate and you can tell he loved every single animal that came in his office, and his daughter, Dr. Emily Zeller, has continued his beautiful and wonderful legacy! It's an affordable vet clinic with great hours, ease of access to get in touch with, and they truly care about your furry family members! My only complaint is parking is rough (no one knows how to drive in the angled lot, but it's Maple St and already terrible parking, so it's beyond their control and shouldn't be held against them... I cannot tell you enough how much I love these people! They are ALWAYS kind and ALWAYS professional. They LOVE animals and it shows. It's not just a job for them, it's a passion. I love this vet clinic. Amusingly, the vets, techs and receptionists remember my pets names more often than my name! But that's the way I like it. To me, that means that our pets are at the forefront of their minds. As for the allegations that they charge too much, or that certain vets here charge too much, I've never had that problem. If I'm having a cash-flow issue, they will work with me on payments and only administer vaccines or other medication if it's absolutely necessary. I honestly believe that everything they do or recommend is only for your pet's benefit. Whether you follow their recommendations is up to you, but I've found when I ignored their advice (like brushing my dog's teeth regularly) it has ended up being an expensive problem to fix (getting his teeth professionally cleaned almost broke the bank.) I cannot recommend this vet clinic more highly. Everyone who works there (save one or two grumpy techs) is very kind and caring and they love your pets almost as much as you do! read more

I cannot say enough good things about the care my dog received for the last 3 years of his life at this clinic. The staff was always kind and professional and always accommodated my work schedule. Primarily my dog was treated by Dr Sharon Schmidt and her care was excellent. During his last weeks of life, he was also treated by Dr Mandy Walkenhorst and finally euthanized by Dr Emily Zeller Lehman.They never gave up on him and did everything humanly possible to provide for his comfort and mine. The decision to euthanize was difficult and I appreciate the kind and thoughtful words spoken by Dr Zeller Lemann. I highly recommend this veterinary practice. read more

I like these vets with one major qualification. You should DEFINITELY avoid one of the three vets... Emily Lemann will load you up with services you don't need so that she can charge you a hefty bill. The other two vets, Drs. Hill and Zeller are very fair. All of them are quite competent and personally nice. But after a couple of trips when Emily charged me for several unnecessary shots (which she gave the dog w/o asking me), and charging for the high end heart worm medication w/o asking what I needed - I realized my bill was a good 50% higher than with the other two vets. Problem solved though - they'll let you pick your vet when you make an appointment. I like Dr. Zeller best. read more

I love this vet. Even after I moved up to Lakeview, I still take the time out of my day to drive into the uptown/riverbend muck to take my kitties to see Dr. Emily. I do agree with Chris L. that I have sometimes felt stuck with charges that I didn't necessarily ask for (my kitten has a microchip now after her recent spay - when I had specified that I would let them know my decision upon admission and did not do so), but they have a generous return policy. Also, when you let Dr. Emily know that finances are a concern, she is very up front about charges. The service is fast and friendly, and the staff are personable and interested in your animals. They remember details from visit to visit, something I think is rather unusual for such a busy place. They don't board pets, but will accommodate their regular customers by referring dependable pet sitters. The vets make themselves available after hours and on weekends, and will call you to check up on your animal anytime they have been ill or have recently undergone a procedure. read more

They're amazing! I love them. My dog doesn't have a lot of problems, so I only go in once a year. Even so, an employee stopped me when I was out and remembered me and my dog's name! They're GREAT with animals of all kinds. I had my dog's teeth cleaned, and they took before and after x-rays, which is something all vets should do but something vets don't always actually do. They did it here, which is a sign of quality. They also wrapped up her extracted teeth in a little gift bag for me, which I found to be gruesome, but it does show their thoughtfulness for pet owners. I moved out of this neighborhood and still go out of my way to go here. They do great work and I highly recommend them. Bring your babies here! read more

I had just adopted a dog from Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter and they wouldn't charge me for our first visit! They have a great online system where they can send you your pets records, and you can even order their heartworm and flea medication online through the vet. It's super convenient. Daisy and I had a great experience here. Sure, it's not the shiniest and fanciest vet around, but you can tell that every person you come into contact with is an animal nut just like you. We got $10 off our initial visit by having our new client form ready. We got there about 8-10 minutes early and were taken into the exam room right on time. The people who I interacted with at the desk were sweet and informative and fawned over my lil pup. Once in the exam room, the vet tech took the time to make sure my shy dog was comfortable and warmed up to her. After some preliminary questions, the doctor arrived shortly. Again, she was calm and let my dog warm up to her before starting the exam process. She was great at answering all of my billion annoying questions, I think she could sense that I'm a helicopter dog mom, hah! Her answers were thorough and honest, and I never felt pressured into any decision or product. Although my dog was very nervous, they were very gentle and loving with her. Best of all, I felt the opposite of rushed. The doctor really took the time to hear my concerns and discuss with me my options. We had been previously been going to a big box, corporate vet and never again! The care that this practice shows is worth going across town for. I also found the prices to be very reasonable: after my $10 off, my annual exam (no shots) and an ointment that she needed came out to about $63. An annual round of shots (incl 3 year rabies shot) with an annual exam is $179. We also got a dental consultation and the vet was kind enough to remember to print out a price and information sheet for that. While getting a professional teeth cleaning is pricey (~$300+ for a small dog without xrays), the vet was honest in telling me about how often it would be needed as long as I took care of her teeth in the meantime. All three of our dogs have been going to Dr. Emily the entire time we've lived here - we have a miniature dachshund who's sixteen now who receives the best care from these folks, along with a pit rescue (middle-aged now) and a Weimeraner (just turned three). This clinic has been wonderful to my dog and I. I am fairly new to the area and of course had not found a vet yet when my dog decided to get very sick very quickly at 4:45 pm. I called Maple Small Animal Clinic panicking and they offered to stay open a little later to see my dog. During the course of the treatment Dr. Hill and Dr. Lemann were wonderful at keeping me informed with everything and getting my dog back on his feet fast. The vet techs and front office staff have also been fantastic. They remember who you are when you come in and make sure that all your questions are answered. We've been taking our four critters (3 canine, 1 ancient feline) to Maple Small Animal since moving to NOLA 3 years ago, and I can only wish that my health care was like this. We've never had to wait more than a week for an appointment, and that was because Dr. Hill was away on his honeymoon. Usually it's same or next day. A few times the spouse has had "do we need to bring him in?" questions, and he was able to speak with the doctor and not the doctor's nurse's assistant's receptionist. During the appointments, Dr. Hill talks with you as long as necessary and answers all your questions as well as asking relevant ones to get to the bottom of an issue. If a specialist referral is necessary, you get all the information you'll need going in. Once we picked up some medication after the computers had been turned off for the day, and we were allowed to take the meds and just pay the next day. read more

I've been taking my older cat to maple small animal clinic for about a year now, and they are wonderful! I can usually get an appointment within a few days, and I'm never left waiting too long in reception. What really sealed their 5 star status for me, however, was how unbelievably kind and compassionate they were with me during my second kitten's illness. Just moved back home from Chicago and hadn't selected a vet for my cat yet. Then we had an urgent situation and I needed to find one fast. I called Maple Small Animal Clinic and they were so nice and squeezed us in right away. My cat gets car sick and always throws up on the way. They took her right back and cleaned her and her carrying case right away. I've had bad vet experiences before where it seemed like a factory and no one actually cared about the animals. But these people were so nice and treated my cat as if she were their own. We saw Dr. Emily and was really impressed with the level of care, both at the office and follow up phone calls. Maple Small Animal Clinic really is as good as it gets! Having lived in a few states, our cats have had to change vets more than once. The staff at Maple Small Animal Clinic are WONDERFUL. When we had our initial visit (a routine check-up) with Dr. Zeller, my husband and I were so impressed with the time that Dr. Zeller spent getting to know us! Knowing that we still had two more cats to be seen, Dr. Zeller was considerate about treatment planning, and suggested that we see what the other kitties might need before scheduling a costly procedure for Cali. This was a very different approach than what we were used to with other vets, who typically recommended several expensive tests and treatments without consideration of the financial burden. But most importantly, Dr. Zeller and his staff are incredibly compassionate and generous. A few months after that initial visit, Cali became very ill. Dr. Zeller called us weekly to check-in on her progress and never made us feel rushed (no matter how many questions we had). He was willing to have the most difficult (and honest) discussions about end-of-life care and this has made all the difference for us. I'm not one for gushing reviews, but I really can't say enough about how lucky we feel to have found the amazing people over there. read more

This is hands-down the best vet available in the New Orleans area/ The staff is friendly and attentive, and I feel like a valued customer every time I go there. There is nothing I hate more than going to any medical office and practically hearing the Doctor's foot tapping as he is ready to move to the next patient - not a problem with this clinic. My first visit there with my new puppy, my vet (Dr. Zeller) took plenty of time to go over ever detail and answer every obnoxious question that I had. I called him with a question, and although he was in an appointment, took the time to call me back and give my a thorough and informed answer to my question. The prices are very reasonable, and they seem to value truely the dog's health over giving an animal unneccesary vaccinnes and meds. I don't think I will ever find another vet of this quality! I couldn't imagine taking my pets anywhere else. Drs. Zeller, Hill and Lemann have been taking care of my crew for more than 15 years. Whether it has been just regular annual visits or the more difficult end of life decisions, they have all been fabulous. We usually see either Dr. Hill or Dr. Emily depending on schedules and availability. (I like that my pets get to know and feel comfortable with both drs.) Great service at Maple Small Animal Clinic. The staff in the front were extremely nice from the phone call making the appointment to when I walked inside with my dog. I was also able to get a copy of my dogs records emailed to me for my review after asking if I could get them. My last veterinarian would not email me a copy of my dogs records or answer concerned questions openly without me struggling for answers. I have senior dogs with a few problems and I wanted to review my dogs medical diagnosis for myself. Dr. Hill is awesome at Maple Small Animal Clinic. He gives you real straight answers to your questions and concerns and also give you tips on what to do or give your dog. He takes his time and is very gentle with your dogs to where the dogs are not so scared. Dr. Hill is very nice and sincere. The vet techs are also very nice when helping the veterinarian and the dogs. If you ever need a 2nd opinion or a new vet go to Maple Small Animal Clinic. read more
