Thunder Lake Lodge - Such a fantastic getaway for my family!

One of our best family vacations so far! (Last week of July) The resort is beautiful with a small…read moretown feel. We booked our vacation in March and was looking forward to being on the lake once the dreaded Arizona summer hit. We booked cabin #3 which had two bedrooms and one bath with a wonderful view of the lake, a nice sized deck, and a fire pit. All the kitchen appliances were available including a dishwasher! The basic cookware and dishes were also included. It was the perfect size for our family of five. It was so clean and tidy upon check in and it even smelled nice and not musty (been to other cabins that had this problem). We unpacked our things and had enough space for everything, groceries included. The amenities on the lake were so fantastic! The kids enjoyed the playground which included swings, seesaw, slides, and a sandbox. They even had swings right on the sand so you could jump off into the water. We also took advantage of the peddle boats, canoe, paddle boards, and key log. They were all included with our reservations and didn't have to pay extra. But be sure to bring quarters for the arcade room. You're gonna need it! Oh and if you plan on doing laundry they do have washers and dryers that take quarters. My babies (ages 9, 6, & 2) participated in the kids fishing contest and they were so thrilled. Although I think they loved playing with the worms more than the fish. On Wednesday they held a ceremony and they each received an award for their catch of the day with my little one getting the "smallest fish caught" award which he held up proudly. There are also towns close by to grab a bite to eat which we did twice during the week. My hubby even got to play golf since there was a course nearby. The owners were wonderful and very down to earth. They greeted us at check in and made us feel welcomed. I would always see them chatting up with other visitors as if they were life long friends. Many of the visitors are return customers and make yearly trips to the lake. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and created cherished family memories. We absolutely loved our stay here at Thunder Lake Lodge! We will be back! Thank you Craig & Jaime!

Our experience at AmericInn at Pequot Lakes definitely exceeded our expectations!…read more My husband had mediocre to poor experiences at other AmericInn locations, but there were really no other choices if we wanted to stay in the Pequot Lakes area. I expected a dumpy outdated hotel with bare minimum comfort. I was hoping only for a clean room, not much more. When we arrived, we walked into a beautiful rustic lobby. Peaceful music was playing and a fire was dancing in the gas hearth fireplace. The feel of a cabin in the woods, yet clean, spacious, and very pleasant. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was VERY clean, including the corners in the bathroom and other often-overlooked places. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice-sized. One nice perk....our room window had screens and we could open the window to enjoy the fresh, cool breeze. Even though the hotel was full of guests and we know there were children (we saw them passing in the hallway) the hotel was extremely quiet. No sound of slamming doors, running, voices....nothing. We stayed 2 nights and it was quiet both nights. The breakfast was above the quality we usually experience at hotels. Everything was fresh and hot. Seemed that the quality/taste of the food was better than usual too. Eggs appeared to be "real" eggs, not powdered. There was a nice selection of breads, including gluten free and the local favorite....wild rice cranberry. Everything was clean and well-stocked. There were some healthier choices for those who are calorie conscious. The coffee was a lot better than most hotel coffees. The breakfast room was spacious and had a little table for children. There were some children using that table when we were there, and they were thrilled to have their own little place to sit. There was a nice sized grassy area adjacent to the hotel, which also had a playground. This is a nice bonus for guests with children. We did not use the pool, but it looked to be nice-sized and well-maintained. There was also a pool table. My husband used the exercise room, and he said that the machines were in good shape and not broken like most hotel machines are. There was a gas BBQ grill and a fire pit available in the area just outside the breakfast room. We hoped to use those, and enjoy an evening by the fire, but the wind kicked up, and changed our plans. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area!

We really liked this place and would not hesitate to book here again…read more Pros: Nice quiet location with a super-friendly and helpful staff. Breakfasts were good and the place was really quiet at night. It also has a really nice, good-sized indoor pool. It's located just on the outskirts of the town so there's plenty of shopping and lake access in a very short walking/driving distance. Best of all, loons in the lake! Cons: The rooms, or at least the one we had, are a bit dated. Everything certainly looked clean, but definitely a bit worn down. One special note, for those getting the 'economy' room (307?); the bathroom needs some rework. The shower could fit 4 people easily, but the toilet is unbelievably low and is jammed into a corner, making the 'sit down' experience a bit of an adventure. I'm 5' 8" and 225 lbs., and it was definitely an 'issue.' If you're bigger than me, avoid this room until they redo the bathroom. Definitely not enough to take a star off, but something you and they should be aware of.

The hotel looks nice on the outside and the accommodations seemed clean and orderly. But, there was no ice in the ice maker and no hot water when we went to take a shower. Breakfast consisted of a paper bag filled with 3 sausages and a sandwich made of a muffin egg sausage and cheese that we microwaved in the Room. It was pretty tasty. All in all, I just couldn't bring myself to give this place even 3 stars. I also had to pay an extra $10 pet deposit bringing up the total amount I spent to $107 Which I feel was too much for a hotel that doesn't really supplied the things that are necessary. Won't be staying here again thank goodness.
