The park itself is large with and as such spreads out in many directions so it's surrounded by residential houses, has one of Maplewood's library's within and on the other side is Springfield Ave. - Maplewood's main street, or one of them. Many events take place here including the above mentioned concerts, neighborhood association gatherings and is busy with park goers. Other efforts are put into the park as I recall hearing of a bike repair station as well as a skate park, which I did not see, but the fact that they're looking to use the park for things like this make it and the town the much nicer.

I am also so happy that Wheeler park welcomes everyone from all over NJ (and elsewhere). Coming from out of the county will cost you a bit more, but not much. If you live outside of Union County it is $4.00 for kids ($2.00 in county) and $6.00 for adults ($3.00 in county). This splash pad has every water feature a kid could ever need - from bigger twisty water slides, to a small dragon water slide. Also, water guns that you can shoot each other with, a pirate boat, water shooting up from the ground, and much more. My kids spent a little over 2 hours here and had an absolute blast. We've been here about 3 times and it never disappoints. Just be sure to bring some sort of shade covering. There isn't much cover at the splash pad so we usually bring our small beach tent with us. There is also a dry playground in the splash pad gated area where kids can play too. They have staff who help keep the kids safe and to make sure everyone goes down the water slides safe and sound. I highly recommend Wheeler Spray Park on a hot summer day.

A small picnic grove separates both ends of this long and narrow park, and contains a small assortment of playground gear. Parking on Rahway Ave. can be tough, but is a breeze on the Garden St. side. Also a nice park to stroll, as there is often something of interest going on.

Kids were cool, the mini is too small, the bowl mini is too long but far better for learning on, there is a nice mini section in the bowl but it's separated from a 6'ish side by a double pipe spine so it's advanced. there is a verty 1/4 that is almost impossible to build enough speed to ascend, the street plaza is sparse but there and has plenty to learn on. The street box is too low. Over all it is a nice spot to spend some time, there is little to no shade until at least 4pm in the summer, the area looks like you don't want to leave valuables in your car but didn't feel overtly dangerous day or night.

As of today the bowl is still under construction. Yes, there are scooter kids and a lot of bikes at times but you have to share the space. Definitely one of the better skate parks in the city.

Hemlock Falls seems to be a draw and is very nice to relax around but can get a little crowded. Because there are multiple parking lots with easy accessibility, there's a bit of trash and broken glass here and there which is unfortunate. There were quite a few hikers, trail runners and dogs but it never felt claustrophobic. The hikes aren't that difficult but there are quite a few rocks and protruding tree roots. Montclair is less than 10 minutes if you want a bite to eat afterwards.

I have been digging this park since it opened; there's so much to do here:…read more - Play ground with big kids and small kids sections - Dope sprinkler park - 2 tennis courts - 4 basketball courts - Baseball field - Bike and jogging path - Football/soccer turf field (with bleachers too!) - Dog run (with water fountain) - Fitness Circuit (9 stations) On most weekends there is usually an ice cream truck or two parked near the playground, but I have yet to see any other vendors. Throughout the park there are a couple different areas for bike parking and car parking is currently pretty easy on Garfield Ave, I hope that doesn't change! There are other parts of the park that are not open yet which I think will be the skate park and a lawn. There are benches throughout the park and picnic tables at the south end by the dog run. Jersey city has Liberty State Park and Lincoln park, which are good for jogging, biking, or chilling out on a blanket. Berry Lane Park is more activity orientated, kind of like a modernized Pershing Field. Berry park is a great addition to the neighborhood and Jersey City overall.
