The park is dope, big enough for everyone to get in the work that they'd like to do. And the comradery is at an all time high here.

A reservoir path across the street that offers a dirt path around the reservoir surrounded by trees and wildlife There's a lot to enjoy in this park, lots of space for recreational activities. The reservoir path does get crowded during peak hours and some people don't really follow the "rules" posted (no fishing in reservoir or biking on path) but it's wonderful nonetheless.

Since my dear friend moved to Jersey City last year along with a furry family member we shared during the pandemic lockdown in 2020, she found Pershing Field Park as the new place in her neighborhood to take Rasputin, a Scottish Terrier, on one of his adventurous walks. Named for General John J. Pershing, nicknamed "Black Jack", who served most famously as the commander of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) on the Western Front during World War I. We have since playfully nicknamed this place, "Squirrel Park", for the abundance of these fuzzy-tailed rodents he would maniacally pull and tug on his leash as he excitedly chased after them https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=mR1fKuAnp0j3MhZPKgChdQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. It also seemed to be very dog-friendly although I couldn't recall seeing any posted signs to acknowledge this. Obviously, the little black beast loved this place, but what about us humans!? PURCHASE Sorry, there was nothing to buy here. I didn't even see any street vendors unlike the abundance I would see back in L.A. SERVICE Of the several times I've visited the park, I've never seen any staff members or workers cleaning or tending to the various facilities (e.g. bathrooms, fields, general grounds, pool, trashcans, etc.). Thankfully, everything appeared to be well-kept generally speaking, except for the bathrooms which were always an issue at any public park wherever you went. PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance) A simple 10-minute one-way walk from my friend's place. Otherwise, there was a small onsite lot, and there seemed to be sufficient street parking along the main drag of Central Ave. and all surrounding roads - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A spacious city square corner and park located in The Heights, this had most if not all or more of what you'd expect from such a place. From open spaces, grassy field, oval running track, baseball field, basketball court, tennis courts https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=g2BS61DWG-FtY0oWI2GLBw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, plenty of walking pathways https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=TFhigo921QNxiSSTS7s80Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, and even a recreation center along with a pool and ice rink, plus, a children playground - whew! In addition, there was a nice Vietnam Veterans Memorial community Center https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=_d3XRPltFQJVfhZK8ZyRaw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw with many commemorations memorials to fallen service individuals since World War I marked by a lovely archway https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=tuOxZ5MdJunS8pYsa2qevA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. And, there was this fun little literary post https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=CHUqdmAeJsnpwoRQGWXgyA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Furthermore, there were plenty of trees and squirrels https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=3Wb1IsMqXDRTn8HJi5pZ-w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! Obviously, there was plenty of natural lighting (duh!) while electric lights illuminated the playing fields. There weren't any TVs while the confluence of exercising people, playing children, random chatter, vehicular traffic, and more, filled the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops... if it weren't so freakin' cold. OVERALL I found Pershing Field Park very pleasing, relaxing, and such a joy for our fuzzy alligator, and would continue to visit it for years to come. It was in a safe area, and I would like to see how it was during the warmer months (I imagined more robust activities) versus the colder winter months when I visited. And darn it... Rasputin loved chasing the squirrels! I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, because there was nothing to buy, they didn't accept any form of payment that included my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

What better place to go than Liberty State Park. I have been here a few times in the past when I lived in the area. I actually played in a college baseball game back in the late 80's when they had a field here. Well, the field is long gone and the park is run by the US Park Service. It's a well maintained facility and provides great views of Lower Manhattan, Jersey City, Downtown Brooklyn, Ellis Island, Lady Liberty and the lower Hudson Bay. Fun fact, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are in New Jersey geographically. I was here for a little over an hour before it got hot. I walked about 2.5 miles from the parking lot to the shore line and south to the end. It was nice break. And by the way, parking is free and there are bathrooms on site.

We parked at one lot and then drove over to another lot to be able to see Lady Liberty. Loved that there were plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view and sounds. There was a strong police presence (while not excessive) so it just felt safer. Side note: I really wish you could walk or ride over to visit Ellis Island from the park since there's a narrow bridge that crosses over, but it's not possible.

This vibrant, walkable small city is a unique delight, now more commonly known for its vibrant cultural scene and stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. Its charming brownstones and contemporary condos with modern amenities attract professionals, families, and anyone seeking a more laid-back lifestyle. Follow the Hudson River along River Street and explore the beautiful parks and outdoor recreational activities along the way, many of which are free to enjoy. The Hoboken Waterfront Walkway offers joggers, cyclists, and even those who are just in the mood for a gentle stroll the perfect setting. Pier A Park, located on Sinatra Drive, was converted from a disused pier to admire the fantastic panoramic views out to Manhattan and take selfies against the iconic New York City skyline. On a clear day, the views extend all the way from the Verrazano Bridge to the south to the George Washington Bridge to the north. One can spot lots of ferries, sailboats, and even water skis traveling between New Jersey and Manhattan. We can recommend this place.

I had no real purpose in my life other than writing these silly reviews in the morning before work. I don't even know why I love it so much, but I do. It's my little creative outlet. This passion for writing slowly trickled to a passion for making videos. So, at the beginning of this year, I made an agreement with myself that I would shoot, edit, and post between 150-200 videos no matter what. I don't care what thoughts were inevitably going to creep in to try and talk me out of it, I'm doing this. Kobe Bryant, my childhood hero, put it best when he said "I'm not negotiating with myself. The deal has already been made. I signed that contract with myself. I'm doing it." All this to say, I've been on an absolute SPRINT this year. I'm exhausted and drained, but it's been worth it. I started the year with 5,101 followers, and today (Aug 6th) I have 75.5k. I hate judging things off of follower counts, but it is the best metric to depict what success looks like doing this. This past Sunday I was damn near bed ridden sick, but I heard Kobe's voice in my head so I dragged myself out of bed to Hoboken to go do another video. I got off the Path train and started walking, when I turned my head to the right and saw one of the most beautiful views I've seen this year at Pier A Park. A huge grassy plain, with a full view of the New York City Skyline from nose to tail across the Hudson River. It felt like a green screen. It made me pause and be present for the first time in awhile. I've been running so fast at this goal that I haven't really appreciated the journey at all, but this view forced me to stop and smell the roses. I just sat here for 30 minutes thinking "damn life is so beautiful and human beings are amazing." It reminds me of that allegory in the Alchemist when the wise man tells a boy to go explore all the marvels of a magnificent palace, but instructs him to carry a spoon with two drops of oil without spilling any. The first time he comes back with all the oil but misses all the beauty of the palace. The 2nd time he comes back having seen everything there is to see, but has no oil in the spoon. The wiseman concludes by saying "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never forget the drops of oil on the spoon." You're probably like wtf is wrong with this guy hijacking this review of Pier A park to trauma dump, and that's fair. I'm a little crazy for sure. Shoutout to Pier A park though. It's nice to stop and smell the roses every once in a while. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
