Never once was I unhappy about being dropped off here to enjoy the splendors that is Ramsbottom. Early mornings are spent sitting in tribes and villages (according to age) while staff takes attendance for the day. Here, daily activities are reviewed for each activity and contests are competed in for points tallied weekly to distribute pizza parties. From here children ages 9+ (correct me if i'm wrong) are able to walk freely around the camp visiting its various areas, while younger children are lead around in groups. A Pool, Indian Lore, Pioneering (ropes courses, etc), Arts n' Crafts, Theater, Nature, Archery, Cooking, Rocketry, Fishing, Sports, Riflery, Mini Golf, Petting Zoo. . . .to name a few. . . are the activities provided at the camp. Awards are given out in a ceremony each Friday in regards to contests throughout the week or particularly outstanding campers for each activity. Groups meet for lunch in the middle of the day (meals provided if indicated) where attendance is taken again. One thing this camp is good at is not losing or endangering children. Attendance is taken 3 times throughout the day . . .some activities have age limits and training requirements before participation is allowed (such as archery and riflery). Staff is extremely friendly and outgoing, activities never boring, safety-oriented, nature-friendly. Great experience for any child. . . and even staff!!!

My daughter started attending Camp Evergreen at age six. As a shy child, I was nervous she might…read morenot fit in, but she absolutely thrived. For years, camp was her favorite place in the world, and she dreamed of one day becoming a counselor. She worked her way from camper to junior CIT to counselor, and the memories she made during that time were priceless. Unfortunately, when management changed, so did the atmosphere. The new leadership created an environment of favoritism and division, and my daughter--who had once felt so at home--found herself singled out and targeted by the owner. Camp shifted from a place she loved to one that left her feeling anxious and defensive. By the summer after her sophomore year, things had deteriorated so badly that she cut ties entirely. The most upsetting moment came just this week, when my daughter and a friend returned to collect an item from a 2020 time capsule. Although they were invited back by current staff, the owner treated them like intruders, personally escorting them off the property and watching them leave. This was an unnecessarily hostile end to what had once been a beautiful chapter in her life. I'm certain many children still have incredible summers here, and I truly hope they experience the same joy my daughter once did. But this review is directed solely at the current management, whose treatment of staff and alumni is deeply disappointing

My heart breaks for more recent campers who attend Camp Evergreen- you have missed out on the…read moregolden years of what this camp meant to many children, who then became Jr CITs, CITs, and then staff. My son attended from age 5 til age 17-- under the previous management my son benefited and enjoyed being a Jr CIT, CIT and Counselor. My daughter attended ages 5-14-- when the new management came in. This place used to feel like all the benefits of a sleep away camp, without the sleep away. The staff years ago were invested in every camper being themselves and making lifelong friendships. Since Ali Loscutoff took over many former campers don't stay as staff. Today 2 former campers returned to open a time capsule they buried 2020 to retrieve an item. They were asked to leave. The spirit of the camp clearly is not a priority for the new leadership. In the past I had tried to diplomatically share with her that her management style was pushing people away for her only to dismiss me.

Our daughter attended a one week session at the Art Smart Program this summer. As she is only five…read moreyears old, our expectations were mostly that she got to do something creative and fun. This program far surpassed our expectations and my daughter absolutely loved her week there. She completed a great number of projects and worked with a number of different mediums. The first day, she drew a portrait of Albert Einstein based on a photo. She worked with charcoal for the first time ever, and learned about using shadow to create depth. Another day she learned about vanishing points and drew an amazing street scene. She worked with clay sculpture, did boutique and tie-dye, made jewelry, learned how to blend and layer colors with watercolor painting, did a Warhol style self portrait, made a dream catcher, and made a doll of Anna from the Frozen movie. The studio extends outdoor also. They have built an outdoor nature studio in the woods where the kids spend some time each day. Here they incorporate natural elements into their creations, and my daughter made a beautiful fairy house out of 'found' elements such as moss, tree bark and small stones. This was all in five days and with all of that, they still found time to have snacks and lunch and to teach the kids some fun board games. The teachers were very good at letting us know how each day went. I think there were a couple of areas that could be improved. One day we forgot to send a bottle of water with my daughter. Our mistake. But it was not realized until after lunch and the meantime, she went thirsty all day. We would have liked the school to be a little more proactive, especially with young kids. The school's web site claims to offer early and late hours. I inquired about this. Donna, the owner, told me she would be there every day at 8am and that we could drop off then at no extra expense, so long as my daughter could do a quiet activity while she did setup. While that was very generous and helpful to us, the reality was that many days the first teacher did not arrive until well after 8am. We would have preferred that they setup some well defined ranges of before/after hours time. We would have gladly paid additionally for an early hour and not had the disruption to our work schedules. Overall though, we were very pleased with the camp, and my daughter is looking forward to attending again in the future!
