Went on Tuesday at about 3pm and looks like stable was open but the gate was closed. I checked Yelp before going to this place and it clearly said open till 6pm. I drove 45 miles to go to this place but as I reached the stable the gates were closed and they were people out there and no one opened the gate I called several times and just to answering machine. I left and no one called me back. I waited outside for 30 minutes but no answer. My daughter was really upset and we left. If you are not open for business please DONT advertise as open. Keep your door and business closed. Waste of time . read more

Long review warning. I've had just a few lessons here, over a couple of years, cuz I'm poor. A friend, who is a jumper judge out of Colorado who has judged in some upscale places, warned me that I might not feel welcomed because it's an upscale place and I only have paddock boots and chaps. But she was wrong - I never once felt like the poor cousin bumming rides. The first time I went they put me on a wonderful mare called Stella, a real treat to ride. About a month later I called for another lesson and they said they'd sold Stella and for my level they only had a stallion and a pony - take my choice. I'm a bit wary of both - too big really for a pony but I've found that stallions tend to be a bit impatient with amateurs. They said no, this particular guy had been raised like a gelding - he'd be fine, so I chose him. Well, damn. All I can say is that he was the best jumper I've ever ridden, was tolerant of my mistakes, took me over countless jumps willingly and kindly and has earned a place in horse heaven. And a huge thank you to Stella as well for showing the trainer that this unwealthy rider is serious enough to do her best job to be an effective, kind rider - perhaps even good enough to deserve the lesson of her life on such a wonderful horse. I'm hoping that one day I can afford to be a regular client of theirs. Don't get me wrong - they're not overpriced - it's just that I'm a single-income person taking care of my small family. Beautiful facility and horses. All the staff was very nice and welcoming. I had a wonderful lesson with Andrew. He is very experienced, professional and patient. I don't own my own horse, so it is nice that they have some wonderful lesson horses for many different riding levels. Scheduling a lesson with their online booking system is very user friendly. Heads up: this is a long review! In summary: Beautiful facility; excellent, friendly staff; top-notch coaching; beautiful horses... I have been a client of Maplewood Stables for about 3 years now. I have taken lessons on both of my horses, gone to shows with, and now purchased a horse from them. I am thrilled with all of my experiences with Maplewood Stables, from owner/trainer Julie Winkel (nationally respected judge and clinician), my trainer Corinne, grooms Antonio and Danny, and the interns. They care about their animals very deeply and it shows. The facility is beautiful: there are numerous arenas, including an indoor and a large Grand Prix field, trails around the property, three barns, and acres of always-green pastures. The horses are well cared for and the training program emphasizes a happy, healthy horse and solid relationship between rider and mount. They breed beautiful, sweet-tempered horses suited for the hunter, jumper, and/or equitation rings and are very good at matching rider ability and goals with the appropriate horse. In my experience, the staff has always been friendly and helpful. They offer lessons for riders of all ages and levels and have lesson horses available. I have had the opportunity to do a few clinics with Julie and her coaching style is wonderful! She takes the time to work with students on particular issues, but not to the point other students feel they aren't getting attention. I always learn so much from Julie's clinics and jump at the chance whenever one comes along. For my more regular lessons, I usually train with Corinne, who I love. Since I haul in from 2 hours away, Corinne has more than once answered questions over email or text and is full of exercises for me to work on at home! I have watched her coach some beginner lessons as well and she is fun, patient and encouraging at all levels. A previous reviewer commented on the hours of operation... Since this is a busy show barn and breeding facility, it is generally a good idea to call ahead and schedule an appointment. Julie travels often, and they take multiple horses to multiple shows all over the West coast throughout the year. There is always someone at Maplewood to teach lessons, but sometimes there is minimal staff if it is the weekend of a big show. If you are looking for a one-time lesson, they will be happy to accommodate, but due to the nature of the business, it can be difficult to arrange on short notice. This is a beautiful, professional operation and the health and happiness of their horses and clients are very important to them. If the 8 year old, horse crazy girl inside you is still wondering when to jump back into horses (or for the first time!), do it at Maplewood. You won't regret it. read more

Situated on a 150 acres, this board and training facility is beautiful consisting of three large outdoor arenas, an indoor arena, a large Grand Prix field as well as many large turn outs and pastures for the horses. English riding lessons are offered for people of all levels and ages. The staff is very welcoming and nice! They also have a tack store, summer camps, clinics, and much more!! read more

This facility is absolutely gorgeous! Tons of riding areas, from an indoor ring to grass riding field for a variety of footing for training or specific needs. Also includes a trail around most of the property. Mainly a show jumping barn, there are also many different types of jumps and natural obstacles. Tons of pastures, paddocks and various turnouts so horses spend a good amount of time out of their stalls. There is a tack store, the Hilltopper, connected to the main barn office with everything for horse and rider as well as seasonal items, educational books, and gift certificates.
