Less money for you I guess. Griot plate consists of Griot (fried pork), Riz Collee (haitian styled rice), fried plantain and a small (very!) gravy sauce and picklies (spicy sauce). Griot was good albeit a smaller than ideal portion. Lunch special. Riz collee was just OK, lacked seasoning and a bit dry? How? It's lunch time. Plantain was undercooked (raw inside). The gravy sauce was also small (smallest I ever had and I had my fair share of this plate). Picklies was perfectly fine. Pricing is about average. There was way more rice than griot as per the norm I've experienced elsewhere. Gravy sauce was too small. Plantain was a miss for me. Overall the value is a little low for me and the competition really does it better. I'd come back in a bind and give them a second chance but I'd rather drive a little further to get the good stuff.

The plate was big...lots of rice, chunks of fried pork and sides....the pork was a bit on the dry side, so I poured some of the sauce on it....the rice and beans was really good. The fried plantains were not hot nor crunchy/crispy. Not a fan. The salad was fresh. Overall not a bad choice if you are in this part of town but not my favorite Haitian spot.....

Speaking with Chef and owner Wadensky Fontaine (formerly Omni and William Grey hotel), he passionately explains his desire to use local ingredients from homeland Haiti but also pulls from its roots in West Africa coastal countries including Benin, Ghana, and of course also from Quebec since we live here. As an example, why not use tarot, manioc and yucca to make root vegetable fries out of it - this brings together flavours and cultures from Quebec, Caribbean and Africa! Other delicious options include sandwiches with brisket, fried fish, or fried tofu, and even corn bread pudding. As part of Yelp Elite event, I chose the jerk chicken platter - it was moist, flavourful, slightly spicy and smoky! To contrast the flavours, it came with a side of rice & beans but also a crunchy, tangy yet not bitter kale salad that was amazingly delicious along with some pickled vegetables which made you wanting more with each and every bite! I have never had such bland Carribean food in my life. The shirimp okra and halibut stew is more a soup. A very bland soup that desperately needed at least some salt. Vegetables and very little of the promised seafood in a flavourless broth with no bite to it. The ceviche was not much better, soupy with very little flavour and no spice. I believe at one point in the past they used to have a fairly extensive rum menu but that seems to have been discontinued. This was the third time I've been to Palme since they've opened and it will most certainly be my last.
