Marché Couvert, Colmar
Bruce K.

I have been to several of these food hall and marketplace businesses in my travels. Hötorgshallen in Stockholm, Time Out Market in Lisbon, and the huge Heirloom Market in Philadelphia are similar in design - a huge building with a loop of walkways and food vendors all displaying their meals ready to eat. Some seating here and there and a few places have their own dedicated stools or tables. We did one walk through the hallway and noticed that at 6:45 pm, most of the vendors were getting ready to close up for the day. So we grabbed seats at the next one, asked if they were still taking orders and did so. I didn't know at the time, It turned out to be a vegan restaurant and it was my own fault for not fully translating the "Burger Alsacien" to see that it was chick pea patties. It turned out to be entirely delicious and enjoyable, plus the healthy aspect of it meant that I could have something not-quite-healthy for dessert later. Busy market, lots of options. I suggest that you walk one loop around to see what's good because if you pick just the first one, you'll probably find something else later and go, "Wow, we should have had that!" This place is definitely worth a stop. Super cute town, and to find this was a treat. There's something for everyone. My son had Asian food, I had a coffee and a pastry as did my husband. We didn't purchase any of the legumes because we were traveling through, but they looked wonderful. Is it the best food hall/market we've ever been to? No, but it's definitely worth a visit for all its charm.

This is an indoor market. 3 star due to no trashcans inside the market. We had to go outside for the trash can. They have variety of food options. It is nice and clean inside. There were no staff available to help, only venders.

Why wasn't this listed as one of the top spots to visit in Colmar in all of my pre-trip reading? We've visited our fair share of food halls (I specially search them out) and this one was quite lovely given the size of the town. The market boasts around 15 vendors and could easily entertain for an hour of shopping and grabbing drinks or a snack from the cafe. The vendors were all quite lovely and made the experience fun. It's a mix between those who accept card vs. cash only. Also note that this is within the heart of the Fishmonger's District and Little Venice in Colmar. A taste of what you'll find at each stall: -cheese stall -quiche -fish -Vietnamese -Moroccan -coffee cafe -meats -Bretzels -produce -patio overlooking the water- such a fun spot to kick off the day!

Very nice market with original French food :)

Münsterplatz Food Market - Having a taste of traditional Lange Rote is a Must!

Every day (except Sunday), Freiburg has a fabulous open-air market in the Münsterplatz ( the plaza…read morearound the big cathedral ) The biggest and nicest market day is Saturday! You'll see local goodies like honey, cheeses, breads & baked goods. There are also flowers, fruits, veggies & food stalls everywhere the eyes looks - colorful, fresh & one of Freiburg's "must-indulge" attractions for sure. We didn't know about this market & had just eaten a huge breakfast at our hotel, so there was no tasty treat indulgence however, we did go crazy at a particular stall selling local honey Blue Cornflower & Rapeseed Flower honeys were ours for the taking. Also tried an Oak Tree honey that was interesting as well & had we had the luggage space, I could have gone totally crazy as she had all kinds of honey products like soaps & candles in addition to outrageously scrumptious raw honey Farmers' stalls are piled high with fresh produce and the cheese stalls were too tempting w/ their local yet diverse selections. Food stalls see tourists & locals alike, lining up to buy meaty, grilled sausages or freshly baked rolls & sweet buns. My best advice to you is come early, come hungry, & bring lots of cash!

Excellent market selling local food produce & utensils at very reasonable prices. I would strongly…read morerecommend the various wurststands, other he fruit stands & also the local honey. There is also a stand for vegans here as well (though not been given that I am not vegan).

For 20-30 francs you can get international food serviced on real plates with real cutlery. Thanks…read moreto Benjamin B, my friends and I stopped in during the lunch hour to look around. The lay of the space is like a food court where you can eat with your eyes and choose your international food choice. From Asian, to Indian, to sandwiches, to gelato and more. There's a dish drop off when you're done. Washrooms are near one of the exits and there's even a change room for babies. Many thanks for fellow Yelper Benjamin B for recommending. The prices there are similar to restaurant, with no tip and no reservations required (because reservations are a must for most Swiss restaurants).

I like the German stand best, I think, located all the way in. But for the most part, it is just average at best but overpriced. Even simple Chinese food (and still the bad German style you're used to) costs about EUR6 for chicken with rice. There is almost no seating available during the lunch rush, and it can even be hard to find a standing-place at the high tables. With all the people rushing about and the limited space, it can be quite uncomfortable and not exactly a nice break from work. I'd say altogether I'd give this place 2.5 stars if I could. Before the prices went up last year, at least it would be 3 because I would go every once in a while. But I find now it's not even good enough as just a different place to go for lunch... and hence 2 stars. Not horrible, but there's no need to visit here.
