I hesitate to even review Marea because I don't want anyone to know about this absolute gem of a place. Situated a mere five minutes from the Zihua airport in Playa Blanca is this beautiful resort. It is owned by an American man and his wife. It is truly the most beautiful and serene place we have ever been. If you have little ones there isn't much within walking distance so you do need a car or cab (I recommend a cab). But if you don't have little ones there are a few places you can walk to via the beach. It is so quiet here and everything you need is at the resort. The restaurant has delicious food for every meal and of course a fully stocked bar. They will make any drink you would like and will make you their own concoction as well. Many of the units are owned and rented out but Marea handles everything so it is no different than a hotel. Housekeeping comes daily and they are very thorough. We are very neat and tidy even on vacation but she still spent 45 minutes to an hour in our room everyday. Each unit has their own plunge pool and a kitchen with all the necessities. The Mega (like a super Walmart) is 15 minutes away so we stocked up on snacks and breakfast items. You can choose different floor plans. We went with a three bedroom, three bathroom. Again everything you need; towels, pool towels, soaps, robes, iron and blow dryer. There is an air conditioning unit in every room as well as a ceiling fan. Most important, we felt safe. I was so nervous with all of the bad publicity Mexico has received but other than at night we never locked the doors. We walked the beach at night and I ran in the mornings alone. Everything is clean, everyone is friendly and it is just pure heaven.

This villa is probably in the top three of my favorite places to stay ever! The staff was incredible - catering to our every need. The villa was gorgeous and had all the amenities of home. The balcony was absolutely amazing with the private mini pool, the large lounger and the spectacular view - especially at sunset! They even had a special surprise for a life event that we were celebrating! We will absolutely go back and recommend this place 100%! read more

The best kept secret on the west coast of Mexico and certainly Zihua. Choose units labeled "BEACHFRONT VILLAS" for unobstructed ocean views and access. Its amazing to wake up with that crazy view of just you and the ocean. Our unit E24 had a great Bluetooth stereo system, fast wife and even its own private plunge pool plus the three amazing resort pools Beach is wide and clean and you can walk for miles, often without seeing another person! New, modern and clean. Great onsite restaurant and bar Especially the happy hour with Tirso the bartender. Breakfasts are delicious. Fully stocked gym and courts for paddle and pickleball. Close to airport. Safe. read more

Most relaxed and pampered that I have been in years, maybe a decade. The villas are perfect and so close to the sea. Private plunge pools are a really nice touch and I loved watching the waves from them. Jason, the owner, was present and attentive to all guests. The food at the restaurant was delicious, a great mix of traditional food with some comfort food for Northerners. Victorino, Guadalupe, Darwin, Baldwin, Amado, Sergio and Amairani were so helpful and took care of us! Had amazing massages in our villa and a great boat trip to snorkel and fish. Would love to come back for a longer trip. So relaxing! read more

Marea is the perfect place to escape in Mexico if you are looking for a beautiful beachfront resort that has amazing, large and comfortable villas; is quiet; and has incredible food, fabulous cocktails, and friendly, accommodating service. We have visited Marea twice and have every intention of coming back! read more

Room looks gorgeous, but bed is HORRIBLE - woke w/ back aches. Toilet & closet is outdoors, bugs everywhere, so no A/C. They warn if you use more than tiny packet of coffee you'll pay for more (they don't refill!)! NOT A HOTEL - these are CONDOS w/ concierge...sales materials everywhere & staff repeatedly uttering slogan "welcome home"(seems sweet at first, then you hear it 10 times & see it in brochure...). A "villa" is not separate - it's 3 story bldg, so unless you're at the end, there's little privacy. Not eco friendly -no signs to conserve water/linens, & look at you crazy if you don't want new sheets & mopped floors daily. Staff disregard 'do not disturb' - one day 5 separate knocks! Massage 30 min late, no apologies. At reservation, Andres agrees to arrange something special for bday dinner, then NOTHING done & restaurant (priced like US) says if you don't want existing prix fixe (wife doesn't eat beef), best they can do is a BURGER...even though we ate from lunch menu 4 hrs ago. Andres took zero responsibility for his mistake, went hungry as Darwin ghosted us that night. No bikes as promised, nothing local, must pay for cabs EVERYWHERE! Marea jacks up transport $ FROM airport - 420p when only 280p to leave! Wife VERY ill from Ola's food (did not ingest tap water)- NO accountability. Checked out early due to this, took a week to get promised refund STARTED- Jesus & Alma refused @ checkout! Shifty management, GM ignored emails. Not the Mexico I love at all. AVOID! read more
