I visited Dr Styler's office and I'm never going anywhere else again. I visited during this whole pandemic and when I arrived I was the only one in the office so the check in process was very speedy. They of course required a mask and provided gloves at the front desk as well. Blanca in the front desk was very courteous and polite and then the nurse (who's name I forgot ) was also very polite and professional. When Dr. Styler came into the room I was just as pleased with her. She's extremely patient and takes her time explaining things as well as answering any questions. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable. She was amazing the whole time. Unfortunately the only downside to this office is that unlike my other GYN offices, they refer you out for ultrasounds and other work--however, I don't mind that at all because of the great service and care I got from everyone in the office. Found her on ZocDoc and got a same day appointment. I was expecting the best experience ever, but honestly got subpar treatment. She was very dismissive and was rushing me out of the office. She didn't answer any of my concerns or questions in a serious manner. Honestly, the three stars are for the nurse that helped me and answered my questions patiently. I had dropped 90+ pounds through lifestyle. I was suffering PMS-like symptoms, specifically cramps. When I arrived at her office, her administrators insisted that I owed nothing. Then, I met Marianne. First, Marianne began by admonishing me. She said that despite my "dramatic transformation," I was deluding myself if I thought there was anything I could do to feel better. Then. Marianne Styler, MD told me my condition was "FATAL." Marianne Styler, MD said perimenopause is "FATAL." I entreated her: Was there nothing I could do on my own behalf, to ease the suffering? Didn't her "alternative medicine" bookshelf suggest any options? Marianne could have recommended any number of things: Acupuncture. Red-light therapy. Hatha yoga. She could have have asked if I was sleeping okay. She could have asked how my sex life was. She did NONE of these things! Instead, Marianne Styler, MD wrote a prescription for an intravaginal ultrasound. Dr. Marianne Styler REFUSED TO TOUCH my 52-year-old Puerto Rican body but she was quick to prescribe a vaginal ultrasound. Thankfully, my friend (who is a registered nurse) alerted me that my insurance would not cover this procedure. Later, the bill arrived. Marianne's administrators had failed to charge me. Recently, Marianne emailed a press release to announce she retired her practice. Now, Marianne is a "life coach." May heaven help anyone who crosses the path of this White supremacist. read more

I went once to this MD when she practied in the West 80s. The office was pretty, the UWS location in a handsome building was great, the other patrons in the waiting room looked hip and smart (most of the women were NOT reading women's magazines but the NYT or Newsweek). At first, I also thought it was a positive that Dr. Styler had quartz crystals and other sort of New Age imagery and objects around her office. However, while she was kind and positive, I felt I got a substandard exam (not the usual amount or location of manual palpation) and too much questioning and talk about personal topics (unrelated to gynecology) that ultimately resulted in a referral to a male "therapist" of some sort and whose practice - as decribed by Dr. Styler - seemed unconventional. I got the feeling that I'd been pipelined into the referral pool for a friend or possibly relative of Dr. Styler. Given the inadequacy of my manual exam, the extraneous conversation and referral, and the feeling of not having been sufficiently examined but instead "prospected", I did not return. I may have misread Dr. Styler's methods and approach but this was my experience and it was less than satisying. read more

I wanted to update my review to 5 stars. I'm still seeing Dr. Styler and she is wonderful. Case in point - it was the end of the calendar year and I needed an additional appointment for a test. With holiday breaks and closings, I was concerned I wouldn't be seen in 2014 which was vital for insurance purposes as only a few days remained. However, I e-mailed Dr. Styler my concern and she came in to open her office, taking time out of her own vacation, in order to see me! Now that's a caring doctor who has her patients' interest at heart. I truly appreciated it and am much more at ease knowing the insurance situation will work out. Because of insurance companies or doctors no longer accepting my insurance, I was without a consistent GYN for several years and then went through a few GYNs before discovering Dr. Styler. My cousin recommended Dr. Styler to me in 2009. I have been completely satisfied and more importantly I trust and value her opinion. She had given up her private practice and I wasn't happy at Kips Bay GYN, but thankfully she is back at her private practice. She offers solid advice, quickly responds to emails or calls. I want to start and end this review with Dr Styler is a Gem! I have been to several OB GYN's in the city. Most failed my criteria. As a person in the health field, I generally know what I am looking for. As a new patient, we can't usually SPEAK with the physician before we see them, so we have to use other resources. First, ask friends, then check out the Doctor's website for location, background, education, insurance. Next, go to Yelp, Vitals.com, Healthgrades.com...but often, that's not enough. THE FRONT OFFICE AND WAITING ROOM: "Our first introduction to the Doctor". I've discovered that if the front office is hurried and abrupt while scheduling your first appointment on the phone, nothing much will change if you are standing there in person. If you can't even REACH someone on your first phone call, if you are put on hold numerous times before you can actually speak with someone, then most likely, it won't change when you are a patient either. Good luck getting that Rx Refill or Lab Result! Dr Styler's front office staff were very calm, unhurried, professional and friendly from my first phone call to when I arrived in her comfortable waiting room. I filled out my medical history and was brought in. Very pleasant experience! THE BACK STAFF: Friendly, professional and gentle staff taking vitals and reviewing medical history. EXAM ROOM: My first impression... CLEAN. I've been to places that are NOT. Check out the floors and patient tables of your exam room next time. COMFORTABLE. Dr Styler has relaxing "massage" room music playing and a small trickling fountain in the exam room. Immediately felt relaxed and comfortable. DR STYLER: I appreciate the fact that she is a more mature woman with experiences that the younger OBGYN physicians do not have. She took the time to discuss why I was there and answer all of my questions thoroughly. She seems very genuine, very kind, empathetic and intuitive. She has a very open, responsive manner. She recommended a 3D tomo mammography (I had no idea this was available) that would provide a much more diagnostic scan. She invited me to call her anytime if I had any further questions. Her office sent test results via email the following week. Socio-political pressures have forced doctors to churn through patients in order to meet productivity demands of low payment insurance and managed care climates. A good physician is essential and can make the difference between life and death. Though I have been fortunate to not have health problems, after my conversation with Dr Styler, I trust that she has good ethics, common sense, with the clinical knowledge and ability to pick up an early diagnosis with decisiveness. I found Dr. Styler a few years ago by chance, and it was the greatest chance find ever, as she's the most unique, most caring doctor I've ever encountered. When she moved to large practice, I followed her there, but then she left and they wouldn't given any information as to where she'd gone. I googled every few months, but felt maybe she'd retired as I couldn't find signs of her practicing anywhere. By chance this weekend I looked her up again as I needed to see a doctor for some medication, and lo and behold, she was back in her original solo practice location! I was able to see her the next day, and besides catching up on what happened with my health in detail since I last saw her, she also discussed another health issue at length with me that's been a huge concern of mine. This is something that another doctor brushed aside this past year when I made an appointment just to discuss it. But Dr. Styler listened and talked to me about options I could try. Finally, after a year of this not being addressed medically, I have something I can try. And if that doesn't work, she told me that we can try other routes. Dr. Styler isn't a typical doctor, she doesn't rush you, is incredibly warm and caring, and understands that you know your own health and wants best. Horrible- I had a positive result on an STD test and she did not call me with this information, rather she posted it on the 'portal' and wrote a message to follow-up in a year and if I had any questions I could GOOGLE IT. I stayed with Dr. Styler for close to two years mostly because of her receptionist, Ada (who is no longer with her). Ada was so knowledgeable and responsive that it made contact with Dr. Styler for the most part avoidable. I found however that Dr. Styler was judgmental and not a very good listener. Whenever I came to her with any research or theories about something that was bothering me she immediately shot my theories down and cut me off. I understand that Google can be the bane of doctors' existence when patients confuse folklore with science, but doctors should understand as well that being involved in one's own care is as important as it is empowering, comforting and healing. In my case, I was right about those theories. I endured almost two years of excruciating pain because Dr. Styler refused to validate my suspicion that the medication I was taking was causing the symptoms. She actually suggested therapy because she said the pain was in my head and due to emotional problems. I stupidly did not discontinue it until she closed her practice and I stopped seeing her. Within two weeks of quitting the pain was gone, my body started returning to normal and my hair started growing back. I learned that sometimes you and your body know better than the doctor, and everyone should find a doctor that respects that possibility read more
