I visited on a Thursday evening and I took a seat at the bar. The barista was very pleasant. She was attentive. She not only covered the bartop, but the table beside the bar. She's a true hustler. I order the camaron de diabla. It was spicy shrimp, rice, mixed veggies and a slice of toast bread. The are large tvs in the bar area. The experience exceeded my expectations. Service was slow. Ambiance was great. Food terrible. Ordered the combination plate Beef Taco, Beef Enchilada, Beef Burrito. Beef Taco was great. The Enchilada and Burrito were disgusting. Meat filling in both that was it. The only thing that separated the taco and burrito was the tortilla used. The sauce tasted like marinara sauce. Having Mexican roots, I was very disappointed in the quality. They should change the name to Maria's Tex-mex. read more

This review is post Hurricane Laura. There isn't much up and running in the Lake Charles area. Definitely not any sit down restaurants. It was very refreshing to find them open with sit down dining. The parking lot was packed, again it's one of the few things open and they stay open past 7PM, current curfew. With that said it's a busy restaurant and everyone staff wise seems to be doing their best. I find the menu extensive with good photos and descriptions. My menu was a little dirty prior to it's arrival to me. The restrooms were a little ransacked too. The staff might be a little overwhelmed for the crowds. Overall found the food to be good and affordable. I'll definitely be back here during my stay. Not many options unless you want to eat at a gas station late at night. One thing that was a little taken back was the lack of Covid protocol. No hand sanitizer at the entrance. No social distancing and no employees wore a mask. I wore mine at the table until food and drinks arrived. No other visitors wore their masks but that is very common in the area. read more

The waitress was awesome. But the food was nasty. It tasted like leftovers. The lettuce tasted old. The chicken was dry. Shrimp was ok, beans and rice were good. The stuff jalapeño were super hot! Nice place, brightly lit and decorated. Food was delicious. I wish I had taken pictures of the food but I forgot. Maybe next time. Hubby got the plate of quesadillas that were STUFFED with shrimp and I got a Happy Plate. Aptly named, it has rice, steak and white queso. I was very happy. read more

We love this place. We went every night for about 3 weeks and we still come back 1-2 times a week when we're in town. The staff has always been great to us. I've had the mesquite grill, burrito loco, shrimp tacos, shrimp cocktail, and plato de maria and it has all been great. The chips are always fresh. The salsa is very flavorful. They also have two different kinds of salsa verde (that are free!) We love their margaritas. We sometimes just go to eat chips, guac, and drink the margaritas. read more

Middle of the road Mexican food here. Chili relleno didn't taste fresh & was possibly from the frozen foods world. Salsa was delicious. Drive-thru took us 47 minutes & we were 2nd in line. We found ourselves in Sulphur La in need of a late lunch. Maria's Cocina Mexicana looked appealing and the parking lot was still pretty full at 2:30pm. Once seated and given a menu, I opened mine to find dried hot sauce between the pages. My wife and I both ordered chicken and beef enchiladas and a taco. Everything we ate was bland and tasteless with Mexican spices or flare to it. My wife's Peach Margarita tasted 'peachless', and my Grand Margarita tasted only of tequila . For a $50 dining experience, we were highly disappointed...we will not return or recommend. Sad Sad read more

I love this restaurant. Probably the best Mexican food I have tried in Sulphur/ Lake Charles area! I ordered the seafood enchiladas and I loved them. I was surprised they had crawfish and thought they were unique because I've tried other ones and usually only have shrimp. My family loved there meals and my 5 year old and 9 months old baby loved the food! Outstanding service! I dropped some water on the table by accident and they were nice and quick about cleaning up and they even offered to give us a new table. Margaritas are very yummy as well and aren't watered down. I ordered the cucumber margarita. Also a plus they were playing Maná songs. read more

I am in Lake Charles with my team for Hurricane Laura relief and this is the third time in a week that we have been to this restaurant. I wasn't with them the first time they came but the second time, our service was super-slow. My food was good so, even though the rest of my team had other issues with the food & the service, we decided to give them another chance tonight...BIG MISTAKE!! We were seated at 6:30. It took us 15 minutes to order our drinks and appetizers. It took another 20 minutes to get our food orders placed. We watched 3 other tables get seated, receive their food, eat , pay and leave in the 2 1/2 hours that we waited for our food. The waitress told us 3 times that our food was coming out next. The last time I spoke with her she told me that the kitchen lost our ticket twice. We asked to speak with the manager and he told us that the wait time was an hour, which wasn't true because again we watched 3 tables get seated, fed, and exited long after our order was taken. There were only 5 in our party and we ordered burritos, tacos, and quesadillas...standard Mexican restaurant fare. Our food finally came out at 8:42 pm - 2 hours and 12 minutes after we sat down. We asked to speak with the manager again but he avoided our table. He told the waitress to comp the meal but by then, the damage had been done. We will NEVER go to this restaurant again. Three strikes and you're out!! I'd rather drive an hour to Beaumont than to spend another penny here. read more
