The building was an old gas station at one time. It's painted a reddish color and sits on the corner but on the main drag. Not busy so walked in and sat. The waitress was very nice and friendly and took our order. We ordered omelets which came with hash browns and toast. The omelets were large and tasty. I ordered hash whites and they were perfect. The prices are extremely reasonable almost cheap. We were just passing through so we won't return but we highly recommend this place read more

The reviews made this place sound amazing. It was definitely not like the reviews. I had just higher expectations and it was very eh. This is food for when you just don't want fast food and there's nothing else around. We got tamales and burritos and they were very mediocre. It really all needs more seasoning, no salt at all, not a whole lot of flavor. I don't think I'd ever go out of my way to return. Very nice staff, though. We stopped at the Allsup's for coffee and asked the cashier if she knew of a nearby place to eat that was open after 9PM and she pointed us to Maria's! We were on a 12+ hour drive home from central Texas to Colorado Springs and we needed to get into some place warm for a bit as the temperatures were under 30. We stepped into a pretty basic looking place with cheapy tables and chairs, but it was all clean and it was perfectly warm and cozy. The waitress, possibly the owner, got us some chips and salsa and had our drinks quick as ever. We were the only customers, so it was pretty quiet. The menu was what you'd expect at a small town diner: basic American and Mexican stuff. I got the Mexican Steak and a bit of the green chile on the side since she said it was hot. It was about a 2 out of 10 for heat, but it was perfect on a cold winter night! I opted out of the onions, so my steak was a chopped mess of beef cubes, jalapenos and tomatoes. I dumped some into a flour tortilla with beans, rice, lettuce and a spoonful of the chili! My wife had the combo dinner with a cheese enchilada, chili relleno and a taco. The enchilada was pretty good, but we both thought the red sauce needed some kind of kick. The taco was fine, and the chili relleno was battered in cornmeal! That was unexpected, kinda cool, but not one we'd want to try again. Great service, good food, and it was so cheap I wish it was a lot closer. Prices on the menu are very affordable so make sure to bring the whole family. The only reason they didn't get the full 5 stars was there was no dessert. Stopped here on our trip back from Colorado. It's a nice restaurant. Food was ok but nothing amazing. I'm not a huge Mexican food fan so I ordered the chicken fried steak and baked potato. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special. If anything I would describe the food as average. I tried my brother in-law's grilled chicken and I knew immediately that it was a Tyson chicken breast patty. Exact same flavor and texture. Service was great. I drive this route back and forth to Texas and always see a lot of cars parked outside Maria's. I also noticed they were open on Sunday, which can be hard to find along this route (Sunday options are usually limited to fast food choices). We arrived at the changeover between breakfast and lunch. Only one waitress to cover the restaurant and she was busy. We were not in a rush, so didn't mind waiting. I had the 1/2 burrito plate and my husband ordered a hamburger. Both meals were very tasty. I asked for chips and salsa multiple times, but was never able to get any, so can't report on how that was. We would definitely go back, but try during an off peak time. read more
