This was so fun!! I really can't believe it's free! Be prepared for a little wait, and then when it's your turn, you sit in the little train and head off - at a fun speed! - for a 20 minute ride! It's fun and relaxing at the same time. :) I definitely gave a donation after because there really should be an entrance fee!! After riding the train, my girls loved walking around the little Western village and playing pretend. My only complaint is that babies can't ride if they can't walk, which was not currently stated on the website. But it's surprising because a baby strapped to a carrier on someone's chest or back shouldn't be a problem at all, but my wife had to stay back because of that. read more

If you live in the west valley, it is cool and probably worth it. We live in Mesa so it was a drive for us. Didn't think it had a ton to offer as an adult, kids loved it though. Cute place for a birthday party. Cute at Christmas. Just seems kind of boring and not much else to do except ride a small train. Nice that it's free, you should definitely donate if you go. Riding the train, they don't allow kids that can't walk and sit on their own (you can't hold your kid). So my one year old couldn't go. It was fine just kind of a bummer for not much else to do. It would be cool if they had a playground or something. Probably won't come back for a while. I'd recommend giving it a try just don't expect it to be like the Scottsdale Train Park. Cute spot with a surprising amount of rail lines for being completely volunteer run! We arrived soon after they opened (11am - note their hours seem to change often) on a Sunday in April. Plenty of parking. We waited a few minutes for a train ride. You do have to watch a safety video and sign a pretty lengthy online waiver. The train itself is small (you sit in single file with legs straddling the seats), but there are multiple routes and they are all at least 10 to 15 minutes. One line goes in a loop. The little setups you see on the route are cute and DIY, kind of all over the place (some made of toys, some garden ornaments, some miniatures built to different scales). Another line brings you to the rail museum for 10 minutes and then rings over loud bell so everyone comes back on the train, which is really useful for ushering the kiddos. You can also ride a separate train (all of these start in the same area) that just goes 20 feet but they allow kids to control the remote that drives the train forward. You are very exposed to the sun for the entire train ride, so cover up! The waiting area is shaded. The staff is retired age but very friendly. I can't believe this is all free! You do have chances to donate and there is a small outdoor gift shop. read more

What a desert gem! Friendly treasure hiding in the west valley. It's hard to describe, but I'll try! Maricopa live steamers has so much desert land! It's got an old west town vibe Then several freighters full of train parts and gadgets. Run by volunteers, collecting donations, you can get in line to tour the tracks on one of the engines. The engines go around the desert dust with small little surprises built along the way. My sons were thrilled with this more slow train, as it didn't have scary steam or move overly fast. Everyone was very friendly- we got there close to closing and so we didn't get to explore more, but will be back in the fall. I also see so much potential out here! There's no food or drink on site that I could see, but I could see crowds flocking for fun and food trucks! read more

The train rides are free, just need to sign a waiver for each person that rides. This is per Maricopa park district. My dad is a member there and I've rode the train as recently as February 2023. Kids really like the train rides. I recommend it. read more

Heard this was a really cool experience from some friends of ours and decided to check it out. Best of all, as if this little Wild West village isn't cool enough, the train rides are FREE during operation hours! (But generous donations are appreciated!) This is a great little train ride that takes you around for about a twenty minute ride through a track lit by a good amount of colorful lights and displays during the holiday season. Year round this place is filled with a variety of railroad and train related items from years past. They have multiple "mini" steam trains running on the main track, compete with those awesome train whistles to get all the kiddies excited, and shouting, "The train is coming! I see it!!". All along the track are nice little details and a few larger show scenes along the way. Be advised there is NO lap sitting, so children that cannot walk on their own are not allowed to ride. This train park is incredible. Non profit, donation based, with a love to share the world about the history of all things trains- building, maintaining, educating, you name it. The REAL DEAL! If you are a train enthusiast, this is the place to go! Super cool Wild West Village, train rides are FREE during hours of operation (donations are appreciated), the Volunteers are SUPER nice, the train rides are LONG, and you get to experience the desert life + there are cute decorations, little village scapes, and funny signs during the train ride. If you have TRAIN LOVERS in your group, GO HERE! This is the place for them! Plus, they have a museum full of really interesting items to look at. Great Christmas Train Rides too!
