I turn into a neurotic mess when my photo is taken, so it was reassuring to get an email before the photo shoot with suggestions for what to wear and how to style ourselves. She also asked us if there was anything we wanted touched up a little in the final shots, such that the raging zit I had at the time of the shoot is concealed (did I mention I get all stressed out about being photographed?!). I got a few shots breastfeeding, too, and she did an excellent job sensitively capturing this intimate, treasured exchange between me and my daughter. It was 11 degrees out. She showed up at a cool (and cold) outdoor location. She was super sweet, and tried to assuage my concerns. I don't know how her fingers didn't fall off as she worked the camera... I was reaching my limit as far as cold, and I don't get cold so easily. But, I didn't feel rushed at all. Even when I was walking like an nonagenarian on the icy ground, she was patient and encouraging. Very approachable and real, and talented, she is. She shot our close friends' wedding and I was in their enormous wedding party. She handled all (18!) of us with calm assurance. The resulting photos were incredible. We actually ended up using one of the photos of us from that wedding as our engagement photo. I'm a professional event planner and have worked with many excellent photographers. What I really appreciated about Maureen's work was her ability to capture really touching candids - and really fun "formals". We decided against interviewing lots of photographers and booked Maureen after one meeting. It was a perk that she gave an LGBT community discount. We set up a Pinterest board shared with Maureen and proceeded to pin all kinds of wedding photos that we liked (including weddings at your venue). We threw in a few really fun and quirky shots that really fit our fall theme. The day of the wedding her and her assistant magically made those moments happen. We brought huge bins of pressed autumn oak leaves which she put to great use - including a fun montage throwing leaves with our nephews, a stunning photo of us laying on a bed of leaves and an incredible candid of us laughing as leaves rain down on us. Maureen's photos speak for themselves - but you also get a real professional who manages to be everywhere yet not ever in the way. Oh, and she uploaded a few images to Facebook that night, emailed a dozen more the next day and uploaded the rest of the images (over 850!) just 2.5 weeks after the wedding! After all the horror stories I've heard about couples waiting months (or longer) it was awesome to receive the images so quickly. She, with our permission, also uploaded many of them to her Facebook page making it really easy to share them with friends and family. Thank goodness she was, too. If we didn't know her, we might not have found her, and that would have been a huge loss. Other folks have talked plenty about how easy Maureen is to work with, and it's all true. She manages to walk the very fine line between friendly and professional, she has unfailing energy, and a can-do attitude. You know how the Marines talk about Improvising, Adapting and Overcoming? She has exactly that mindset. But here's the ONE most important thing when selecting a photographer. Her photos make us look good. Each picture tells a story. Some are epic, some are intimate, some are joyous or thoughtful or profound. There's the one of the two of us in front of a window that looks like a French new-wave movie (seriously, she made me look like Yves Montand, it was great!). There's the one of me and my Best Man locked in serious discussion before the wedding that's so dramatic my father-in-law refers to it as a "Jack and Bobby" shot. This made me feel good about how the photos were going to come out. My photos came out beautiful. I have done 3 separate shoots already (maternity, mommy & me milk bath, halloween mini) I enjoyed every single one of them . Sometimes things do not go as planned especially when you are shooting with a 3 month old baby that is crying . She offered and did drive to an entirely new location to try and make the best of an uncontrollable situation . Since that point, she…read morehas repeatedly harassed me to take down her negative review, offering "seriously buy ALL of the decorations, get a baker to bake the cake, and I can even buy her a cute outfit! I'll even gift you a canvas print or an album." despite me telling her no, over and over again. I literally had to tell her "no means no." When that didn't work, she minimized the importance of my daughter's birthday - "A wedding and a first birthday don't really compare..." I told her no they didn't, given that some people marry multiple times, but my only child will only turn one, once. So then she threatened me with legal action- "I will be talking to a lawyer and sending a Cease and Desist Letter for Slander." I told her to go ahead and consult a lawyer. Apparently, Ashley also doesn't know how to use Google to find the definition of slander. It's absolutely not slander if it is true. I have all of this documented, including how she admitted that she was scheduled to nanny on the day of my daughter's birthday, and her plan was just to call out sick. Is this the work ethic of someone you want to hire and trust with your important day? I am happy to send anyone screenshots. She then proceeded to post pictures of my child, as well as my personal address and phone number on social media. She says it was a mistake, but it's just another incident of carelessness and thoughtlessness by this woman. She states is was a one time double booking mistake. But she admitted to me that her original plan was just call out sick to her employers so that she could do the photography gig. That's not a mistake, that is a purposeful attempt to let down her employers. Does that sound like the work ethic of someone you want to hire? Whatever she chooses to call herself, you should look up her reviews, yourself, on yelp and other platforms . She has rebranded herself, so you can find her services both under her name, and also under Sea You Smile Photography. I am not the only person she canceled on. I think it is important that anyone considering hiring Ashley know this information.
