I rarely, if ever, write Yelp reviews. However, I had such a great experience at Mariella's salon that I felt compelled to write a review. The shop is, admittedly small, but there were no more than 3 people In the salon (including myself and Mariella, the owner) at any given time. Also, the salon is located in a convenient part of Queens and close to many convenient forms of public transportation, though I drove, and found parking with ease. The owner is so nice and friendly and warm. She spent more than ample time with me. She consulted me on my hair's "curl type" (as I am trying to do the Curly Girl Method), and she took her time cutting my hair (dry), before washing it, conditioning it, and putting in styling products that are good for curly hair. She explained her process to me while styling the hair. Then, Mariella dried my air with a diffuser. She showed me how to dry it to my taste (I am going to try to grow out my bangs so that they are short curly bangs) and she gave me some helpful hits to style my hair once I am done driving. When it came time to pay, I was surprised at how reasonable Mariella's pricing was given her experience and talent. She is trained by a very well known, curly-haired cutting and styling academy. I was so happy that I already booked my next appointment today (even though I don't have to return for 3 months). I wholly endorse this business. I spoke with Mariella about what I wanted, showed her a picture and she made it happen! (I have volume now!) She also gave me product and styling recommendations based on my hair type. Small cozy salon. The women there are very friendly and nice. Only place I could find in Queens that had someone who could do a deva cut. She did a good job and it didn't cost as much as it would have if I went to the city to get it done. I'm taking one star off because I do feel the cut could have been a bit better but it was still good. For Covid they spray the bottom of your shoes and wear a mask and give you hand sanitizer. I had an incredible experience at Mariella's salon and have been recommending it to all my friends! The salon itself is lovely: super clean w big windows, easy parking. Mariella is clearly a very experienced + passionate hair stylist, who knows what works for her clients and knows how to bring their ideas to life. I can be very self conscious about my hair being thin, but Mariella made me feel amazing about my hair. She took one look at this picture I showed her and made it happen. Went to this studio for the first time about 6 weeks ago and got one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time. Mariella took a few minutes to study my wavy hair before starting the cut. She is a real pro and understands wavy and curly hair. The products she recommended (she does not sell them) have been great. A haircut here is not cheap but it's worth every penny because you'll look great until your next cut, not just for the first week after the cut.
