The food was absolutely delicious and our guests (all of whom are big foodies!) loved every bite. The price was incredibly reasonable for such an expansive spread. Marijo's team were all amazing. When asked last year, the owner of Marilu's Catering, Marijo Gallagher, told us the reason her company did not have her name on it was because she was advised by someone never to put one's real name on their company-- so they aren't personally associated with it in case their customers aren't happy. Well the gig is up Marijo Gallagher. We aren't happy and now people will know you as the uncaring owner of Marilus Catering. So unprofessional and so rude. Sadly, had she returned our calls after our event ended, or at any point in the next 48 hours, and had she been willing to discuss the situation and presumable at least apologize, we wouldn't be posting now. Nor would we now be in the process of advising all our friends and colleagues not to use her company. Instead, she showed up unannounced outside our house to pick up the service dishes 2 days later and seemed surprised to run into us. She was rude and unapologetic and made it clear that "you ate all the food so there's nothing I am going to do to compensate you." Wow. Here's the deal. We ordered a couple thousand dollars worth of food for a 3pm semi-formal wedding shower for 32 people. When the delivery of the food was complete at 2:50 pm, we noticed that all of the "hot" items except the chicken were cold. Not lukewarm, cold. The hot artichoke/cheese dip was actually so cold that it was solid. We expressed our concern about the food and were told by the delivery guy that it would come up to temperature in a little while once he lit the small burners. He then left. But not until after he tracked mud into our house and on our off-white area rug!! He clearly had no idea what he was doing and is not qualified for his position. Because of Marijo's poor planning and his incompetence, the guests were not able to eat the meal when we planned it because as we began to serve, they noted that the food was cold. Embarrassed, we had to take everything and put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 400 to bring it up to temperature. Please beware! This woman is not nice and clearly is unwilling to admit a mistake. She doesn't care because she gets paid in cash before the event! (IRS aware??) Not the way to run a small business and not someone we will ever use again. read more

Poor customer service. Marijo Gallagher, owner, is rude and unprofessional. I paid over $2000 for a catered meal. She required payment in advance. And cash!(wonder how much the IRS is aware of...) The "hot" items arrived cold and although I was told they would come up to temperature in the stereo warmers before my party started, this was not the case. The food was delivered by 2:50 pm and the party started at 3:00! I was embarrassed when my guests commented that the food was cold and I had to delay the meal and put the items in my own oven at 400 for a half hour to make them edible. In addition, the delivery person tracked mud into my house and left muddy footprints on my white area rug! After 2 days, Marijo did not return phone calls to discuss my concerns but did come to my yard unannounced to pick up her service items thinking she could do so without having to see me. When I met her outside she denied there was a problem with my food and told me she was too busy to return my calls. She refused to accept any responsibility, did not apologize, and was extremely rude. This is not a woman you want to do business with. Do not use Marilus Catering. read more

My organization has used Marilu's catering for years to cater board meetings. I have always found her to be responsive, professional and courteous. The food is well prepared and she accommodates special requests that I have asked for. She delivered the food to the site of our meeting, served it and cleaned up rapidly afterwards. The food was hot, tasty and there was plenty to allow those who were so inclined to have seconds, especially at the very reasonable price point. My family has had Marilu's cater pig roasts for birthdays and special events. We have never been disappointed. Do yourself a favor and give her a try! read more

I do not believe these one star reviews for a second, the catering provided by marilu's catering was absolutely fabulous! We ordered dinner for two nights each for 24 people. The cost was extremely reasonable and the food was absolutely delicious. We would order it again and again and definitely highly recommend it!! Also it was delivered on time both times. Absolutely incredible! We worked with Mary Jo for catering for a large group. She was very responsive and highly professional. She worked with all of our dietary requests / restrictions, and delivered a delicious meal. She was friendly, punctual and just a downright lovely human being. And - the food was DELICIOUS! Marilu's catering is outstanding. The crew she hires and the food she produces is top notch. She did a friends bridal shower and wedding and nobody there had a bad thing to say about the food. She is on site cooking the food and making sure everything runs smoothly. She hires an extremely interactive and personable staff. She even came beforehand to help set up and make sure everything runs smoothly. I would highly recommend for any event if you want a very personable and great experience. Many in this business hire a crew and never are involved with the actual production, but this is not the case with Marilu's. Again I highly recommend this local business to anyone! read more

Mari Jo Gallagher from Mari Lu's catering is an awful human being and caterer! First - she was suppose to provide a pig roast on site, due to her negligence and not contacting our venue prior, she had to cook the pig off site because she did not have power. She assumed from previous experiences at the venue that power was available. Hot dogs and hamburgers were suppose to be grilled onsite and instead they were cooked offsite and were cold. She also forgot 2 dishes that were in our contract as well. When I told her that she forgot the dishes and wasn't going to pay until I got the correct amount - she continued to harass my wife and I. I had to contact the police department to make her stop and she didn't. Finally I paid her just to get her off my back and she said she called my father in law and he said the he couldn't believe that his daughter married a guy like me. Needless to say, she never contacted him at all. How this lady is still in business boggles my mind. I would not recommend her at all!!!!! Pure slop! read more

We had Marijo do a pig roast for our August lakeside wedding just a few weeks ago and she was amazing from beginning to end. Our meeting to discuss the menu and our venue was both relaxed and professional and it was very easy to figure out the deposit and subsequent payment. On the day of our wedding she and her crew arrived early and had everything set up and started without a hitch. Her timing was great and food was hot and ready (not to mention delicious!) right on schedule. Our family and friends did nothing but rave about how good the food was and I can honestly tell you I was excited to bring home the leftovers! The best part was that as I was walking down the aisle the family dog saw us and got excited and decided to (loudly and repeatedly) announce our presence... Marijo headed right over and distracted him so we could actually hear the processional music haha. Bottom line, Marijo and her catering is absolutely awesome! I would (and have) recommend her to anyone! Plus, now we know who to call for any of our future family functions! ;) read more

Marilu catered my baby shower yesterday and the food may have been the best part! Everyone was raving about the stuffed mushrooms. I was a guest at Aimee's wedding, and I can't say anything good about Marilu's catering. Your attitude towards the bride and her family was very unprofessional. The food was not anything special at all for a wedding and the noodles were not even warm, one of your staff didn't have the warmers on underneath them. Also, did you notice the piles of dishes on all the tables along with all the wine glasses? No one was coming around to pick them up.Again, that is something that should not be happening at a wedding. I would not recommend you to anyone for catering. read more

I was a guest at the Spencer wedding reception and felt compelled to respond given the response from Marilu's Catering to the brides review. It is human nature when you are criticized to feel defensive and state your point of view. Your response to the bride despite however you felt was very immature, mean spirited, and just plain offensive not only as a human being but even more as a service provider. You were hired to provide a service and from your customers point of view you failed in doing so. Instead of being concerned with the poor review you received and attempting to address the customers concerns, you verbally attacked the bride, her family members, and their wedding guests. Even if you feel the critique of the service you provided was unfair, a child would have enough common sense in that situation to say "Although I honestly disagree Aimee, is there anything I can do to right this wrong you feel". In conclusion I would like to offer an honest opinion of the food at the wedding because Marilu's Catering was so blatantly honest in their reply. The food was not bad but at best average. I would liken it to what you would receive at your local golf course after a Captain and Crew tournament...ok tasting but dry meats and a cold pasta dish that is intended to be hot. read more

Met Marijo for the first time at our catered event. We had a Pig Roast along with everything else. Everything went flawlessly. She was punctual and took extreme care and pride in her work. But what amazed me most (and made me take the time to write this) was that every food item, from mains, to sides, to deserts, was perfectly prepared. The banana cake was amazing! read more

I would love to give no stars. Meeting with Marijo and Tracey was fine at first with our plans of our wedding. She made us feel like she would take care of everything and not to worry, she was very casual and just "yeah, it's no problem" "I've done this plenty of times before" We met with her December 26th 2015 the first time and we selected a menu and discussed it would be a full bar with beer wine and liquor. We met again early in the year then met a final time in July of 2016. We are both from Virginia so driving up here we wanted to make sure everything was good to go for our October 15th 2016 wedding. At the visit in July we went over the menu one last time a long with the alcohol. My mother in law picked the wines and beer menu then my husband and I picked captain Morgan, Jack Daniels and we wanted a vodka, we are not much of vodka drinkers so we asked Marijo what do you think is a good vodka brand she responded by saying "kettle one" "it's cheap, and no one really cares" we left there confident she was going to handle EVERYTHING. Well 30 days before the wedding she calls and wants to talk about the bar menu. I had my mother in law call her since my husbands parents were taking care of the bar. Somehow my MIL was under the impression that the venue was giving Marijo a hard time about having liquor. We called the venue they said "what? We don't care what you have." Come to find out Marijo had an issue with one of the specialty requests of a mixed drink. We told her not to worry about he mixed drink request and to just do the original vodka rum and whisky. She gave my stepmother the impression it was okay and also my MIL asked her that her ex husband likes vodka and cranberry, Marijo told my MIL she would keep a bottle behind the bar and give to him. We were confused and thought okay well she can do the Liquor. She never once came out and said "no, no liquor." Then 8 days before the wedding I emailed her to confirm everything and they said NO LIQOUR AT ALL. We were shocked, at this point in NYS we were unable to get another bartender to contract to in order to do the liquor. Once we thought we could get another bartender we asked Marijo if we could get a separate bartender to do the liquor she replied by saying "well then I'll call the state and rescind my beer and wine license" why would you do that?? At this point there was NOTHING we could do about this. My FIL called her and she had the nerve to tell him "this is a celebration of love, not to get drunk" first of all that is not her place to say. You work for us. She never even offered to credit us some money for the inconvenience. Also when my in laws got the bill for the beer wine and champagne... Guess how much?! $2400 for 115 people!!!! That is $21/pp!!! People have been telling me other weddings are typically $8-10pp for alcohol WITH FULL bar including high end liquor! All we had was beer wine and champagne for the toasts!! Unbelievable! THEN she demanded the money for the bar Friday evening, she told my MIL if she doesn't get the money by 5pm we will have no alcohol at the wedding... she even made my MIL cry!! Who the hell is this woman?! My FIL talked to her and she told him that she was the one in charge and she's calling the shots!!! The statement she made twice to my FIL was "I'm in charge so you will do what I say when I say to do it." So then we get to the wedding day.... Marijo tells my wedding planner that she is ready to serve dinner at 6 my planner said no they are entering at 6 then the first dance and so on so dinner will be at 630pm. She gave my planner a hard time, so my stepmother goes in to talk to Marijo and ask what is the issue, and she said to my stepmother that she's not going to take orders from somebody "when I have been doing catering since she was in diapers" We got called up for the food.... NO FOOD. It wasn't ready until 730pm!!! Marijo claims it's because a table of guests came late... So what?!?! Then she wouldn't allow my planner to call the tables to go up she wanted the DJ to do it... The food was decent but tepid. Then she wore these red pepper pants, so unprofessional. Overlooking this whole experience with her she is a horrible business women that does not care about customer satisfaction or rectifying any mishaps for the benefit of the customer. If it were me and I found out I couldn't provide liquor like my client requested I would have called the client the moment I found out and said unfortunately this is the situation but I have phone calls out to others to see if we can contract out a bartender that can do the liquor like you requested. THAT would be good customer service. She just doesn't care. Also tMy whole wedding day was perfect except for her and not because something went wrong on accident she did all of this on purpose. The main thing that we want to take away from this experience is that we hope no one else has to deal with this sort of inconvenience from Marilu's Catering on their wedding day. read more
