Paul supervised a job for me 4 years ago. Did not say much while here but to direct the 4 men he had trimming my tree as was asked of Tree Pros. Two months ago I invited Paul back but was told by John he was not available. John said he would be over within the hour to give a price. I called him back 2.5 hours later and he gave me a story as to why he did not show but would be right over. 30 min later he showed up and this is where the trouble began. John is an asshole. He spoke so fast I thought he was on speed and he wanted to confirm the deal ASAP as he was low on money due to people in Marin being on vacation. We agreed on a price and he was to supervise his crew while the job was underway. When he showed up I got a phone call from my wife stating that she had not only been insulted by John but that he was continually argumetative. John is an argumentative asshole. I called John and with his attempt at reverse psycology tried to calm me down and tell me that my wife was wrong in her observations. I told him to finish the job and to leave my property after a long and heated conversation. I paid the bill the next day and three weeks later the destitute John called and left a message asking for another $20 stating that "if I were a good man I would pay the money"?? Tree Pros I suddenly realized that my beautiful bottle brush and flowering eucalyptus trees, which had grown and formed a mass across the front yard, were a fire ladder, creating a real danger to my home and that of my neighbors! So I called Jon Black at Tree Pros. He had helped us before. He came out the next day, listened to our concerns, made some suggestions, and gave us an estimate. Three days later he came with his equipment and a crew of five. They went to work very professionally and quickly did the job we needed done, removing one bottle brush, trimming another plus a bush by the front door, and taking off some limbs from the eucalypus. Jon suggested removing a few more limbs so as to lessen the danger from windstorms causing downed phone lines, and we agreed. Cleanup was beautifully done and even included some debris not left by the cutting. All was finished in good time. We are safer-- so are our neighbors-- and well satisfied. One reviewer writes: "John is a fast talking, insulting jerk". Don't know about that, but he's rude, inconsiderate, and a liar..... so I bet he is. I talked with him to arrange an appointment to come out to look at a project that I needed to have done. Soon. And I told him as much. He said he'd call me back Friday if not before, and could be out no later than Monday, but he had to check his schedule for the time. I was stupid and waited at home all day on Friday ( I needed the job done immediately ), then even after the SOB didn't call I waited a week, trusting him to call. I'm like that. I trust people. Stupid me. He never called. So I called Tree Masters who are Diamond Certified, EXTREMELY friendly, and have the integrity to do what they say they are going to do and not blow you off as if you don't matter. Unfortunately, my elderly mother fell victim to the price gouging practices of Marin Tree Pros. Jon Black charged her $750 to shape two, small shrub-like trees on either side of her mailbox. This was a $350 job that he chose to more than double in price. Furthermore, he had the gall to ask my mother her age which was completely rude and irrelevant. My initial impression of Jon Black was formed over the telephone and it was not a good one. He presented himself as arrogant, condescending and with a heavy dose of attitude. Based on all of these unflattering and unprofessional characteristics of the owner, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Marin Tree Pros. There are far better options out there. read more

Tree Pros did an outstanding job in terms of creativity, efficiency, and hands on management by John Black. He is as professional and knowledgeable as one could be. We have used several tree firms over the last 35 years but none came up with the ideas to reduce future expenses by cutting back some hedges and balancing out future growth. They also did a thorough clean up and came on time. Another big plus was that Tree Pros fees were below what we've paid over the years. I've been using Tree Pros to trim our trees for over 25 years and my father used them before I did on his property. Jon and his crew have always done an excellent job. Not only to the trees look good but the various cuts were made to maintain the health of the tree. This year they were especially careful to trim and clear with fire safety as first concern. Jon Black arrived with 8 men and not only cleared our entire hillside (he had quoted just "trimming", but also did other work I really wanted done in the yard. His crew is very efficient and we felt that he was more than fair with us when the work was much more than expected. He has helped me so many times- be it big or small- and his fees are beyond reasonable! For example, we had a branch that went down in the last storm. Had Jon and his men out many times to prune our trees. And are always pleased with the results. This time around they purchased and delivered 5 25 gallon magnolias. The trees are beautiful.
