People don't seem to stay in pubs any more. preferring the anodyne ambience of motels. Who knows why - the rooms at the Tumby pub are big, the beds soft and comfortable, and, ok, the bathrooms are down the hall. Wear a towel and take your door key. But the rooms open via french doors onto a wide balcony overlooking the sea - how good is that? There are a few chairs and tables around on the balcony, and it's just the spot to sit back with a coffee in the morning, or with a decent bottle of wine or a beer as the sun sets. Just say no to the tacky plastic wood and noisy toilets of 'motel world'. Vote with your feet and taste buds. If you're anywhere near the Tumby pub, definitely plan a stop. Fill up on fresh local fish and salad and book a room for the night. The best room is the big corner one nearest the beach.

You can arrange for a one hour tour around the factory and see how they receive, process and prepare many varieties of fish. We loved learning about crab, Whiting, Squid, Octopus, Snapper and more. The factory is clean and well run and our tour guide, Kelly, was a great, fun, engaging tour guide. Kelly was passionate and excited and conducted a great tour with passion. Following the tour, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and got to sample many of the various varieties of fish they specialized in. Some of the best fish and chips we have ever enjoyed! Great experience...we highly recommend!

We had an older style ensuite cabin, which was small and old, but very clean and comfortable. The facilities and grounds are clean and well maintained. We made use of the onsite laundry which was very helpful. We did find the WiFi a bit unstable and slow in our cabin.

But I was impressed, this place is very well appointed, just bring your clothes and toiletries, you can hire a towel and bedding comes with the room. First shock, having to make my own bed! But the room and common spaces are ultra clean (according to my sister the cleanest she has ever seen in a hostel). Second shock, shared bathrooms. As we opted for a twin room without bathroom. We did have the entire bathroom to ourselves most of the time, and again, it was super clean, like nobody else has been there. They have a large number of rooms with ensuite facilities! Our room had a fan which kept it cool enough to sleep comfortably in the midst of summer. Staff are very friendly, give you a full tour of the facilities and offer great advise on what to do and see, as well as where to eat, etc. And the ambiance is great, nice murals, replica shark and cage, great photos on the walls of the rooms. There is secure parking, and they organise tours and transfers. Debbie even called me to confirm our stay the day before our arrival and provided advise on how to get there (we rented a car from Port Lincoln airport). Would I go YHA again? Yes, but only if I was guaranteed the same level of service, cleanliness and facilities, although I would opt for a twin with ensuite facilities. Heading to the bathroom in the night and remembering to take my keycard is a bit much to ask for!

We were…read moretaken as part of a tour and as a family of five (2 adults; 3 kids) we loved being close to the animals, the ability to feed the kangaroos, emus, ostrich, sheep, and view the koalas up close. We are a family of animal lovers and this experience was wonderful to be able to have kangaroos eat so delicately out of your hands and play with an interact with so many animals. Worth a visit...very fun outing for 90 minutes or so when in Port Lincoln!
