Parking is $15 via the adjacent Evergreen Cemetery. I arrived past 1 p.m. and there was a line of cars waiting to park. Probably took about 20-30 minutes to do so. Tried most of the food offerings and of course imbibed German golden brew. Nothing food wise was a wow, but the potato salad on the bratwurst platter and the Obatzda cheese for the pretzel are quite good. The schnitzel I got was a letdown. No desserts to be found, as far as I could see, for the peasantry (non-VIP). Prices not terrible, I suppose. Ended up raining heavily later on, so that might have cut down on the crowd a bit. Probably should have checked out the lineup of performances beforehand, which is available online. Didn't really catch much of that. It's not a huge area. Wish there were additional shopping options, perhaps more German goods. Nothing in that regard tickled my fancy. Suppose it's not really about that anyway. I was not enticed to stay more than a couple of hours, however. Friendly, good-natured crowd present. Enjoyable enough, but not in a hurry to return.

Sadly, young people (and by young I mean anyone under sixty to the age of twenty one) don't want to belong to anything any more. They'd rather pretend their lives are glorious on social media. Meh The social events here are great and very affordable. The food is excellent--prepared by the members who obviously take pride. I always liked coming to the dances and seeing the oldsters get their groove on. They have fun and good on them. Leave it to the young party poopers to twiddle their fingers at home. If you volunteer to work Oktoberfest you get some coupons toward free beer and food but truly, it is fun to volunteer because most people you'll encounter there are fun and know how to act decent in public, even when on the lash! HA! The one thing I did not like (it's been a couple of years since I volunteered)--on two occasions I was assigned to work at the bar and sling beer. On both occasions I showed up, asked what to do and after some confusion I was put in those spots and after working them for a bit, someone showed up (not the same person) who was rather rude to me being there and sent me off like a misbehaved child to somewhere else. Um, I was doing what I was told to do and doing very well at it. When I worked the bar the gentleman in charge told the crabby coordinator that I was doing pretty good for a newbie and was happy to keep me on. I ended up slinging beer an hour or so later and that was fun and very busy, making the evening fly by. I really enjoyed it! Later that hat year they treated all the volunteers to a visit to the Dali museum and dinner at the Hofbrau Haus in St. Pete. We even had cocktails on the bus. It was a great time. The next year I was put on beer slinging and again, myself and another volunteer were chased away. I was sent to check IDs but they already had enough people and told me so. I had my tickets for free goodies and debating saying "to hell with this nonsense" and just bugging off to enjoy the festivities without working but I waited and observed and once one of the beer lines looked out of control I jumped in again and helped keep the line moving. This time no one interfered and the people I worked with told me there were happy for my help. (and now, you can't drink beer all day while you work) So yeah, there are members of this club who think they are elite and can treat volunteers like crap and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I joined after the first incident and stayed on but I suspect others do not return because of this attitude problem. And like any social club or fraternal organization, there are cliques and some are rather obnoxious. I made the mistake of falling in with one of them and then feeling heartbroken when I was bluntly informed that I didn't fit in with them after all (they were offended by a fart joke--insert eye roll) so I found a new place to sit at future events and found a nice crew who told the occasional fart joke or two themselves and had some great times with people who knew how to laugh and have fun. So join! You will enjoy it if you go in prepared. If you are part of the leadership of the German American Society you might want to think about how some of your coordinators treat volunteers. Instead of sneering at someone working at the bar perhaps consider saying "I'm so sorry. We're going to have to put you at a different location because of blah blah blah" or maybe just accept that another coordinator already beat you to assigning someone to the bar so your best buddy Hilda, to whom you promised the gig, will go have to work another station for a few hours.

The Women's Club of Winter Park was founded by Mrs. Helen Morse who held the first meeting in her…read morehome, the Osceola Lodge on January 15, 1915. Sixteen women were invited to the first meeting. It is one of the oldest not for profit organizations in Winter Park. Morse served as the clubs first President, Lucy Blackman as Vice President, and Mrs. Hiram Power as secretary. The club met in various places, people's homes, schools, the town hall, and the library. Mrs. Powers formed a committee and began the search for land for a permanent building for the club in 1917. Mr. Charles H. Morse's eventually donated five city lots that had been the first tee of the golf club. WWI delayed construction of a building until 1919 when Percival Hutton was hired as the architect. The final cost of the building was $40,000 paid through donations and fund raising projects. The first meeting in the new clubhouse was on January 21, 1921. The Women's Club was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 4, 1995. The purpose of the club today is the same as when it was founded, to engage in charitable and educational efforts for the residents of Winter Park, to provide scholarships for students attending higher institutions of learning, and to preserve the history of both Winter Park and the club for future generations in the city. I was able to visit the Women's Club for a rummage sale. They also make their historic building available for private events like weddings.

Their kava martini was very tasty and a nice twist on the traditional kava drink I have typically tried. We decided to try their hooka, but unfortunately it fell flat. Having smoked a good handful of hookas in my lifetime, I had a good idea of what should be expected, but unfortunately it disappointing. The hooka did not pull much tobacco smoke and the taste lacked flavor. We communicated our frustration with the hooka but Omar just said to make sure the hose was put on securely, verses trying to remake it or add more tobacco. We had a decent experience, but I would not come back to smoke hooka there, especially with the high price tag of $50 dollars with an added $20 for tobacco refills.

It makes planning a group outing so much easier since everyone can get exactly what they're craving. Whether you're planning a girls' night, date night, or after work happy hour, this is a great spot to keep in mind. I still have a lot more to try, but my first visit definitely won't be my last.

This food hall also has a Foxtail coffee shop, with a donut spot (I think it's Shaka donuts), Pizza Bruno, and fitness and wellness shops. It's a cute spot in walking distance of a larger shopping strip with a Starbucks and other spots. I like coming here to get a bite with Wave, then go to the farmers market. Glad to have a food hall so close to home!

This is biggest model train display I have seen. It is located at Goldenrod Florida. They have…read morepurchased the 1800 Square foot store to put the permanent display of the model train. The place just behind the Autozone. You can join the OSMR for $25 as a member which they meet Tuesday and Saturday. The model was done to the detail that you cannot imagine. The tail range from a dog pee on fire hydrant to massive city view. I particularly the street car touching the electric wire on top entire time while they on track. Not just they are detail but share track on the same time but not running to each other. The mountains, city, port or tunnel was very interestingly layout. The intermodel train station included the rail at bottom and street car on top which is mimic to the current transportation systems. The seaport, train yard, old station, lumber delivery, freight delivery was among the display. One time they have three trains line but the are not conflicting each other in the track or derailed. Amazing. They have this open house every three months. Donations are acceptable. Good to bring children to enjoy the model train.

My friend at Orlando told me about this model rain open house event. It's free and open to the…read morepublic. I was skeptical and thought "isn't model train children's toy?" I was so wrong. When I stepped in the room, I was amazed by the massive scale of the display. Then I looked carefully in each section, there was theme at different corner of the model, the details of scale down from the real object-like buildings, boat, house, people, animals, park, bridge , truck, etc were so true. I felt like the whole town with the residents daily life was right under my eyes. When the trains were moving, the action was quite exciting. The society volunteers were there diligently running the train operation and showing their warm welcome to all visitors. Wow, this place is truly the model train enthusiasts' dream come truth. The open house run once every quarter, on Saturday 10 am -3 pm.

These events run from casual Happy Hour outings to Sunrail Craft Beer outings AND outside of Orlando road trips to breweries. These ladies love to run the map physically and all over Craft beer land from Blonde Ales to Imperial Stouts so if you share in their passion or just want to learn more, these are the get togethers for you! This event has opened my eyes to not only trying beers I never would have tried to checking out spots around town that have a fabulous craft beer offering. I discovered The Thirtsy Topher thanks to these ladies and I also learned of some beers (like the Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen) I don't mind enjoying. But, my favorite event to date was definitely the Cider and Cheese pairing at Oblivion Taproom. Krista P. took us on a journey of amazing ciders and paired them perfectly with cheese, crackers and fruit. Each and every one got better and better as we went along and not only enjoyed, but learned a ton! It was a great setup at Oblivion and just a great time. So fun to watch this community grow! Mission: This will be a space to get to know what other women are doing in the community, and to learn about scotch whisky from the experts. I mean who doesn't want to check this out? As stated in this first meet up, scotch whisky marketing is geared towards men so what other way to learn and stretch your comfort zone with this specific alcohol than to gather with a bunch of cool, local chicks! Kaitlin, the founder of this group, also rocks the craft cocktail scene here in Orlando! She really does have a passion for community and truly understands the liquor/cocktail industry. The first meetup was a huge success; 30 women providing fabulous company, two very different whisky tastings with snacks and hearing from two movers and shakers who rock Orlando: Kaitlin and Gabby Lothrop (Founder of Audubon Park Community Market and the Director of East End Market)! Tow women who truly live and breath my personal motto: If it's something you want and it doesn't exist... Create it! Loved that we were provided notebooks as we entered so we could keep track of the tasting notes and history! We tried Cardhu Scotch - Made in Scotland and the distillery's Scotch whisky makes up an important part of the famous Johnnie Walker blended whiskies. Ardbeg Scotch - Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky owned by Louis Vuitton. Fancy! We also paired some amazing cheese and smoked almonds from La Femme du Fromage with our tastings. Delicious pair!
