He is not interested in helping you have a vaginal birth, or hearing about the research you've done, or answering questions you may have. He might (actually, literally) pat your leg or your head and say something dismissive to reassure you. He may exclaim, "oh let me guess, did you read that on the internet?" while looking at you like you're an idiot. Or he might actually straight up lie (this is the guy who told me, "don't worry, I'm giving you the kind of incision where you can have the next one naturally if you want to" and then, when I was having the next one, said "no way, do you want your uterus to explode?! Once a c-section, always a c-section"). Once, when I got admitted for preterm labor, he actually acted completely irritated with me for getting him out of bed in the middle of the night. Someone I know who works at Homestead Hospital tried to warn me that I would end up with c-sections if I went with him. He was so close, though, and takes every insurance, and blah blah blah. One of my biggest regrets, now that I've been exposed to better doctors, and midwives, is trusting anything he ever said/did. STAY AWAY!!! Unless you absolutely know you definitely need a c-section for some reason, and have an otherwise uncomplicated situation. In which case, take him with a grain of salt, because the man does way better c-sections than most.

He delivered my daughter and remained my personal Dr. I asked him about a C section because I was…read morescared during labor and he calmed me down that he would do what was best for the baby, it ended up as vaginal delivery. He is really warm, kinda funny and makes uncomfortable situations light. Great person and great Doctor.

She talked me through what she was going to do before and explained everything as she was doing it. Very safe environment. Would 100% recommend They had to reschedule me because of an emergency and they called (couldn't get ahold of me), messaged and emailed. They then rescheduled me at my convenience.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE: They could not perform ultrasounds when I went, requiring visits to the associated OB or even the ER in urgent situations. Spent 4 hours and tons of tears in the ER because heartbeat was not detected due to this lack of in-office capability. All my medical concerns and discomfort during pregnancy were repeatedly dismissed and met with "pregnancy is uncomfortable", basically deal with it. This led to missed and delayed diagnoses, including unmanaged levels and late-detected anemia. Insensitive comments about my weight had me feeling body-shamed during pregnancy. I was once asked if I noticed the beautiful thin pregnant patient in waiting room because she was great! During my quick labor and once she actually acknowledged my pain, asking if I wanted epidural, it was too late. At one point, she yelled at me to shut up. My postpartum appointment was impersonal; she did not remember basic details about me and also asked the gender of my child she had just delivered. It was laughed off as she was so busy, how could she remember them all. The associated OB she must work with to overlook her patients, Dr. Cantero, provided rushed, impersonal care. We received quick ultrasounds without much explanation or even time to enjoy the experience. He left the room so fast once, leaving the door wide open while I was reclined half naked in the chair needing help to get up. Worst of all, he incorrectly gave us our baby's gender ensuring he was "99% sure." I still STRONGLY advise choosing a qualified OB over midwifery, especially if complications or health concerns arise. Nelly lacked empathy (possibly the knowledge) and care to send me high-risk help in my situation. With such great reviews on both providers, I felt the need to leave my honest, detailed experience hoping it helps someone. High ratings don't always mean high quality, especially when those reviews lack detail.

He gives me blood pressure meds that lowered my BP. The next day I feel like I am dying, I lose all color in my face. My lips were white, my head felt like it was about to explode. I told my husband "I am dying... I wont make it through the night" so we rushed to the hospital. The ER doctors did blood work on me... come to find out I actually was close to death. My blood count was so low that I could have died at any moment. Thankfully my son was fine. They rushed me to do a blood transfusion. Was in the ER for 18 hrs getting that transfusion. The other ER doctors told me that Dr Shah is very neglectful. His response after all this was "These things happen". My son and I could have died... and "these things happen. He knew I was anemic, he knew my issues and yet never checked my blood. One month later I started having issues again. My water was slowly breaking. I go to his office, he says "youre fine... your water isnt breaking" (mind you I was soaking maxi pads every hour). A week goes by (yes.... A WEEK!) I go to the ER again. Guess what? I had been in labor for a week, my water kept refilling, it was bizarre but my body saved our son. Dr Shah is not a good doctor, he doesnt give a sht about us women or our babies. Btw HE DOES NOT HAVE MALPRACTICE INSURANCE! Ladies, dont go to him please.

But with Dr. Shah's background, it puts my belly butterflies at ease. His staff is on point and appointments are a must. But their quick and efficient. The office is located in the doctors office's portion of the new Homestead hospital. Parking is abundant and security checks you in quickly with photo ID. Now being that this is an OB/GYN there will be a wait period but c'mon, common sense, especially for his specialty takes time and Dr. Shah gives everyone the time and attention they need. I always get nervous for this kind of appointment but he always speaks with you first before entering the "stir ups room" (that's what I call it). Procedure is quick and before you know it you'll be back at the front desk scheduling your next yearly appointment or if your prego, the next OB appt. Dr. Shah and staff do their jobs right!
