Of course I was there to support my daughter so I thought I knew what to expect but this is a really busy place. As you'd expect, the number of people using the pool is reflective of the quality of service and skills of the people involved. My daughter is quite shy and fearful of the water so it takes a special someone to help her feel calm. In all honesty, some staff do this better than others, but I never feel that she is at risk of being 'left behind' in the classes. Even if they let her learn at a slower rate, she is always made to feel part of the class. The only minor issues I have is that there's always a tousle for the seats for the onlookers so once you get one, don't move or someone will snatch it up. Regardless if you have everything you own on the seat to 'keep your place' some one is likely to take it anyway (happened to me today! Grrr!). I was pretty shocked when I heard the price but it does seem to be pretty reasonable when compared to other places. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Blue Dolphin to anyone!

The best thing about Payneham Pool is that you can almost always get a lane to yourself for lap swimming (as long as you don't go during swim carnivals obviously), I like being able to rock up at my leisure and have a lane of my own. This place has enough room for kids and adults to swim and have a good day without fearing for their lives: this is not so much the case at the big leisure centres that are packed with madness and slides. The staff here are really nice (as you don't dive over the lane ropes, don't do that), and there's heaps of shaded grass areas to hang out in. It's a beautiful day and a nice relaxed vibe, dive on in.

I have had heaps of summer holiday days here with friends where the pool gives out fun equipment like inner tubes, beach balls, volleyball nets and floating mats. It's not too busy usually, and there is plenty of outside grass area with some benches to chill out. But bring the sunscreen because there isn't much shade. Now that the aquatic centre had been improved, as well as Marion swimming centre with watersides and more pools etc, payneham doesn't receive much attention, and it could use some upgrading itself.

And it's a good one!…read more They have so may things you can do here so be sure to check out the timetables on different things on their website before you go. As well as the swimming centre with lessons and public times they also have a full gym / health club with creche facilities available. They have an aqua playgroup so you can get your little one acquainted with the water in a much calmer and more constant environment that the beach. They also have 2 of the coolest inflatables that go in the pool which kids and adults love the challenges of alike. They are so much fun for everyone. In addition the recreation centre side of it offers ballroom dancing, netball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, squash, roller skating and something I have never seen offered anywhere else - dodgeball! A friend of mine played netball here and was in an actual team but I know for dodgeball you can just go and they will put you in a team or use a couple of groups to make up a team. The kids think it's great fun, I love the fact it gets out some of their energy! They do some great roller skating events too and on the old school skates with 4 wheels, and no, they are not in one row! So much fun and being a government leisure centre all options here are a LOT cheaper than taking the kids elsewhere.

The centre has a small shop for buying you aquatic gear, a cafe enough space to fit a few hundred kids. Trust me though you'll want to be in the water because swimming centers are by no means fun when your sitting in the humidity. There is also a gym, spa and sauna so really it is the complete package. Not a great place for professional swimming but good for children learning to swim and exercise. Expect to pay around $6 dollars for and adult and $5.20 for kids.

The swimming pool is one of the cleanest in the State, so safe in fact you can drink it...not that you'd want to do it intentionally anyway but it won't make you sick after a few accidental gulps. This summer it will be open Mon - Fri 6.00am - 8.00pm and at $3.00 per entry it's one of the cheapest in SA. The pool is not undercover so slip, slop, slap or at least go when the sun isn't at it's fiercest. Lanes are segregated to cater for swim schools, coaching, lap swimming and for generally having a fun splash. The complex contains many areas such as a health club, creche, shop, etc and the pool itself runs various programs and activities to suit all ages. If this is your thing and you enjoy keeping fit plus live close by then membership is probably the way to go and save some money. Families can join also but be aware the water slides are not included and will cost two dollars to go on each time, so this is one part which will add up quickly! Otherwise, the casual entry fee is reasonable for a brand new complex and if you won't be an active participant there is a $2.50 spectator entry fee. All in all a great complex operated by the YMCA. P.S Despite it being new and all, it is not immune to renegade bandaids, so if you're a bit squeamish best to wear thongs!

As an indoor heated pool no time of year can you use the excuse it's 'too cold'. Slides and playgrounds are targets for children and young families, and there are slow and medium lap lanes for those wanting gentle fitness. The cafe at the front serve a selection if foods more than suitable for lunch at competitive prices, though the coffee is not something I'd get a second time. Plenty of yellow shirted lifesavers patrol giving you a sense that they take your safety seriously.

It's the most fantastic thing I have ever seen at a playground. It's so good to see children with disabilities being included with a special swing even they can use as well as disabled toilet facilities. They have BBQ's, plenty of seating in the shade of the trees and some more seating under a shelter in the centre of the park. Drinking fountains work! Rubbish bins on site as well. Only minor confusion about this park is that there is a doggy bag dispenser in it, I have seen heaps of people walking through here with dogs and there is a sign at the park itself that says dogs not allowed within 2 metres of playground. Yet when I look up the Council's website it says dogs are prohibited on this Reserve. Then why contradict yourselves with doggy bags and signs??????

The 25 metre lap pools are a good depth and wide enough lanes. The diving pool is fantastic for water running and for a more casual swim. The change rooms are clean and well-looked after. The members only change room is smaller and more private, and each cubicle has a soap dispenser, which is handy if you forget things as much as I do. The spas and saunas are great. There are two large spas, which I would go in more often if they weren't mostly filled with overweight old men or kissing couples. Nothing can keep me out of the sauna though. They have a dry and a wet sauna. I frequent the dry sauna, as it is just the right temperature that you can stay in it for a reasonable time. You're sweating like crazy, but it only becomes uncomfortable after about 10 minutes for me, which is longer than I can normally bear it. This is a well planned and set out facility, with plenty of showers and drinking fountains. I only wish I was a lot younger and could play in the kid's pools, because they look fantastic.

Lots of free car parking on site depending on what time of day you arrive and from there a short walk to the front entrance. Surrounded by parklands and the ever so popular Bush Magic playground in Park 2 nearby, is sure to please all family members. Entry prices are reasonable: adults and kids $7.50ea, kids under 3 years of age are FREE, concession $6.00 and there is a family pass of $21 (see conditions). A multi pass can also be purchased if you wish to be a regular. There are three types of swimming pools being main, diving and leisure pools, spa, sauna, gym, steam room and other sessions. Inside is a cafe and swim shop for all your daily needs and especially is you've forgotten something from home ie towels, etc. Every school holidays there are programs for kids to join, a creche for the kids whilst mums and dads get their fix of fitness and birthday parties are also catered for.
