[[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was so fun and the food was good![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We did go for a birthday, we told them upon getting there and reminded them several times before we left, they never came out to sing to birthday boy, they did come sing to other tables. We also had an extremely long wait for food and never got any refills on our drinks. We will give it another try!

I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't the typical Tex Mex style restaurant. They had a lot of seafood options. The entire menu was pretty extensive so it can be intimidating. I ended up getting a California style burrito thats massive. He got one of the mixed meat plates. Everything came out fresh and delicious. The grilled dish he for was a little on the salty side but still a lot more than we expected. Prices on the menu can be intimidating but they are very generous with portions. There are dishes that are over $150 and drinks over $75. The drink menu was also quite extensive. So much that it made us think it was maybe too big and they couldn't put our quality food with so many dishes. We were pleasantly surprised. The only thing I didn't care for was the salsa. The smoked salsa was much better. You have to ask for it. For dessert we got pineapple upside down cake. It was just OK for me. It could have done without the caramel because the cake itself was super sweet. The ice cream helped balance it some. We would definitely try other dishes. It was a pleasant surprise. Staff was friendly and there was plenty of parking. We brought some of the steak home and the pieces in the restaurant were ok but the one's we had today were very gamey and chewy. The only steak I could recommend are the bits on the burrito but not for the large mixed meat plates.

Ceviche was beautifully presented but my co-diners didn't love the flavor. Note also how awkward the booth was.

I was really stuck between 3 and 4 stars because the value of the food and drinks for the price is unreal, the menu is overflowing with options, they have a designated vegetarian section on their menu, and our actual server was lovely. But a few things just didn't hit right and it affected the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First, when you walk in the decor is confused. I was told this was formerly an Applebee's and while a definite effort was made to make it feel different the bones and layout were definitely dated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]In particular, there were no freestanding tables and only booths, which would have been fine except the booths were all 2 or 4 seaters, and we were a party of 6.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was one corner booth that could accommodate more than four people and we asked to be seated there - even though the restaurant was mostly empty and nobody was using it - but the host refused and insisted a 4 person booth was for 6 people. We eventually asked a group of servers if we could move and they said of course so we did and it's a good thing because the food dishes were so huge there is no way we would have been able to get all the food on our original table and our elbows would have been constantly knocking each other. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then the single booth that was large enough to accommodate us was bizarrely shaped like an oval and you had to slide aalllllll the way around the oval to get out, plus the table was too big for the booth on the long sides so some of us ate with the table really close to our bodies.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Honestly this part of the experience put me in a less forgiving mood for the rest of the meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]That may seem like a nitpick but keep in mind that a big selling point of the menu here is large sharable group items, like overstuffed molcajetes and huge party platters. It's a menu designed for groups but they have no comfortable group seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If this were more of a sexy, intimate date space with a menu geared in that direction, I would have less to say about the seating problems. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Additionally the levels and partitions throughout the restaurant made it feel really cramped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was an effort to give it a seafood theme with a fish tank and nautical themed wallpaper, but there were also these rattan light fixtures and fake greenery and pink neon signs everywhere which didn't make sense (one said "cheers") so there was nothing here that made me realize upon entering that it was a Mexican restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The booths were 1970s orange and clashed with everything else. Honestly I would have guessed tiki bar or SE Asian if the name weren't in Spanish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't taste anyone else's food at my table. I didn't get the sense that anything was bad but I also didn't sense that anyone was overly impressed with anything other than just the sheer size of the portions. Everyone felt fine after eating so safety wasn't an issue but I was told the ceviche two others ordered had kind of a strange flavor. I found my meal mediocre. I got the elote appetizer and it was way too creamy/mayonnaisy without a lot of flavor, though it was cute for them to serve it with an individual mini bottle of tajin. I ordered a baked shrimp en cocotte kind of dish in a poblano sauce and, again, it felt too cheesy/creamy without enough kick from the poblano and I don't love shrimp with that much dairy. I love poblano sauce so, while there was nothing objectively wrong with this dish, I was underwhelmed. The shrimp themselves were cooked nicely. My shrimp also came with a slice of garlic bread and a scoop of flavored rice which were both tasty but not the main event. It also came with veggies but the menu showed broccoli which I can't stomach and, to her credit, when I asked the server to sub nopal she didn't blink. The nopal, however, was a whole paddle and it was tart, a little firm for my taste and kind of slimy. Personally I prefer nopales to come in strips and be well cooked and seasoned. This was very bare. All in all I would give this place another shot because the value was great and service was good once we got past the original seating issue. The menu was large and diverse so we barely grazed the surface of their offerings and it may be that there are other stellar items we just didn't get a chance to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But I also would not come again in a group larger than 4 people because of seating limitations, which takes a lot of the funner, higher value group platters off the list of options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would highly recommend this restaurant tear down some of the partitions and get rid of the booths on the bottom tier to make room for movable tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

What my fiancé got vs what he ordered

My fiancé and I were eager to try this new restaurant as we are both seafood lovers. We walked in on a Tuesday night and found it mostly deserted save one or two tables. Our waiter was prompt and attentive. We had heard it was expensive, but were pleasantly surprised to see the only truly expensive menu items were the huge seafood platters, none of which we were interested in. I was excited to see a variety of ceviche on the menu and had a hard time deciding between the various options. My fiancé also had a hard time deciding and eventually settled on the campechana de mariscos (octopus and shrimp, served with rice and tortillas). Both dishes were HUGE and satisfying. For $19.99 I couldn't believe how much ceviche I got. My fiancé helped me eat it, I ate it, and I still took half home. My fiancé's dish came with salad, rice, bread, and a full plate of seafood, also for only $19.99. How anyone could say this place is expensive is beyond me. Now, for the reason for only four stars. My Ceviche Tropical was supposed to have octopus in it and did not, and my fiancé did not get what he ordered at all. He still enjoyed it, but we looked over the menu several times to see if they mistakenly cooked another dish for him and couldn't find anything resembling what he actually got. We chalked it up to them being newly open and needing to work out the kinks, as we visited within their first month of operation. All that being said, we left full and in agreement we will go back.

After decades of being in business, the Applebee's at Valley View Mall recently closed. These types of closings must be contagious as the same thing just happened to the T.G.I. Fridays across the street from said Applebee's. It concerns me when this happens in my community as you end up with dead spaces that remain unoccupied for years. Now, I am in no way attached to the failing-chain businesses that leave, but I desire to see new things make use of their old spots. This is why I'm always thrilled to see decent businesses, particularly local ones, move into these vacant locations. Fortunately, a new restaurant has chosen to take on Applebee's former building. What we now have is Mariscos Nayarit Mexican Restaurant. This place is a seafood-heavy Mexican restaurant with a lot of the expected usuals as well. And so, being curious, my colleague and I tried this eatery for lunch. The hostess and waiter were reasonably attentive, so customer service was a positive overall. For my meal, I ordered the Arroz con Camarón. The shrimp had the perfect texture and softness that is achieved when cooked right. Their grilled flavor was undeniably delicious. The queso poured over the rice was velvety and rich giving the dish a nice touch too. The overall experience was pleasant, but there were two drawbacks that we noticed when we were there. The first one was the prices being a little high, well some menu items were very high, and the second one was the lack of an ABC license. The latter should be resolved soon enough, which will help their business pickup, but the former might be somewhat of an issue with the economy being in the shape it is right now. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but I feel the prices should go down a little. Having said all of this, I think Mariscos Nayarit has potential and I look forward to seeing how they do in the Valley View Mall area.

After hearing from a Mexican friend of mine that Mariscos Nayarit opened its door this Monday, I decided to be one of the first to try it out, and this Friday, I went there for dinner. When I arrived, the restaurant was located in a yellow brick building with a colorful sign high above. Looked nice, but nothing fancy. Same inside. It felt like nice, but nothing great. The host wasn't at all friendly, nor too well organized, as a matter of fact, I detected a lack of training from all the employees, some more than others. I finally was seated and given a menu. I had to ask for the chips and salsa because they weren't efficient enough to bring them out after handing me the menu. The chips were not fresh. They tasted like if they were reheated. And the salsa was too liquidy. The menu had a lot of food pictures, but they looked somewhat artificial. To drink I ordered a pineapple juice and for the main course I ordered the "Mar y Tierra" what in Spanish means "Surf and Turf." It took a long time for the food to arrive to the table. In the meantime I drank the pineapple juice, which was somewhat flavorless and watched as a waiter prepared a Guacamole for a party of two seated in a booth close to my table. I also observed the food delay being experienced by parties from other tables as well. On one table the food arrived at different times, rather than all at once. My order finally arrived. It consisted of a small steak that was more medium well than medium rare, that was how I ordered it, a tiny lobster tail, a baked potato that was mashed and then filled back with some melted cheese on top, a bowl of vegetable, and a slice of bread toasted with butter on top. The steak was soft and juicy but a bit too small for the price of the dish; especially with the tiny size of the lobster. And the baked potato and vegetables were luckwarn. Needless to say that this dish didn't fill me up at the end. The waiter was running around all the time. It seems to me they were short staffed. Since I arrived I tried to address the host and waitress in Spanish and they would answer in English. Like trying to show off that they could speak English. This was very awkward because I not only am of Hispanic Heritage but one of my double majors from College is in Hispanic Language and Literatures. After finishing my main course and waiting for a long time my waiter runs by and tells me that he will bring me the bill. I had to stop him and ask him for the dessert menu which he didn't have but just told me what they had. I asked for the Guava Cheesecake. By the was, most of the tables around me didn't have dessert. Be it they were never asked like me or they were afraid of what the prices would be since there were no dessert menu. I waited and waited and who seemed to be the manager or owner, not sure because he came by but never said who he was, asked if everything was fine. I told him I had ordered dessert and was waiting for it to arrive. I waited and waited some more, and he came by a second time and commented that if my dessert hadn't arrived. And with an amused face I told him it hadn't. Then he went back to the kitchen and after a while, the dessert finally arrived. Then another long wait for the bill, while listening to a guest at another table with his wife and family verbally complaining that if their meal didn't arrive soon they would leave. What a horrible dining experience I went through. As I paid and was leaving the restaurant I had a headache. What a disappointment, especially because I had a high expectation of the place. Yet I should have expected it because before they opened I had sent an email to their email address requesting to know the opening date of the restaurant and they never answered. Because of this horrific experience I don't discourage you to go, just warn you before hand. I hope the ownership and management of this restaurant learn from this review and make the necessary changes that need to be done to turn things around because this place could have the potential to be successful.

The ribeye and shrimp is what I had.

I arrived for an early dinner on a Wednesday late afternoon / early evening. The server arrived with my drink and a welcoming smile and took my order. For apappetizer I ordered the Chips and Choriqueso. The service was superb. My server came by at the appropriate times to check on me and provide refills for my lemonade. I can't imagine how good the Margaritas must be at this restaurant / bar. I highly recommend this contemporary restaurant / bar for a place to go alone, to relax, or with family and friends to enjoy some quality time together in a clean and tastefully decorated Mexican restaurant located in a chick location.

At first it seems like a hole in the wall, where you approach and they take your order and payment. Then you go take a seat either in one of the many tables of the Market Building, that are arranged similar to the Food Courts in the Malls, or in one located in a small outside patio (mostly used during the late Spring and Summer, or when the weather is warm). But don't be fool, this restaurant is more than a hole in the wall or part of a Mall's Food Court. Even though the kitchen and ordering counter is located in a very small space. There is nothing small in the quality of the food nor in the very flavorful cuisine. And their customer service is definitely top notch. They have copies of blown up menus next to a window facing the inside of the Market Building so customers can study the menu well before approaching the ordering counter to make the order. They also have the same thing in the outside seating area patio, which is under a roof. And right above the ordering counter, more blown up menus, as well as regular size menus laying on the counter. But besides all this, they have very engaging employees who are very helpful making recommendations on what to order if you are still undecided by the time you reach the ordering counter. And this is precisely what one of them did with me and I ended up with one of the most amazingly delicious Mexican food that I've ever had in any size restaurant. To drink they have a display case refrigerator with many non-alcoholic drinks to choose from, and a small bar counter where Margaritas are made. To drink I got a Jarritos Mango natural flavor soda. And to eat, I took the recommendation of one of the employees taking my order and ordered the Chessy Tacos Birria, which were made with seasoned shredded pork, and came accompanied by a bowl of consomme to dip my tacos in while eating them, and by little bowls of red and green salsa to put on the tacos if I wanted them more spicy. For dessert I ordered a Flan. Since it is Winter, I had my dinner inside the Market Building, where my server brought it to my table, and followed up at the appropriate times to see if I needed anything and who brought me a napkin holder full of napkins without me even having to ask for it. My server did a nice job providing excellent customer service and establishing a wonderful customer relationship to indirectly invite me to come again to try other items of the menu in the near future. I highly recommend this Mexican restaurant to all those reading my review, when you feel like having some good Mexican food in a lovely and relaxed atmosphere, either indoors or outdoors of a Historic Roanoke City Market Building.

Not long after, my server came by with a smile to see what I wanted to drink. She tried her best to talk to me in English, but when I switched to Spanish, that made her more comfortable and she appreciated my noble gesture. I ordered a Virgen Jumbo Frozen Mango Margarita to drink. While I was enjoying my chips with salsa, and studying the menu to see what I ordered today, they brought the order to the booth next to mine and I was very impressed with the "Steak con Camaron" served on a sizzling skillet. It was a T-bone steak grilled to perfection with plumpy, nice size shrimps. So when my server brought me my drink, I order this dish as my main entrée. I think I've had almost all of the most exclusive entrées on the menu. I invite you to view all of my photographs and videos on the Yelp site to get a better sense of its fresh and delicious food, as well as the photographs and videos I took today, accompanying this review. Just so the steak doesn't overcook and become tough, I would advice you to place it on the plate they give you with rice and refried beans, soon after it arrives on your table. The flavor was delicious, and the melted cheese on top of the plumpy shrimps also gave them this amazing taste. While I was enjoying my dinner, the restaurant manager came by to say hello. As a regular here, it was nice to be acknowledged and appreciated by the manager, and I believe this is an important aspect of an extraordinary dining experience. For dessert I had their Churro Cup. It is a cup made with the churro dough, filled with vanilla ice-cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup and a cherry. It was amazingly delicious and the perfect ending to an exemplary dining experience.

And genuinely caring about your customers is something that is lacking in many restaurants and should be top priority in the selection process of their employees. Moe's first started in Atlanta, Georgia in the year 2000 and the letters of their name stand for "Musicians, Outlaws, and Entertainers." They celebrate the unconventional. With the belief that you don't achieve greatness unless you "stir the pot." This Moe's Southwest Grill is conveniently located in the Bridges Shopping Center, next to the South 6 Apartments at the Bridges. It is housed in a beautiful, modern red brick building with their restaurant sign high above in yellow, red, and black colors. High above their two glass door entrance thete is another sign that reads: WELCOME TO MOE'S. Once one steps inside, a sound is heard and all their employees with a big smile shout "Welcome to Moe's." The interior design of the place has exposed black ceiling, large yellowish tile floors and lots of orange and red colors to help create a happy dining experience. It also has lots of windows all around their interior brick walls with posters featuring AUGMENTED REALITY (AR), which can be experienced via the Moe's Rockin' Rewards app. On the right side of the restaurant there is a low wall that goes all around and in front of the ordering counter to lead the way to the large menu on the wall and then to the counter where you tell their employees what you want and you watch them make it right before your eyes. I ordered The Stack with Grilled Steak as my protein and many other items along the way. I invite you to view my photographs that accompany this review. I made it a Meal and got a side of Queso and a Regular Drink. By the way, the Chips are free with your meal, they are made fresh daily, and are thin and crunchy. They also have a complimentary Salsa Buffet, where you can get a number of salsas to go with your chips. And if this wasn't enough, their drink machine is one of those where you can choose an already known drink or make your own by adding many flavors. I found this restaurant to be a clean, lovely place to enjoy a Mexican meal in a happy and fun environment. And I highly recommend this restaurant for it's uniqueness and friendly service, as well as for its variety and quality of food.

I've always enjoyed a good Burrito from Chipotle Mexican Grill. All their ingredients and products…read moreare so fresh, made and cooked daily. Their employees are well trained in food handling and in the times they need to wash their hands and change their gloves. As a matter of fact I like them so much that I own Chipotle Stock in my Investment Portfolio. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And the Chipotle Mexican Grill at Towers Shopping Center, located in Southwest Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. I currently have 12,838 Reward Points from Chipotle reflected in my Chipotle app. Most of the time I order delivery from this store location. But today I happened to be in the area and decided to go eat there in person. Their restaurant is located on the right of T-Mobile at Towers Shopping Center. This place has been totally renovated since the time it was built and all the stores there are very clean and presentable. They are in the right corner of the strip mall in a modern building painted yellow and white, with bright red window frames color. The interior design of the restaurant has nice contemporary furniture and lighting. As one enters through the main door on the left side, one walks all the way back until one reaches the counter and tell the employee there the entrée they want, the protein, the ingredients included, and the extra ingredients that are Guacamole and Queso Blanco. There was one customer in front of me and I took a look of the menus high above and some enlarged photos advertisements of some of the items. When the server came back and asked me what I wanted. I told him a Braised Beef Barbacoa Burrito. He heated the large tortilla to make the burrito and started asking me what I wanted on it. Starting from the white rice and black beans, then the protein that I ordered was the Beef Barbacoa, the mild sauce and the one with corn, graded cheese, and sour cream. He was wearing gloves as he handled the Burrito and was very generous with the portions. When he started folding the Burrito, it was so loaded that it cracked, so he asked me if it was alright if he put another tortilla over the first one. I agreed and he did a great job folding the Burrito. Then he wrapped it in an aluminum wrap and put it inside an orange plastic baske. By this time we had reached the cashier who asked me what I has so she could price the order, I included a fountain soft drink. I had her scan my app so I would get my Rewards points for this meal and paid with my credit card. The cashier lady employee was very friendly and nice, even though she was wearing a mask. I found this a little strange because Chipotle Corporate now has paid sick leave to encourage employees to stay home when I'll. It also has come up with their Food Safety 7, a system of seven key protocols for preventing foodborne illness, encompassing Work Healthy, Work Clean, Keep Produce Safe, Cook it, Keep it Hot/Keep it Cold, Maintain Sanitary Conditions, and Call for Help. These guidelines are a core part of the company's overall enhanced food safety program, which also include rigorous supplier standards, and enhanced internal training. I took my Burrito and paper cup and sat down at a table in front of the softdrink machine after getting some ice and Root Beer. The Burrito was real Fat, sort of contradicting those customers that are saying that they are making them smaller. And it contained lots of protein and other ingredients. It was truly amazingly delicious. The only thing that prevented me from having an excellent dining experience was that I noticed that the Organic Lemonade and Agua Fresca dispensers were dirty, empty, and not cleaned nor replenished. Also that the floor of the seating area next to me was dirty, and they didn't have anyone cleaning the restaurant after the customer. The dirty floor detracted from the beautiful contemporary decor of the place and ruined the perfect dining experience. I hope Corporate and management reads my review and immediately corrects this, for it is one of the only reason I didn't give it a 5 Stars review.
