The restaurant's front architectural design with some extra outdoor seating.
    Manuel M.

This is a lovely family-owned restaurant located in Keagy Village, a relatively new and modern strip mall in Cave Spring, Virginia. Even though there are several Tacos Rojas around, each one is owned and operated by a different family member, with the same menu, but slightly different ambience and decor. What I liked about this restaurant was the modern yet simple exterior architectural design, and small but warm and cozy interior. Its location is also very beautiful, where from the back window you can see a beautiful landscape surrounded by mountains. A friend and I decided to go visit this restaurant for an early dinner the day after 5 de mayo and overall we weren't disappointed. We were fortunate enough to have been greeted and welcomed by the owner himself who was very friendly and kind. We sat at a table near the back of the restaurant and at the time were the only customers there. A basket of Tortilla Chips and Salsa was brought to our table and they were very fresh and delicious. My friend ordered a dish with two Chimichangas, one beef and one chicken, and I ordered the Carnitas Burrito. The food was very good and my burrito was humongous, although its temperature was somewhat lukewarm and this detracted from its flavor and rating for this restaurant. There is no reason for an empty restaurant to be be serving lukewarm food. For dessert we both had a slice of their Flan, which had the right consistency, flavor, and temperature. Overall this was a very clean and cozy restaurant, with a small bar, in a beautiful location, with an appropriate decor, serving quality Mexican food. If the manager listens to my constructive feedback and takes action, I would no hesitate in returning and highly recommending the restaurant for its food and great service.

It's great to find a family run place in our new town! The place was bright and colorful but comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was really great! Very flavorful. Coming from Cali, I felt they were a little light on the seasoning. But that's likely about catering to local tastes. The servings were huge! Great value for the prices. I had 2 more meals from my leftovers. We'll definitely be back for more!

Incredible! I took a half dozen coworkers here for a lunch and really enjoyed the food, service and outdoor seating. Tacos Rojas is the real deal. Authentic Latin food that tastes great. I had the Tacos Pastor and a Mexican Coke. It was so good that I can't wait till my next visit to Roanoke so I can come back. The tacos were served with a salsa roja that is nice and spicy. The outside seating was pleasant and our server stayed on top of things. Everyone in my party had a lively conversation with great food. Success!

Dropped in for lunch because of the reviews and pics on Yelp. It was chilly out side so I ordered Pisole'. It was the best I've ever had from a restaurant. Of course homemade is homemade, but this was great. I watched the plates coming to other tables an knew I'm coming back to try another dish. Oh, and COVID cleaned when customer left their table. All the staff wore masks. Definitely a place to try if you haven't been here.

    Healthy chicken soup!

Cute taqueria in downtown Roanoke! Indoor and outdoor seating. This is a great place to meet up with friends. Right across the street there is a cute bookstore. The service is quick, Portion sizes are HUGe! So come ready to eat. Get the chicken soup that's filling if you want low calorie.

My husband took us to El Costeño Mexican Grill." This triggered a desire to go try it out. She also told me, and our server later confirmed, that the owners were from Veracruz, Mexico. After doing some research I found out that Veracruz cuisine is known for its unique blend of indigenous, Spanish, and Afro-Caribbean influences resulting in a rich and flavorful mix of flavors. So with this background, you can imagine why I immediately made plans to go have dinner there with a friend who also appreciates good Mexican cuisine. When we arrived to the restaurant on Peter Creek Rd NW Roanoke, Virginia, it was located in a small strip mall of two businesses shared by a gas station. Yet surprisingly it also had a brick outdoor patio dining area as well, with outdoor seating. Inside, the restaurant was clean and organized, simple decor, some very unique style framed Mexican paintings on its walls all around. As soon as we entered a young lady host came out and gave us a warm welcome with a big smile and took us to one of the tables to be seated and gave us a copy of the menu. Our server, a young, friendly lady greeted us, brought us a basket of tortilla chips with a couple of bowls with salsa, and took our drink order. To drink we both just had Iced water, although they had a variety of softdrink, beers, and Margaritas. The Chips were fresh, thin, and crispy; and the salsa tasted amazing. Their menu was full of authentic Mexican food, including, super burritos and fajitas, as well as their famous mole sauce. All at reasonable prices. For appetizer we ordered the Queso con Chorizo. To eat my friend ordered the Super Burrito, and I ordered the King Burrito. The Chorizo of the appetizer was the Spanish Style with is richer in flavor and the Queso was soft and yummy. Best appetizer of its kind I've ever had. My friend's entrée looked wonderful with Mole on top. And he said it tasted like heaven. My King Burrito looked great with the melted cheese as well as the guacamole on top, and tasted amazingly delicious, filled with quality ingredients seasoned and cooked wonderfully. For dessert we both had a Churro Bowl that also was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for the comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, amazing, genuine Mexican food, and extraordinary service.

After I found out from a Mexican friend of mine that it just had opened a few days ago, I immediately made plans to go visit and try it out. And what I discovered by doing so far exceeded my highest expectations of the restaurant. I arrived at the restaurant on a late afternoon, after quickly finding it with the help of its exterior bright yellow color and colorful restaurant signs: one in front of its front patio dining area, and another high above on the building itself. The restaurant has a parking lot for the convenience of its customers, and the main entrance is through a door on the right side of the building. As one enters its door, one can't help but notice the cleanliness of the place, which its interior design is in the minimalist decor, with walls painted golden-yellow, black ceiling, with black furniture, and imitation cherry wood hardwood floors. No wall nor other decorations. Its elegance is reflected in its simplicity of decor and in the beautiful bar glassware with thick quality glass and blue highlights, displayed on the bar shelves with mirror background. Next to the bar located in back of the restaurant are a pair of rotating doors that lead to the kitchen. As soon as I entered the door of the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by the host who gave me a warm welcome, asked me to pick the table of my choice, and handed me a copy of the menu and took my drink order of a glass of Iced Orchata non-alcoholic drink. Then my server, Ruth came by, warmly greeted me, answered some questions of the menu I had, and took my order. By the way, the menu had a great selection of familiar Mexican food items and some unique ones as well. As appetizer I ordered Tortilla Chips with Guacamole dip. As the main entrée I ordered the Molcajete. I invite the readers of this review to view my photographs of the menu and of the food enjoyed for a more detailed picture of my food. After all, it is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. The food was amazingly delicious. In presentation, quality of items, seasoning, and cooked to perfection. Simply, a Mexican culinary delight. For dessert, I ordered the house Tiramisu. Amazing, from a Mexican restaurant. In conclusion, I highly recommend this one of a kind Mexican restaurant. This family-owned business has it all to receive a Five Star review. Entrepreneurial owners with very creative imagination and wonderful personalities. I was able to chat with them before leaving. A distinguished yet relaxing ambiance. Wonderful menu. And excellent customer service. All together contributing to an extraordinary dining experience.

But this is not your typical Mexican Restaurant After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Tequila's Mexican Grill in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. A Hispanic family-owned restaurant business, interestingly enough the owner is not Mexican, but Honduran. But is a connoisseur of the New Mexican cuisine and has had restaurant experience by having two restaurants like this one in North Carolina. Their menu is the most creative menu that I have ever seen. It not only contains items of authentic Mexican cuisine, like the usual Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas, Fajitas, and Enchiladas, but other items that do don't expect to find in a Mexican Restaurant menu as well, such as Empanadas appetizer, Fried Rice, Vegetarian & Vegan items, and a Special section entitled Mixed containing items such as Churasco, Chori Steak, El Paisano, and Ranchero Especial, to name a few. With their dessert menu they include items like Chocolate Lava Cake, and their Special Flan is not only covered with roasted caramel but with chocolate syrup as well. Their Tequila menu contains some very original ones such as Zorro and Tropical Mango. Their bar menu contains some amazing cocktails besides the typical Margaritas, Tequilas, Beer and Wines. They have drinks like Sex on the Beach and Bahama Mamas. They also have a nice selection of Martinis and Mojitos as well as Liquors. But besides excellent food, the ambiance of the place is such that once you step inside the restaurant you immediately feel right at home. The interior decor is not extravagant like in many Mexican restaurants but is comfortable with an air of distinction. Even their booths are elegant and at the same time very comfortable and relaxing. A perfect ambiance to enjoy wonderful food and drinks. And last but not least their employees are the best. They have a mixture of selected people from Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala, just to name a few, whose primary focus is to serve, so that you have an extraordinary dining experience. When I arrived a young gentleman host greeted me with a friendly smile and a warm welcome, taking me to a booth of my choosing next to a window so I had proper lighting to photograph my food and document my dining experience. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review for a better sense of the food and the atmosphere of the place. Soon right after I sat down along with the menu, my server a young lady, came by, introduced herself and took my drink and appetizer order and gave me more time in order to choose my main entrée out of the great variety of items found in the menu. To drinkI ordered a non-alcoholic Jumbo Mango Daiquiri. And as appetizer I ordered the Choriquso to go with my Tortilla Chips and Salsa, which by the way, were some of the best I've ever had in a Mexican Restaurant. I invite you to view the video clip of my sizzling Choriqueso appetizer: Grilled Mexican sausage with melted cheese. It was amazingly delicious! For my main entrée I ordered the Churrasco from the Mixed section of the menu: A 10 oz. Skirt Steak with Fried Plantain topped with diced Shrimp and Pico de Gallo, and served with rice. I love rice, and this rice was amazing. The Fried Plantain was gigantic. The Shrimps were plumpy, very tasty, and plentiful. I had asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare but it was cooked extremely well done and dry. I feel this took away from the tenderness and natural juices of the meat. So when my server came to see how I was doing I mentioned this to her and asked to see the manager. She very gracefully agreed with me and went to get the manager. The manager was very kind and blamed the cook for not following directions on how to cook the meat and offered to have him cook me another steak. I accepted her offer and this time the steak came out perfect. It was tender and juicy, and its juices made it flavorful. I was extremely content in the way the manager handled the situation and saved my otherwise perfect dining experience. For dessert I ordered the Fried Ice Cream. A picture is worth a thousand words so I invite you to view my photographs and video clip of it and judge for yourself. It was amazing, and the perfect Grand Finale of an extraordinary dining experience. I highly recommend this new and innovative Mexican Restaurant, a welcomed addition to our community culinary scene.

Located at the Brambleton Center, an elevated development in Cave Spring, Virginia, that also includes the Virginia Co-Op Extension, a Recreation Center, and The Bridge Church Roanoke, it is by far their largest restaurant in this area if one includes its extensive outdoor dining area with a solid beautiful gazebo with an amazing view of the surrounding mountains. After driving in my pearl white Lexus up the hill, I parked in their parking lot in the back and walked around the wraparound porch of their building until I found the entrance. But before I went inside I walked around their extensive outdoor dining area with beautiful views. Once inside a friendly gentleman at the Host's station greeted me and showed me to a comfortable booth next to a window in the bar dining area of the restaurant. The perfect location to be able to capture photographs of their food in natural light. Afterwards I visited their main dining room which was already almost full in the late afternoon / early evening. After I was seated, Freddy who had served as my host, would also be my server. I ordered a large Virgin Mango Margarita to drink, which looked wonderful and tasted marvelous. I enjoyed munching on their basket of Tortilla Chips after dipping them in their red and white salsa as well. Few Mexican restaurants serve the white salsa. For my main meal I ordered the Carnitas, which contained tender chunks of pork and their photo in the menu made them look so good. They came with rice, beans, guacamole salad, pico de gallo and flour tortillas. I drank my Mango Margarita and enjoyed my chips with salsas while I waited and it didn't take long for my main entrée to come out. It looked delicious: both in quality, quantity, the way they were cook and presentation. All of a sudden, after just taking a taste of these carnitas, this restaurant had become one of my favorites Mexican restaurants. My server did an excellent job checking on me to see if everything was all right and check if I needed anything. The amount of food was so generous that I asked for a container to take some home with me. For dessert I had a Flan and it was also large and delicious. The prices were so reasonable and the amount of food so generous and good, not to talk about the exceptional service, that I made sure to leave a good tip when I paid with my Harvard Alumni World Mastercard. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Mexican restaurant for such an extraordinary dining experience that I had today and look forward to returning many times more.

Many times my friend and I had driven by this restaurant wondering how it would look inside and how the food would be. From past experience Mexican restaurants were either amazingly good or unfortunately poor. So today we decided to go and try it out. No longer would it be a mystery to us. We had no idea of how the ambiance would be inside, nor the customer service, nor the quality of the food. We arrived around 4:45pm for an early dinner on a Tuesday late afternoon. The outside architectural design of the building was full of arches, hence the restaurant's name of "Los Arcos." It had a nice outdoor patio dining area surrounded by a low wall full of upside-down arches. Since it was a record high temperature day, there was no one dining outside, but the area looked nice with each round iron table having a large red umbrella to protect customers from the sun. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted and immediately taken to our table and given copies of the menu. The menu was very well organized with subject tabs and color photographs of their most popular items. When our server came by to take our order, we both ordered iced water to drink and as our main meal my friend ordered the Enchiladas Mixtas and I ordered the Burrito Jalisco with grilled steak rirfrom the Specialties of the House page of the menu. As we waited for our server to arrive with our meals, we munched on the complimentary Chips and Salsa. The chips tasted good although they didn't look that fresh and the salsa looked nice but tended to be on the hot side, with no mild available. When our food arrived, my friend enjoyed his. Mine had missing the pico de gallo side. The chorizo was very tasty as it should be, but I question the steak quality. Not that it was hard or brittle, on the contrary, I felt that it was too soft and spongy. It was seasoned right with lots of lemon juice, but it's texture left a lot to be desired, especially to me who am a steak connoisseur and afictionado. The side of rice was a bit dry and lacked freshness. The dessert menu selection was a very good one, and their photographs made them look so good, yet they were the greatest disappointment of our meal and dining experience. We both ordered Churro Cups. By now the restaurant was almost half full, but this was no reason for the time to prepare and serve our dessert to have taken longer than to serve our food. Then the crust of the Churro Cup was overcooked and hard. By hard I mean I was not able to cut it nor eat it. Yet it looked so good that you would have never imagined that it was inedible. I even asked for a knife to cut it and was unsuccessful. I asked one of the servers for the manager and he told me there was no manager, that he was out until 6:00pm. So I was not able to complain about the dessert or have it comped. The menu of this Mexican restaurant is amazing but I find that the quality of the food and execution of cooking them is lacking from the part of the cooks there. And the absence of a manager on the premises is questionable. For this reason and for the problems I encountered with my meal there, I don't think I will return, especially with so many good Mexican restaurants around. It's a pity because otherwise this restaurant has the potential of being a great one.

In a little house on a short street in Salem, Virginia, one that if it were not painted a bright…read moreorange color, would simply go unnoticed, is housed one of the smallest restaurants that I have ever seen. Yet we must not let its size deceive us, just as we should not judge a gift by its size nor a book by its cover. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Tacos Coronados in Salem, Virginia, is the perfect example. After driving by this Mexican little restaurant the other day on my way to Gusto Pizza for dinner, I thought to myself, "It is in small hole in the wall places like this one that one finds amazing food. I definitely need to return soon to try it out." And today is that day. I set my Lexus GPS to their address and started driving their way, encountering a torrential rain along the way, only being able to see a bright orange spot when I arrived. I decided to wait in my car for a while listening to music. As the rain resided and I was able too see the Mexican restaurant, the first thing I did was take a photograph of it from inside my car, since small drops of rain were still falling from the sky. Once inside, I noticed the place was also painted the same bright orange color, had a counter were To Go orders were taken and picked up, and a modern computer cashier where orders were paid. But what impressed me the most was the cleanliness of the place, and how very organized it was, with well use of space for five booths that each could seat four persons comfortably. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its food. A friendly gentleman came out from the back to greet me and gave me a warm welcome. He appreciated very much that I spoke Spanish and talked to me about the restaurant and its menu. Most of their business is for Take Out orders, but on some days and times it can get full with dine-in customers. One thing that caught my attention was that Chips and Salsa were listed in the menu under Appetizers for $4.50. Afterwards I did my research and found out that Chips and Salsa is not a traditional complimentary offering in Mexico. It is considered an American Tradition. And that some restaurants make it a point to serve high-quality chips and salsa, justifying a charge for them. I ordered a bottle of Orange Fanta to drink and a Gorditas al Pastor (with Pork) Special to eat. Their appetizers in the menu were limited to Chips and Salsa, and Chips and Guacamole. And they had no dessert items. However, they did have Taco Tuesdays, when Pork or Chicken Tacos are $2 each. This was the first time ever that I have had gorditas but my server explained that they were a traditional Mexican street food consisting of a thick masa (corn dough) cake that is fried, then slit open to create a pocket and stuffed with various fillings like cheese, shredded meats like carnitas (pork), beans, and vegetables. Their picture sure looked good on the menu. The name "gordita" means "little fat one" in Spanish, referring to its plump, thick shape. They were crunchy and tasty, full of flavor. I definitely enjoyed my meal of genuine Mexican street food, highly recommend the restaurant for a very unique dining experience with genuine Mexican cuisine and an extraordinary customer service.
