Marjorie is Magic! This is not an overstatement. If you are here reading this, then like me you are looking for an apartment in one of the toughest rental markets in New York. It's brutal to say the least. And I was where you are just a few months ago until I met Marjorie. After talking with her and letting her know my needs and checking in with her...after asking of course...she connected me to the apartment that's just right for me at this stage of my life. If it hadn't been for Marjorie, I'd still be looking for a place right now. If you are looking for a realtor with her pulse on the neighborhood...look no further..but be nice and respectful and appreciate that she is trying hard to help people find homes during a tough time. We cannot say enough good things about Marjorie. My boyfriend and I wandered into her office on a Friday morning, panicked after our last apartment had fallen through. By Tuesday, we'd signed a lease on our dream apartment. Marjorie worked so hard for us, sent us down to our current apartment after calling the landlord (who she has known for years), and guided us to ensure our application was perfect. At one point, our documents had somehow wound up in her spam folder, and Marjorie called us to check in and make sure we'd sent them because she wanted us to have the apartment! I called this agent about an apartment listing, and the unit was already rented. That was fine, but days after I spoke with her, I started getting spam calls like CRAZY! I finally answered one and it was from Spectrum trying to sell me service. I was already a customer of theirs, so that was very odd. So I asked the guy what name did he have listed. And he said MAJORIE THOMPSON!!! WTH?!?!?! When I asked him how he got that name, he didn't want to tell me and he got very rude. So apparently this woman sells your information to telemarketers. I hate writing reviews. I just called the real estate office at 6:27 p.m. today. I asked if they had any one bedroom apartments, Now before I continue i have know Marjorie for yearss, When you was working with Lincoln . You would have to see my face Marjorie......So the lady told me she has plenty of One bedrooms quoting at $2,000 and Up. None in my price range of course, I tried to ASK QUESTIONS like when will you have... The woman is talking over me and hangs up on me in the middle of my question. I guess me asking about rent starting at $1,500 was a turn off and that's still high rent.... I really hope it wasn't Marjorie i was talking to and if it was her staff, the customer service skills suck. Anyway one of my other questions was going to be is majorie in. I called right back and no answer... Just rude! I never judged the business but now I have to agree on somethings. Marjorie Thompson is a crooked realtor who has dozens of lawsuits against her. Just Google her name. She also sues people in small claim court for the kick of it. That's the kind of person she is. My personal experience with her was not the worst I've read, she "only" took a huge credit fee from my husband and I for an apartment she had already rented to someone else. When I found out and emailed her about it, she sent me an email she has probably sent to hundreds others before me, threatening to sue me for slander if I ever went public (the dum dum doesn't know I have like 8 email addresses, she will never find me). I could tell from the tone of the email and the swift response that she is used to sending this kind of emails. She probably even copied and pasted it from her own message threads. She does her job once in a while (you can refer to the few 5 star reviews for that) but most of her time and money is spent/made by screwing people over. Do yourself a favor and go to other Crown Heights realtors, or even Craigslist. Nothing is worth dealing with this horrible woman. read more

I wouldn't give her any star if I had an option. Be careful if you want to rent an apartment from her. She might not give you your full amount of security deposit back. She doesn't care if payment of rent fee is delayed due to a snow storm. She will charge you the late fee FOR SURE. It was the worst experience that I rent the apartment from her. Make sure you keep all the legal documents, keep all the evidence that you paid the rent or security deposit. You might need all these to sue her later on. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!! although she was kind and had good vibes she nearly rented us an apartment that was reviewed on this site as having a terrible bed bug infestation, leaking ceilings and a management company that is nothing less than terrible who does nothing to fix those issues. granted, we never asked explicitly, but she showed us the apartment and then walked out, heading back to her office a few blocks away to let us decide on our own. the apartment was large, appeared clean and had a very regal feel to it. we would have never expected what we found on yelp, which was terrifying... before signing the lease, we confronted her, letting her know we would not be moving forward because of what we found online. she acted off-put, albeit professionally and politely insisted the fee for our "background checks" which she promptly ran the day we informed her we were not moving forward. this seemed a bit weird, but whatever. though she didn't do anything downright WRONG the entire circumstance left me with a bad feeling. I'm sure she has upheld her end of the bargain with hundreds if not thousands of renters, otherwise she wouldn't have a nice storefront on Washington, but as I said before...BUYER BEWARE!!!! read more

Marjorie was the broker in charge of selling the apartment I bought. She was very fair, straightforward and easy to deal with. She answered all the questions we had and helped us close the deal. Real estate in New York is business at the end of the day, and although there are plenty of emotions that go into buying and renting property one has to remember that. Marjorie is an absolute delight. As a broker, she is honest and real, knows her clients (both landlord and lessee), and she truly works to make all sides get their needs met. As an individual, she is also lovely. Marjorie prefers to communicate by phone, but don't be deterred by this, as she really gets shit done and moves quickly. Attempted to have a conversation regarding a contract that the number did not match our current agreement. Marjorie did not allow me to speak and neither did she clarify what was on the contract. I put in an application with her husband on an apartment that fell through. We had agreed on a one month fee, and with covid, that's fair. No big deal, but I had only a week to find a place. I agree to take another apartment even though it wasn't finished, which he promised would be done and when I moved in it was not. Why wasn't that communicated with me beforehand? The bathroom sink is unusable. Also, he told me it's his "colleague's" listing and she charges 12% but he could get her to do 10%. How nice of him. I agree because usually that means the brokers need to split it. I find out later that by colleague he meant his wife!! These people are shady af. He lied to get the fee we agreed on to be more than Im in a position to spend. And there's another apartment in the building listed by another realtor as "no fee" so watch out with her, she double dips. She can loose her license for that. Oh, and it's been over two weeks and they still haven't gotten me a signed lease. Her husband told me she doesn't have a cell phone? Who are these people? Don't do business with this person. Most of her listings are also available through other realty companies around the city which are actually legit. Go through anyone but her. read more

Truly horrible experience. Turned off heat in the middle of December so I didn't pay rent, she opened my door without notice (illegally) and started yelling at me. Beyond unprofessional, I'm stunned she is still in business. Attempted to evict me the next month. I left and while I was still getting the items out of my apartment she had men in there painting while I was still under lease. Truly awful and the worst rental experience. Beware. Also she had workers in the hallway of the building who would work illegally on the weekend and leave plaster dust an inch thick outside my door. A total health hazard. I moved to New York at the beginning of the month to start a new job and had trouble finding a rental apartment that would accept my application, since I'm a Canadian without a U.S. credit record. After three weeks of apartment hunting on Craigslist, I was frustrated with the number of fake or exaggerated listings by brokers, and the difficult finding owner-listed apartments in Brooklyn. I was referred to Marjorie by a friend who had worked with her recently, and on my first phone call with her, she was able to schedule me in to view an apartment that was within my limited budget. I had met a few other New York brokers during my search, and Marjorie was the most honest and helpful. She told me upfront that the apartment was small, and, having looked at some REALLY small apartments in the last few weeks, I was actually pleasantly surprised when I saw it. Marjorie took the time to also show us an apartment on the lowest floor that she'd just found a tenant for, and it helped me appreciate the higher rent on the one I had viewed. When I submitted my application, I made sure she knew that I was Canadian, and from the way Marjorie spoke to the landlord on the phone I noticed that she was very familiar with him. I eventually found out that the owner only lists through her because he trusts her referral of applicants, and in my case it was a huge advantage because I never would have been able to find such a cheap rental in Park Slope otherwise, and no other broker had been able to convince an owner to rent to me without an American guarantor. The whole process (application and lease signing) went very professionally and it was comforting for a newcomer to New York because I could tell she was following all the steps and not leaving anything out. Marjorie also has an amazing memory, is extremely organized and talks to people on a familiar first-name basis. My boyfriend thought her office was super cute and the decor felt really homey, and I felt much more comfortable with Marjorie than I did with other brokers because of the straightforward, relationships-based mom-and-pop feel. I found her much more trustworthy than the big-name real estate agencies, and I would take advantage of her well-established owner/landlord network in Brooklyn again in an instant. read more

Marjorie helped me find an awesome apartment at a great price without much fuss. I had replied to a craigslist ad for an apartment, which Marjorie showed me. I liked it, but the owner didn't allow cats. Instead of just having a "well too bad" attitude like so many brokers I'd dealt with, she showed me another apartment that wasn't listed yet. It was even better than the first, at a great price and on a great block. We got the paperwork done, and everything went smoothly. Now that I live nearby, I pass Marjorie all the time, and she's always friendly and free with a smile. I also found Marjorie to be friendly, honest, and professional. When you look for an apartment, you are in search of a new home. A roof over your head. A place to love and feel safe at. Marjorie doesn't care about that. Her aloof, apathetic vibe is not just a vibe. It's who she is. Marjorie will show you apartments but NOT work further than that with you. She sits on her ass in her office and doesn't do ANYTHING. She charges you a 15% fee and asks you to print and scan your own documents. And when you tell her you are busy because you are working 20 hours in the next two days, she starts pouting and just flat out ignores you and lies to you to make you go away (in our instance, she told us the application was not a good fit for the landlord. Bullshit. We have been approved for more expensive apartments since then and in the past. She NEVER even opened the documents I sent to her. She told me herself it was too big and too long and too much work). Don't work with her. Save your money and RUN AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. read more
