Dr. Kaul was very patient and comprehensive in his review of my records. I'm confident that I will…read moreremain as a patient for sleep apnea and other pulmonary concerns. His nurse and administrator were also top notch.

Doctor is wonderful, his staff is totally obstructive…read more (sorry, but this is long...) I arrived for initial consult - staff handed me a 10 page form to fill out. It is all duplicates of what is in electronic medical record (MyChart, Martin Memorial). I asked if they had access to MyChart, was told yes. I asked if they could print out at least my list of meds. (15 meds). They said "you didn't bring them?". I said I was surprised, since they were in the electronic record, and nobody had said for me to do so, I would have brought a printed out list! If I knew they had this questionnaire, I would have picked it up days before and brought it in completed. I have macular degeneration, need magnifying glass to read their forms, which are illegible photocopies. I have peripheral neuropathy, I have to type, my writing is spastic. Took me 45 minutes but I filled them out best as I could. Dr Kaul was fantastic. He did excellent evaluation and gave me good information about my condition. He ordered several tests, and set an appointment for me to come back after the tests. One of my tests, CAT scan of chest, requires Prior Authorization from my insurance. I had to call the following week to tell the staff person who scheduled this for me. She surely should know this, as she knew also what facilities are preferred providers for the various insurance plans. She said and did nothing about the P.Auth. I called my insurance and asked if CAT scan needed P.A., and they said that the referring doctor's office must request the P.A. This is the standard procedure, is in contracts all insurances have with the Dr. offices. I called Dr. Kaul's office, and staff person told me to have my Primary Doc get P.A. He is not the one who is requesting the CAT scan!! My Primary doesn't have the info to answer their questions - that is why he referred me to Dr. Kaul! I advised her of this and asked her to please process the P.A. request. She hung up on me. I called insurance P.A. dept, they said the referring doc office is who requests the P.A. , and that they all know that. She took info from me, gave me a tracking number, and asked that the Dr office contact them with request. I called Dr. Kaul's Office, and staff said for insurance to fax them what was needed. I said that insurance company told me that P.A. MUST be initiated by Dr office, that they all knew that. She asked where I was having the procedure. I told her, St Lucie West. She said that THEY should request P.A., and that *I* should call them! I asked her if she could facilitate this, please. She said she would see. I still do not have prior authorization. I can NOT afford this procedure, it is covered by my insurance IF the Dr.'s office does what is needed. I NEED HELP so that Dr. Kaul can finish evaluating and treating my COPD. I have been polite, never raised my voice, was not rude or demanding, not said bad words. I have been courteous and only requested normal procedure so I can get medical care that I need. It is beyond my understanding why on earth the staff is so obstructive and hateful! UPDATE: Days later, my insurance company called this office. I am not sure what was said, but suddenly someone I had never seen before called me from that office, all helpful, said she had sent in the Prior Authorization request. She first asked what the insurance company had told me about them, then said never mind, "We are here to help you!". I have a feeling that the insurance company read them the riot act; they (ins) had told me that they had several complaints about his office staff. UPDATE: 3 months later, I had my pharmacy request an Rx refill. They did not hear back from the Dr office. I called the office, and someone said they would get back to me. They did not get back to me, did not send refill Rx to my pharmacy. I need this med to breathe!!! I had my primary do the Rx refill, and will never go back there. I would travel an hour to see someone else. That staff are snotty, rude, and try to mess patients up. A shame, because Dr Kaul himself is very good.

If you'd have asked me in the first six months of our experience with Dr. Talton's office, I'd have…read morerated her higher. Things went South around the time of Covid and proved to be too much for the Doctor after our annual meeting in early 2021. Let me start at the beginning... We moved to Martin County from Chicago in September of '19. Coming from an area with top teaching medical facilities and care we knew that we would struggle to find the same level of care and facilities. We made the decision to join a concierge medical practice in January of '20 for both the personal attention that they offer, as well as helping us find the various specialists that are needed by folks in their 50's and 60's with various preexisting "issues". I accepted this as "the cost of doing business" and knowingly also that nothing at the office is covered by our medical insurance. This is the case at all concierge physicians, though some offer most vaccines, some tests and even blood work. From our initial meeting, though pleasant enough, I got the feeling that Dr. Talton seemed put-off by simple questions regarding the local level of care and the communication between our PCP (her office) and the various other doctors which I see annually (neurologist, urologist, dermatologist, etc.). Her opinion of the Martin Health/Cleveland Clinic situation was bothersome, but she seemed to have valid reasons for her "leaving" their system and going out on her own. I'll give her credit for her referrals. They mostly seem to be very good specialists and for that I would thank her. The main issue here would be follow-up. On almost all appointments with specialists, there was no communication with our Primary Care doctor and the specialist. Many times, the referral was never sent and other times test results or opinions weren't shared. Dr. Talton would always blame the other practice for the lack of communication and follow up. It became predictable. The ongoing excuse was that it was a "Two Person Office" and that it was up to us as patients to follow-up and make sure that things were sent and/or received. Never was anything the fault of the Doctor or Colleen (her lone employee). Prescriptions weren't received, lab orders weren't received, referral calls and paperwork weren't received. Always the recipient's fault. Never Dr. Talton's or her "staff". In May of '20, my significant other had lung surgery in Miami. After being discharged and returning home, there was no communication between our PCP and the surgeon's office. None. I would have expected some sort of conversation, follow-up and concern. Two days after returning home, Caroline was experiencing some "issues", trouble breathing and discomfort. It was early COVID times and I had trouble communicating with the doctor's office in Miami and reached out to Dr. Talton numerous times. Though always available for a quick conversation, never did she offer any suggestions or input. At one point, I suggested a diagnosis and she said that I may be correct. The next morning, we went to the ER at Cleveland Clinic (Martin North). They rushed Caroline into the ER, and quickly inserted a tube into her as she had a collapsed lung. Doctors said that she was very lucky that she came in, as she could have died. She was in the hospital for four days. During those four days, the contact between Dr. Talton and the two of us was minimal. We got information when we asked and rarely proactively. When we spoke with her upon returning home, Dr. Talton casually informed me how lucky Caroline was that she went to the hospital and that she may have died if she didn't go. I wondered why she didn't tell me to take her in for the 36 hours that I was calling her about the discomfort which she was experiencing after surgery, I can't remember it ever being mentioned! We had many conversations regarding the lack of communication throughout our relationship with Dr. Talton. On her last appointment, when asking for clarification on some things, Caroline was told by Dr. Talton (verbatim),"If that's what you're looking for from a doctor, maybe you should move back to Chicago."! In my last meeting, after asking about my difficulty with communication, I was asked, "Who do you think I am, your secretary?"! Dr. Talton released us from our agreement after Q1 of this year. We were already looking to move on and were glad to go! BTW, after my last meeting she had put in a request for a full blood panel in May. I had it done at Quest and the results were forwarded to her office. I've printed it off and brought it over to my new Dr.'s offices. Do you think that Dr. Talton and "staff" would have forwarded it to my new doctor? Do you think that they would have emailed me or called to ask what I want them to do with it? Talk about a lack of professionalism and integrity! Oh, wait, what do I think she is... MY SECRETARY??
