Had several appointments with Dr. Johnson. Also laser treatments. Each time I saw him he was hurried and dismissive but wrote scripts. for me. Received emails for upcoming appoints. I showed up each time. Checked eyes again, no change. Another email, showed up and he came in room an asked me "What are you doing here, I told you I can't help you! Told him was emailed but he said no more appts and said get the cheapest eye drops I could find. Very rude and left the room. Will never see him again! read more

I had an exceptional experience with Dr. Mark Johnson and his staff for my recent cataract surgery. At 72 years old with a very delicate eye condition, I was extremely nervous but Dr. Johnson put me at ease. Not only did I have a very mature cataract, but I was also extremely myopic with a -25.5 prescription - the highest on record at his office. This elongated eyeball made measuring for the precise intraocular lens (IOL) challenging. The measurements showed I needed a special 3-piece lens rather than the standard one-piece. Additionally, a previous eye surgery had replaced my vitreous with liquid, which raised concerns about whether it could adequately hold the new lens capsule in place. Despite the difficulties, Dr. Johnson promised improved vision but was upfront that he couldn't guarantee perfection. I appreciated his honesty. On surgery day at the Sarasota surgery center, the nurses were incredibly kind and attentive. They made sure I was warm and comfortable throughout by frequently providing heated blankets tucked around me at my request. After the surgery, I was overjoyed to be able to see clearly without glasses or contacts for the first time since getting my first -4.50 prescription at age 9! Dr. Johnson even called later to check on me. I am utterly thrilled with the results. Dr. Johnson's skills and his perfect lens selection have given me a new lease on life being able to see with my own eyes at my age despite my eye's complexities. I'm so grateful! Mark Johnson was very abusive to me during my visit today. I am 78 years old and have been seeing him for years. I stayed with him despite his quirks because I thought he was on the autism spectrum and I was trying to be understanding. Today he told he told me several times not to look at his assistant but to look at him because otherwise I wasn't listening to him and if his patients didn't listen to him he had no problem with them finding another doctor. I should have fired him the first time I saw him. He was so rude and talked down to me to me. He is arrogant and apparently has a god complex. My apologies to the autism community. They wouldn't put up with his rude arrogant personality! read more

I had no idea a doctor could be as rude and childish as Dr. Johnson. I had two appointments with him. The total time he spent with me was under 6 minutes. He wasn't interested in hearing anything I had to say. I spoke to his back for most of the 6 minutes. As a patient you wait months to see a doctor and you only get to see him for 3 minutes per visit. I have a fairly serious eye issue so you would think He would entertain a discussion. He clearly said that he wasn't interested in anything but what he sees. Beware. Dr. Johnson will turn on you in a minute, even if you have been a compliant, faithful patient for years. And it doesn't matter how old you are. He "kicked out" my 90 year old parents from his practice. His tone became very vicious during an appointment I attended as an advocate for my parents. I asked a question about how my father's sight and balance may be affected by his Lewy Body dimentia. Dr. Johnson turned on us and lectured, "Sight has nothing to do with balance! Blind people can't see and they don't fall!" He proceeded to examine my father's vision, forcing broken glasses onto his face and lecturing us in a harsh tone that became very upsetting to us. It was awful. He fired questions at my father curtly and quickly, even though he was aware that my father could only answer the questions if he was given a chance. He "kicked us out" without allowing us to have my father's glasses repaired. Dr. Johnson hurt us very badly. I gave him a 1 because a few years ago he helped to diagnose a stroke my mother was having. Our family has been forever grateful for that. But now he scares us. read more

Super Doctor and team members. I was a new patient there for an annual exam. Each team member explained exactly what they were doing and WHY they were doing it. The Doctor also spent 5 minutes at the end of the exam explaining what he found, any treatments that could be necessary in the future. I absolutely would recommend the Doc and his team. This gentleman needs help with chairside manner. Actually, he needs help with basic human interaction! Does not speak directly to patient. Talks quickly and unclearly while rushing through other tasks. He seemed to be contradicting himself, so I asked twice for clarification. His response: "I told you twice, I'm not going to tell you again" and he left the exam room. Unbelievably rude and arrogant! It is his job to provide an understandable diagnosis and treatment plan. So many things wrong here it's hard to know where to begin. Initial paperwork "required" my signing that I would pay an unknown amount "if" refraction was performed. I wrote (not without knowing amount) on form. Gal said I could not write on form and angrily gave me a new form saying I had to sign it. Informed me amount was $45. Informed her I did not know what it was and that I did not want anything extra. She informed me to tell them when they did it. It was NEVER mentioned and was the shortest eye exam I've ever had. Upon leaving I was charged the $45....a REAL SCAM! Also, the nurse flashed a screen and then told me I qualified for cataract surgery! Another SCAM - a 30 second test!! Most unprofessional doctor with inappropriate comments. He felt it necessary to tear down prior eye doctors - I guess to elevate himself?? ALL my prior eye exams (from supposedly incompetent doctors according to him) were FAR better - in depth and professional. Only due to insurance change did I go to him as my regular eye doctor was not in their network. Would NOT recommend him or will not return. read more

I am reviewing Mark on behalf of my mother, who just had a horrible experience with Dr. Johnson's attitude on her visit for a retina scan. After the scan, he was quick to inform her that she had cataracts and was trying to coerce her into committing to a surgery immediately. When she was unsure, he was very rude with her.
