I honestly cannot believe this eye doctor sees kids. His bedside manner is terrible. He came rushing into the room, did not introduce himself, and then wonders why a two year old is crying. He didn't bother to do anything. He didn't grab a toy, try any distraction tools, literally did nothing. He just said well he is crying, bring him back in two weeks. Then, I got a bill for $290. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this office. There are other eye doctors who are much better with kids and charge far less! We had seen Dr Yin there previously and she was amazing. read more

I trust this Dr he is very smart knows his stuff is very meticulous, but the wait times here are ridiculous you wait in the room more than the actual appointment the appointment is literally less than half hour. I didn't like the approach the dr had once felt it was bit insensitive but lately he's been ok and nice. I recommend him cause of his specialty on eye issues the office is kid friendly which makes it less boring for the kids that have to wait. I called in with some worries and he called me back at the end of the work day and we wound up in the ER. Thankfully it was optic disc drusen, but it could have been terrible. I was referred to Dr. Silverberg for my two year old and told he was very good. However I was never able to find out! We had to drive an hour each way to get to his office and then they made us wait for over 2 hours, repeatedly telling us we would be called next. I waited with my very active two year old as 8 more people were called ahead of us (after the second time they told us we would be next). I eventually left when my daughter couldn't stand waiting any longer. Why would you give someone an appointment if you have no time to see them! Especially a young child. I had to take the day off of work for this appointment and had to drive 100 miles round trip. They should reimburse me for the lost wages and mileage expense! read more

At the ripe old age of 79, the prisms in my glasses were no longer very effective at correcting my age related double vision...strabismus. I was nervous on hiking trails, took several falls and did not care to drive after about 4 pm when my eyes were tired. Dr. Winthrop recommended Dr Silverberg, who specializes in strabismus surgery. Dr Silverberg also has a wonderful orthoptist, Eileen, who is highly experienced with eye muscle disorders. Between them, they analyzed my problem and Dr. S strongly recommended surgery. He assured me that my age was no problem as my general health was very good. He is easy to talk to and takes time to answer questions...that said, he is busy, efficient and does not waste time. Surgery .. outpatient...was nowhere near as traumatic as I feared. I woke up with no double vision, and slightly sore bloody eyes that responded to Tylenol. Was home 3 hours later. Dr. Mark Silverberg became a very special person in my family's lives. My daughter at 4 years old woke up one morning unable to uncross her eyes. This was the beginning of a 2 year journey for us. When we saw Dr. Silverberg for the first time he made me feel like we were in good hands. He had a plan of action right away. We followed his direction of patching and and glasses until Dr.Silverberg thought we were ready for surgery. My daughter had the surgery and the outcome was amazing! My daughter was very well looked after. The recovery went very well. A little harder than I thought to keep a 6 year old from rubbing her eyes! After about 3 to 4 days after surgery the eyes were already healing very well and itching was getting better. Three months later my daughter actually passed her first depth perception test at an office visit. It was the first time I have seen her do that. I knew at that moment how amazing this all was! Having lived all my life with strabismus (lazy eye) now 43, I was finally able to get the surgery to fix my eyes. Dr. Silverberg and his staff were highly recommended and lived up to every expectation. The wait times were reasonable and the care was compassionate. I ended up needing two surgeries to straighten my eyes and Dr. Silverberg absolutely nailed it on the second surgery. It was a painful procedure but it was worth it. After seeing countless optometrists, and being told over an over that my eye was perfect (when I couldn't even see out of it) I finally saw Dr Silverberg. His unique Neuro-Opto specialty allowed him to diagnose what dozens of others couldn't find which was Superior Oblique Myokymia. Unfortunately there is no known "pharmaceutical cure" or cause. When our son was a few months old, we recognized a lump under his right eye that seemed to grow. We took him to our pediatrician, who recommended we take him to Dr. Silverberg to get checked out. We are so glad we did. Dr. Silverberg suggested either a hemangioma or lymphangioma, but requested an MRI to be sure. It turned out our son has a combination of hemangioma and lymphangioma. Dr. Silverberg was quick to take aggressive action to help reverse the growth. He has been more than patient in explaining both "-iomas" and is careful to make sure our son is in the best of care. He sent us down to UCLA for a 2nd opinion, which turned out to be another great experience! Our sons' growth has definitely gotten a lot smaller, with all the doctors keeping tabs on him, and Dr. Silverberg is the one to thank. Had he not been so aggressive with treatment, our son would have likely ended up with permanent eye and vision damage. We are still regularly visiting Dr. Silverberg just to make sure all is on track. The office is clean, the staff very friendly, and they definitely know how to work with babies! If anyone out there is looking for relief from strabismus (double vision from mis-aligned eyes), then go no further. If I could give Dr. Silverberg and his opthamology team ten stars, I would. I have essentially suffered from crossed eyes, double vision for over forty years and even had a first strabismus surgery 20 years ago in Dallas that helped greatly at the time, but did not fully resolve the problem. Over the next twenty years, I found myself increasingly unable to resolve the double image problem until January of this year when I happened to meet an associate of Dr. Sliverberg at a social function who recommended him specifically I and made a subsequent appointment. I cannot say enough about the professionalism of Dr. Mark and his entire opthamology team throughout the examination and subsequent eye operation phases. Throughout, I felt like I was in great hands (literally). I was so comfortable and confident with Dr. Silverberg's obvious skills, I was even joking and laughing with the also highly skilled prep crew prior to the operation. The operation was just a huge success. Dr. Mark just nailed the realignment and I had true singular vision when I woke up for the first time in forty years. I might also note that, unlike my previous strabismus surgery, the recovery time has been minimal; I never did need any pain medicine beyond two days worth of Tylenol, and the redness that accompanies the surgery has mostly disappeared. It's been a month now and the joy and wonder has not abated. I'm so pleased with my new gift of normal sight! If anyone is reading this that would love to have the operation but is afraid of the operation itself, I would state categorically my belief that you could not find another Eye Surgeon with greater skill than Dr. Mark and his team! I understand sometimes things take longer, but didn't enjoy keeping a hyper 3-year-old entertained well into her nap time because the office can't see people within a reasonable time frame. Even though it is an hour drive for us to get to Sansum Clinic, it was well worth every trip. When my daughter was about 11 months old, I noticed that she had a lump at the corner of her right eye and it slowly kept getting bigger. At her 2-year checkup, her pediatrician ultimately recommended we see Dr. Silverberg to get it evaluated. Yes, his office is often running a good 15-30 minutes behind, but he was worth the wait. Turns out my daughter had an orbital dermoid cyst that was not going to go away on its own. I appreciated that Dr. Silverberg didn't put her through the added risks of an MRI or CT scan, since the cyst had to be removed anyway, but immediately scheduled her for surgery. Including eye exam to see the impact of the cyst on her vision, the procedure took about an hour and a half. It's 2 weeks later now and I couldn't be happier with how it went!! She's healing up so well that I don't think there will be any noticeable scarring by the time she goes to school. I was concerned about putting her through this at such a young age, but Dr. Silverberg and the staff at the Sansum Eye Center made the experience so positive for her that she wasn't scared at all. And now I don't need to worry that she will suffer any permanent vision damage by waiting too long to get her treated. read more

Our son James has been seeing Dr. Silverberg for about a year year. The first appointment was when James was about 6 months. We have three children under 5 with various special needs and I am a pediatric developmental specialist. I say this because I am always amazed at how many "pediatric" doctors really do NOT offer a child friendly environment for their patients. We enjoy going to Dr. Silverberg's due to the staff being child friendly and most staff developmentally appropriate when dealing with our son but the child friendly environment is what makes these appointments. I don't have to stress being put away in a room for a long time with nothing to do and with everything left out for my son to get into. All the visits with the doctor, we are not called back until he is ready for us. This is a life saver and I am not sure always possible but I love this. This last visit at the doctors new location the exam rooms had ample child friendly things for my son to do. Although my son is a toddler, children up to teenagers had something to play with watch, etc. to help distract them while waiting and during the exam. Kudos...for getting this right. read more

I was originally concerned that he would recommend surgery immediately, but was pleased to see that we exhausted all other options before finally resorting to surgery. When the time came, it was extremely comforting to know that our daughter's was under the care of such a well known and well respected dr/surgeon. I have known Dr. Silverberg for years. Recently, my son's eye was lacerated and his initial appraisal was he would lose perhaps both the eye and be blind. The best hope, was the eye would be saved. I struggled with strabismus, which caused double vision, for many years, but put off doing anything because I was worried about having eye surgery. Finally, I decided to get help and went to see Dr. Silverberg, a well-known strabismus expert. After he explained the procedure, the recovery process and the expected results, I made my decision and had the surgery about a week ago at the Foothill Surgery Center. Everyone at the surgery center was great and my overall experience there could not have been better. The procedure only took about an hour and I went home the same day with no bandages or eye patch and, in my case, didn't even need any pain meds at home. The surgery was a great success. Even before I left the surgery center I could tell that Dr. Silverberg had fixed my vision problem. After the procedure my eyes were red and felt scratchy, but one week later they are well on their way back to normal and I can do all of my regular activities without a problem. Everything good you have read is completely true. I had the Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) and the results were phenomenal. Let's put it this way, Dr. Silverberg is so good, I didn't even have any bruising. The procedure was a piece of cake. I walked out (vision a bit blurry) but without assistance, followed the simple post-op instructions, returned the next day for follow-up, and then returned 1 month later for a check. It has been a great experience and would tell anyone preparing for this not to worry, it is simple and really worth it, I literally "saw" the results and have regained all of my peripheral vision. I recommend the procedure, but cannot guarantee the same results from a different doctor.
