I know it's cheesy but this ride at Disneyland is a classic. If the ride lines are long this one is an easy one to hop on and off especially if your feet are hurting from walking all day. I love how they have characters ride along and wave to the crowds. I thought downstairs re-creation of life on a boat was interesting. Everyone has to try it at least once!
This 14 minute ride was very relaxing and is for all ages! You'll make your way around Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island with a beautiful view of the water! Fun fact: Mark Twain got his pen name from his days of being a riverboat pilot. The name means a vessel is at a safe depth. He was also the author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer! 24 years After 24 years in the Navy, I still go out to sea?!?!? But this time instead of work, I get to enjoy the ride. ;) There's actually two boats you can go on for the river ride. We ended up on the Mark Twain steamer. I forgot the name of the other boat but it supposed to look like a sailboat from the 1700s. There's no assigned boarding group . It's get on the ship and go wherever you want. You can walk to the forward end or aft. The pre reordered message on the 1MC (loud speaker) calls out different points of interest on the starboard or port side. And you can go on either deck of the ship. Overall five stars. It's a nice slow pace where you can catch your breath and enjoy the fresh air. The stream from the two smoke stacks are a nice touch. M
This is the ride I call the "I'm taking a break at Disneyland ride". When spending the day at Disney as an adult, we have to know all the places we can rest at such as shows, train rides, and the mark twain boat. We recharge and go again. Love this boat
Who doesn't love a trip around the River! It seats plenty, I can take my son on it when the others want to ride Big Thunder but he doesn't. It's shaded and chill, and you get to wave at people and make quack sounds at the ducks! What else does one need in life??!? ;)
As the annual pass holder, it's a shame that I never squeezed out the time to get on this boat. My husband and I went to park during the memorial weekend and the park was super packed so we decided to try something that we haven't done yet. The operation hours of Mark Twain Riverboat are from 9am to 5:40pm daily. The boat ride is estimated 15 mins and it will show you around the Rivers of America. You will have a chance to take a closer look at the stage for Fantasmic show and enjoy the following scenes. -Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island -The north bank of the Columbia Gorge -A rustic frontier cabin -An idyllic Native American village -A busy beaver at work chewing on the train trestle -Mountain lions relaxing in the sun -The Disneyland Railroad steaming into the wilderness It's good for a break from the crowds and a hot weather. Overall I like this experience.
Best way to relax after a hectic day at Disneyland. It's a nice ride around the waters of America. The narration has been updated but still charming. You can bring a snack to enjoy on the trip and take in the nice scenery and wave at the people on shore. Try to ride it at dusk - the ambiance is awesome, especially if you can catch the crows coming in to roost. It's a nice alternative when the queues are super long
A trip that I have fond memories of is when I visited Mark Twain's hometown of Hannibal, Missouri. While there, I took a riverboat down the Mississippi River. This ride always brings back memories of that trip. Mark Twain Riverboat is a 12-minute journey around the Rivers of America. It is one of the original attractions that was here when Disneyland opened in 1955. It is located in the New Orleans Square section of the park. I like riding this when I just want to sit down for awhile and sit in the shade. The riverboat has three levels that you can explore. The other boat that goes around Rivers of America is the Sailing Ship Columbia.
The Rivers of America has a couple ships that it is known for and the Mark Twain Riverboat is one of them. This can be a fun attraction if you want to see the Rivers of America and even a glimpse of Tom Sawyer island. It's personally something I generally skip, but I can see adults and kids who like boats enjoying this attraction.
The Mark Twain Riverboat offers you a scenic view as you ride around the "Rivers of America." Make sure to take in the sights on both sides. While off to your right you will get more of a close up view of Tom Sawyer Island, on your left you will pass the sailing ship Columbia. You can also view deer and Native American lookouts and a village as well. The Riverboat operates on a daily schedule and we were able to get on the last ride of the day. Much of the seating is taken up on the ground floor but I personally liked to walk from one side to the other seeing the sites. The Mark Twain riverboat is one of the original rides at Disneyland and was built to represent the steamboats that paddled the muddy Mississippi over a century ago. A description of the steamboat is near where you disembark. It was built to be as authentic as the ones that graced the period. Your ride lasts about 20 minutes and you embark and disembark at the riverboat launch station. The Magic Kingdom counterpart: equal. the Liberty Square riverboat grants us a similiar experience along the Rivers of America. They play a recorded voice of Mark Twain throughout your journey. Due to its proximity and location to Big Thunder Mountain RR and the Haunted Mansion you get some unique views of these attractions along your ride. The Liberty Square riverboat however, tends to be closed a lot of the time I'm there but still makes a great slow ride when you need to slow the pace down. There is usually never a wait to board the steamboat. Hop aboard and enjoy a nice laid back experience. Located in Frontierland in Disneyland.
Nice chill boat ride. Slow and meant for all ages. You can explore the different floors and all the details that the boat has like the portraits and pictures inside. It's a relaxing tour around the Rivers of America and you can see some things you normally don't unless you're taking the train around the park. There's limited seating, just an FYI. I like going on this at night to relax after a long day walking around the parks. Sometimes you can see some of your beloved characters riding the Riverboat, including Princess Tiana!

The whole time at Disneyland we were talking about these Famous solo riders that come to Disneyland by themselves. I love the idea of this. Yeah, I talk way too much to be alone. People start thinking I'm crazy I need somebody standing next to me to hear all the nonsense that comes out of my brain. My friends were in a deep conversation and this was the first time I ever been on this ride . I just happened to be standing next to a guy that appeared to be standing alone. I couldn't really enjoy the ride because I was coming up with scenarios. Why this man would be on this ride by himself. I thought maybe him and his girlfriend I just got in a fight and he went on Mark Twain, to calm down. I just kept running all these scenarios in my head till I finally just said are you here alone? He replied, yeah, I am . I said one of the infamous solo riders. How is that? He says I'm a keyholder and I come whenever I want. I don't have to wait for anybody I get on real quick it's awesome. I said we've been talking about all the people on Reddit looking for solo riders at Disneyland. Kind of use it for like blind date for the day . He was kind of surprised and didn't know about it. He said I'll have to check that out. He said I have an amazing time Alone, and I thought that was really cool. Yeah, don't depend on somebody else for your happiness ! I feel like the Mark Twain is slept on. Sure, it's not a thrill ride. But you know what it is? A great, peaceful trip around the water, giving you a much needed rest from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the park. It's so quiet and it truly feels like you've transported yourself away from Anaheim to a completely different world. I feel like the riverboat is such a unique experience for Southern California (& so many tourists that come from other states or countries) that it needs to be experienced at least once. read more
When it comes to classic Disneyland attractions, it's hard to top the Mark Twain Riverboat. This historic-style steam paddleboat cruises the Rivers of America around Tom Sawyer Island. While what's happened to the sister paddleboat at Disney World in Orlando is nothing short of a travesty, the Disneyland version is still going strong and steaming its way around the park (for now). Let's hope this attraction never goes away, as it is one of the original things to do when Disneyland first opened. The boat itself is beautifully detailed, with multiple decks you can explore. My favorite place to stand is right at the front on one of the upper decks. You have to be able to climb stairs to access most of the boat, but ADA users will be happy to know this attraction is fully accessible on the ground level (which also affords perfect views). Seating is limited, so be prepared to stand for the duration of the ride. I don't mind standing because I often move around to catch different views of the park and enjoy the fresh air. The riverboat is gentle and scenic, offering lovely views of Frontierland, Big Thunder Mountain, and New Orleans Square (bring your camera). This isn't a thrill ride, but a relaxing, meandering break from the park's hustle and bustle. I love riding this boat on crowded days just to escape the bottlenecks. The boat winds around the water and rustic riverbank scenes, complete with animatronic people and animals. It's fun to see what you can spot from the decks. The riverboat has a classic Disney atmosphere too, with a vintage vibe and narration that's corny but immersive. You can step onboard and feel transported back to the frontier days packed with old-timey Americana. The ride lasts about 15 minutes and waits never seem to be too long. I wouldn't opt to wait to ride the riverboat, but since it's usually a walk-on attraction I've never had to. The ride is vastly different at night than during the day, mostly because of the mood lighting that makes the animatronics look more lifelike. I'd prefer to do this one at night, but it's fine any time of day. The Mark Twain Riverboat is a chill experience that's more about atmosphere and history than offering thrills and excitement. If you like enjoying the park at a slower pace, want to relax a little after lunch, or want to escape the heat and crowds, this is the ride you're looking for! read more

It's definitely not the most exciting ride but alternatively it's a good ride to get off your feet that's for sure! The boat goes around in a circle around the Rivers of America (which oddly is only one river). The one part of the boat I didn't know about was the decor below deck which was pretty cool. read more
Love this ride very relaxing and great for resting or taking a break from other rides and crowds. Last ride is 9:40pm on the weekends. This circles the Rivers of America. On the left side your view is of Disneyland from Frontierland to New Orleans Square to Critter County all the way around back to Frontierland. On the right side you see all of Tom Sawyer Island aka Pirates Cove. Overall a great ride to experience while at Disneyland. read more
A fun Paddle Boat ride to take while you're waiting for your fast pass time. During your 15 minute relaxing cruise you'll get a unique perspective of the outer parts of Disneyland. You'll see views of Tom Sawyer's island on your right, the Disneyland Railway and Native American displays on your left. This was a fun slow-paced experience. A nice boat ride after a long day of walking and waiting in lines. My fiancée really wanted to go on this little boat ride so of course we had to go. Before we enter, I asked the employee how long was the ride and they said about 15 minutes. The boat just sail around the theme park and you get to see some nice views of things. Some of the stuff I haven't even seen before so it was nice. We sat on the 2nd deck, where the lifejacket is suppose to be since we didn't want to be expose to the sun. It's a nice boat ride and give you time to charge your phone if you're low on battery or talk to your fiancée. read more

PJ is absolutely amazing. I believe she was joking but she said it was her first time being the captain of the Mark Twain. Very full of knowledge and fun tidbits about the park. My guy and I have been trying for 3 years to get into the wheel house and we went on it with the kids and she asked us to follow her up. Great personality and a perfect match for being a cast member at Disneyland. She let both kids blow the whistle and play with the wheel (for those who don't know it's on a track). According to PJ a few years back someone did crash it into the canoes. We left a compliment at city hall but I want everyone to know how amazing of a cast member she is. I have attached her photo too. We all even got certificates that are going straight into a frame when we get home as that is something very special. read more

I really enjoy the jaunt on this Paddle boat around Tom Sawyer's island. I believe it's about 15 minutes or so. Located in Frontierland. There are no height or age requirements and so this is a nice ride for everyone. I have yet to have to wait for this boa ridet- maybe I am just lucky each time-who knows. The boat is really beautiful and well maintained for so much traffic. It's relaxing to take a moment to just unwind in such a busy theme park. I personally enjoy looking at the ducks and geese that call Disneyland their home. The views of the park are nice and there are some good photo ops. You can also get a peek of the new, Stars Wars Galaxy's Edge, area soon to be open ( yes I am a geek that waited to get a reservation). I am going to go on Tom Sawyer's Island next time we go because it has been years since I have walked around that area. read more
There's something so nostalgic about this old riverboat. Besides showcasing Tom Sawyer Island's rustic beauty, this boat also has a unique history. Since this ride was originally part of Disneyland's opening in 1955, it really has it's own vintage charm. After some problems with the steamboat's opening, like the boat almost capsizing due to it's too many passengers, the ride has since had 60 years of successful voyages. With a couple of remodels (1995 and 2004) since it first opened, this ride remains a classic favorite. Passengers can enjoy a wonderful 12-minute ride circling the Rivers of America. Although I haven't been on Tom Sawyer Island since I was a kid, the island and surrounding riverbanks are very scenic. The ride is relaxing and there are some beautiful scenes of an Indian Village, Big Thunder Falls, the Indian Chief, Settler's cabin, and many other interesting sights. I hope I can get back to enjoy this beautiful riverboat before it temporarily closes on January 10th. Although I know it's time for some serious remodeling, I will miss the ride during the construction! read more

I've visited the Disneyland Resort so many times and for some reason, I never really ventured onto the Mark Twain Riverboat. I finally decided to see what this attraction has to offer and now I'm disappointed in myself for not realizing how great this attraction really is. You will take a 15 to 20 minute journey around the Rivers of America and view so many wonderful things. You'll see the attractions that are housed within Frontierland and Adventureland! Ducks and ducklings swim past the boat frequently. Further explore the river boat and maybe you'll discover something that you've never seen before! I'm not sure if they let guests "drive" the riverboat anymore but you can always ask to see if it's a possibility. It runs on a track so everyone within your pathway will be safe! If you choose to stand at the top of the boat, you may get wet from the misting that is emitted from the rear portion of the boat. I highly recommend exploring this attraction when the park is crowded or if you have become exhausted. Take a break and enjoy the views from the Mark Twain Riverboat! read more
The Riverboat is not currently in motion... but it was still cool to check it out and walk around. There are some tables on the bottom level to sit and relax, or eat a snack you pick up along the way. We checked out the boat, got pictures with Louis, then ended up getting a tour of the boat. Our tour guide I think was a little nervous but she did a great job. We got to go into the locked Captains Quarters and check that out, and then go up the ladder stairs to ring the bell and whistle and sign a cool guestbook. That was awesome! Its about a half hour tour that in my opinion really needed to be only about 15 minutes, but it was some neat information. There are some little tidbits you would never know without the tour. Plus, ringing the bell and whistle is just pure awesome! read more
What can I say, the Mark Twain Riverboat sits in the heart of Disneyland. But did you know, if you have a group of 4 or less, you can ask to sit in the pilothouse on a trip around Tom Sawyer Island? And when your trip is done and you land lobbers are back on solid ground, you get a certificate saying you piloted the Riverboat? Yep, it's no secret, but it's not advertised either. Give it a try on your next trip to Disney. The kids will LOVE it. read more
OK, there's no twists or loops or drops... but don't look at it the wrong way: think of it as the the hugest, most peaceful, prettiest, and most unstationary bench in Disneyland. Who could hate the Mark Twain? I mean, besides people between 8 and 34? For the most part, I love Mark Twain because it's a chance to relax. It's like a 105 foot long bench on water. You get to walk around, too, so it feels like a party. A weird, boring 12 minute party with no food or drinks, but a party nonetheless. So stop giving me grief about my party hat. Anyway, it is similar to the Columbia which, historically, is more "Piratey" and less "Slavey", but the advantage here is three different levels for which to be bored. You pass by the Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes landing, Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, Settler's cabin (which used to be on fire), the Indian Village, Big Thunder Mountain, Big Thunder Falls, some animals*, the Sacred Indian burial ground (which I hear Disneyland is trying to put a pipeline underneath). There you will see an Indian Chief, trying to give you a high five. In all my many visits to Disneyland, I've never been on this boat. Why? Because I get seasick. Why? Because the lines are long? Why? Because I'm a dork. We decided to give it a try one visit, and boarded with our cups of coffee right before they "took off". The boat is huge, though it gets crowded quickly, and there aren't a whole lot of places to sit. The great thing about this attraction is that there's so much to see. The bad thing about this attraction is that there's so much to see. We found a spot along the rail on the top deck, on the starboard side (that's the left side, for all you landlubbers out there). Once the boat gets moving, a recording comes on over the speakers telling you what to be on the lookout for. It's kind of like being on the Disneyland Railroad, except you're on the water, and if you're not close to a speaker, it can be hard to hear. That's really my biggest gripe - that if you're on the top deck, and anywhere near the "smoke stacks", you're not going to be able to hear the narrator talking to you. All you'll hear is the steam escaping the stacks and the people around you talking their heads off. Anyway, if you position yourself correctly, and if you're not afraid to move from starboard to port and back, you can hear the story and see the things that are being pointed out to you. Another good point - they don't sweep the boat between launches. We were able to find a bench on the port side (right side, yo) before they let the next group in, and it made the next trip around the lagoon that much better. read more

Such a nice and leisurely ride on the waters ar the original Disneyland. It's amazing how spotless it is kept besides all the traffic of people that it transports. Be sure to use your most polite and "Southern Charm", for there is a beautiful princess on board. She is ready to mesmerize you with her natural beauty that radiates from her warming eyes and smile. The Mark Twain Riverboat is as good as it gets at Disneyland. It is the best of both worlds...it is a grand adventure that you do not get at other theme parks and best of all you usually do not have to wait long to depart on your journey! My favorite spot in the boat is on the third (top) level. Why spend your trip through the Rivers of America on the bottom level that is the same height as the sidewalk around the river? Being on the top level affords you an AMAZING view of New Orleans Square, Frontierland and Critter Country. It is the perfect spot to take pictures of the park and have pictures taken of your party. The ride itself is somewhat uneventful compared to some of the attractions in the immediate area. Heck within walking distance you can be a pirate or meet up with ghosts in a mansion. The Mark Twain is less about excitement and more about the overall experience. You get the chance to wave at an American Indian chief, observe an American Indian village and check out a pioneer cabin. Where else can you find all that in a 15 minute journey? It takes you longer to go to the store...and you see no Indian villages on the way to Wal-Mart. There is something really magical about the whole Mark Twain Riverboat attraction. Also the best thing of all... Short line, long ride. You do not get much better than that. :0) read more
