Market 32 (owned by Price Chopper) has positioned itself in the best way possible to compete with Wegmans in the minds of consumers who want something "nicer" and with more consistency in quality than the "value-positioned" original Price Chopper stores. The Torrington location is great. Stands out amid sadder versions of Stop and Shops and Big Y stores in the area. Service is terrific. Selection ample. Feels like I'm "getting something" for my investment. Just a cautionary tale: For all of the new shelving, floor tiles, paint, and displays, there comes a price. And just because it's merchandised expertly - it doesn't mean it's worth the value it's priced at. IE: Hellman's mayo, is Hellman's mayo at any store. I love the store. I love that they have an array of Central NY brands (Hoffman's, State Fair/Speedie, etc). But I always make two lists: what are the wants from Market 32 and what are center-store grocery needs that can be purchased for 20% less elsewhere. read more

Market 32 in Torrington is one of my go-to grocery stops. The produce section is usually fresh and well-stocked -- I grabbed a nice watermelon this trip along with some colorful veggies and they all looked great. I also appreciate that they carry a good variety of brands, like the Boar's Head meats and Cabot cheese I picked up. Checkout lines can get a bit busy at peak times but they move at a decent pace and the store is clean and organized. Prices are reasonable for the area and they often have good sales. Overall, a solid grocery store that makes weekly shopping pretty convenient. read more

My husband loves this store for all the fresh meats, cut on the spot. They dont always have specifically what I am looking for but thats why I shop different stores. Prices a tad bit higher than competitors. read more

MUCH BETTER than your standard Price Chopper. I spend A LOT of $$$ in this store, as I work in Torrington currently. Fresh produce, the deli area is efficiently outstanding, and all the employees are very friendly & helpful. Hot soups are also very good, nice selection of wings too. This ain't your mama's Price Chopper. The old Price Chopper has undergone a metamorphoses and was reborn as a fancy Market 32. The old Price Chopper name, look, and identity is gone. In its place is a whole new store and image- it looks more like a Wegman's or a Whole Foods. It's bright and splashy and visually gorgeous. We picked up some pretty good deals today- a package of strawberries for $1.99 and two trays of sushi , tuna and a salmon, for just $6.99 (10 pieces per package). We still like 32 and would shop here more often if it were a bit closer. Over the last three years we've found prices here to be in general lower than the Stop and Shop near us in Litchfield. The stock is much larger, so you'll find more items here especially more gluten-free products. It's right next to a Wal-Mart, so the parking lots can stay filled up much of the day, an occasional aggravation. Overall, though, friendly staff and a well-stocked store make our trips here quite satisfactory. read more

I only come here for the quality of the food and cleanliness of the store. In all honesty, the lady at the self checkout is RUDE. The past 2 times I've gotten donuts. It entered in wrong. She rudely tells me the code 808 for a donut, like it was something I was supposed to know. Instead I had typed donut out on the screen and pressed the button that said donut on it. How am I supposed to know the difference? The people behind the prepared foods section take FOREVER to help anyone. I once stood there for 15 mins before I got anyone's attention. read more

I've been going to Market 32 for a little while now for all my weekly shopping. Their meat selections are better than any major grocery store and everything is typically very fresh and well cut in the meat department. In addition to the standard items they also have hard to find items like veal burgers and peppered slab bacon by the pound. Grocery is what you would expect out of a higher end store. They lack in some of the more common grocery selections but make up for it in other areas by carrying brands you don't see anywhere else. The seafood department is great. Always fresh smelling and again, a healthy assortment to pick from. Produce is where it's at. A very nice and well taken care of department that usually have already rotated everything so you get the freshest stuff. Occasionally I'm purchased something pre packaged and not realized the sell by date was yesterday so it wasn't edible but that doesn't happen often. After everything is said and done this is my go to store for everything. Lately I've been VERY impressed with their bakery. Top notch! read more

I come here for quick lunches because the prepared foods look much better than anything you can get across the street at Stop & Shop. However, today's Philadelphia roll contained *smoked* salmon, without being labeled as such. Not cool. They also charge more than a dollar for a small cup of salad dressing that isn't even enough for half a salad. I object to paying to dress a to-go salad, in principle. They also hide the forks behind the counter, forcing you to ask for one--if there's even anyone there. Déclassé vibe, even for Torrington. read more

We loved this place before, we love it more now after their renovations! The place is clean, well stocked and well-kept with friendly and helpful staff. We love their extensive selection of cheese and deli! I love how they have each selections marked with easy to read descriptions!! Makes it so much easy to pick a choice and always makes us want to try their selections! My husband and I have already discovered a few favorites the staff are kind enough to let you try some of the cheeses and deli meats. Even our two toddlers love coming here because of their shopping "car"ts lastly, we love their market bistro section!!! There's a Starbucks inside and they have pastas, salads, sandwiches, soups and even sushi that one can buy and take to work!!! Overall, it is an awesome grocery store!! Sadly, I wished they kept their hours... they used to be 24hrs and now they changed it to 1am. Still, Torrington is better place because of this store read more

We are part time residents in Torrington. I really love this store. The Produce department as well as the Meat and Fish departments are nicer than any local food store. The Starbucks inside is as good as a stand alone store. All departments are helpful and well stocked. read more

Wow! This my favorite grocery store by far. Its a 28 mile drive from my house and their competitors are closer but the extra miles are worth it. Their vegetables and fruits are the best ive seen. Go there, you will be impressed. After moving up here from Georgia, i was misding Publix and Winn Dixie. Not any more. read more

Went to order several lobsters from the seafood department. Rusty too my order and was furious. He had an mood and poor customer service. He told me I would have to wait over an hour to get it steamed. They lost a customer. I use to shop here daily but will be going elsewhere. Why go and spend money being treated with disrespect?! I remember coming here when it was just price chopper and tammy was the food service manager so I'm going back a few years. Back then the place was pretty good, but then tammy left and got a new manager in the food department and the place was a terrible place to go. I felt so bad for those employees that worked hard but got stuck with the lady that replaced tammy, she was always rude to her employees,, always outside smoking her cigarettes, always on her phone, and you never saw her without a doughnut in her mouth. Very clean, Produce choices are endless!!! Staff had useful answers for every question. I was delighted to see there was a Starbucks!! My only complaint is when i was using self check out (because i work with the public for 2 jobs and sometimes like to avoid socializing, plus I'm picky about how my groceries get bagged) I had an employee interrupt me 3 times to tell me i could bag differently then the way i was choosing to bag. I love shopping there but the head manager harassing the employees about holes I heard the whole and and hes so rude to his staff and the woman manager tells at the employees about uniform and shirt untucked when they didnt realized that it was untucked and the guy in the meat dept is lazy and doesn't care about the customers. What a wonderful store! It's a lot like Whole Foods but without the high prices. We were amazed by the selection of fresh food and prepared options. The staff are also great. In particular Gina who runs the prepared foods area and the manager of the Starbucks (sorry I missed her name) were incredibly welcoming. Even the cashier was great. You can tell the pride the staff have in the store and that they truly want your grocery shopping experience to be more than just doing a chore. So glad we tried this and even though it's a little further for us, we'll go out of our way to come back. read more
