I mostly pop in for a coffee and email reading session, but I have eaten here on a couple of occasions. A Mexican salad and smashed eggs on toast were simple and kind of like something I'd cook at home... but then I really like that! There's a lot of tricked up food in Melbourne and sometimes you want something made with real ingredients that doesn't need to be deconstructed and photographed from 50 angles before you can enjoy it. It's simple and unpretentious and sometimes that's just what you need to help you along with your day. The service is friendly and if you ask nicely they might give you the wifi password.

I came along for the yelp cafe smart fundraiser. Huge open layout with high ceilings and lots of well designed furniture. I really liked their range of coffee brewing equipment for sale which unlike some other cafés around town these guys actually use them all (I'm talking to you sensory lab!). The all important coffee test was a thumbs up - quite nice. I also got a espresso brownie to share and while it was nice found it a little dry and could not taste any coffee. Still the open kitchen was really nice and I would definitely consider coming back for a bite to eat and a coffee. It's a nice place to relax with a book or newspaper and large enough to not feel very crowded or cramped. I like it.

The coffee is obviously Toby's Estate, offered in a range of espresso and filter options. You can even have the option of a single or double V60 pour over, which is uncommon in cafes and perfect if you want a filter without paying a full $6+ for a 2 cup. They also sell coffee paraphenalia for home and run espresso courses if you're a budding barista. I didn't end up trying the food, but the pastry chef popped his head out and tried to tempt my friend and I with some tasty treats as we were getting ready to leave. I packed my will power that day, but if you need a pick me up for a case of 3.30itis, Toby's Estate is a great choice.

I don't even want to post this review because it's a hidden gem in my opinion and I don't want to share it with anyone!!! (I'm an only child, have I mentioned that?) The place is small, but cozy and the staff are so attentive. They also sell three of my favourite things: Darryl's Peanut Butter, Panna Choloctae and freshly baked sourdough bread. Check out their little nook of goodies when you head to the register to pay. The menu changes monthly depending on the fruit and veg that are in season (I'm a sucker for places that do this!). It a great place for vegetarians and vegans because the dishes are so creative and healthy, you never feel like you're missing out. It's also great for all you omnivores and meat eaters. Their dishes also hero juicy bacon, chorizo and sausages as well. Every time a dish is placed in front of me I'm pleasantly surprised with the beautiful presentation and quality of the produce.
