What a great place to catch up with friends! Comfy booths, plenty of light and such a central location. Only a block from Oxford street, and yet plenty of space until the early evening on a Sat night. More of a locals destination. They take a break from food service from 5-6 then convert to a tapas style shared dining experience. 5 choices for 20 pounds is a good way to go with surprisingly delicious and plentiful baby Cumberland sausages, calamari, chili fries or wedges and more. While many places are dark and crammed, market place makes great use of large windows and a nice outdoor patio. Certainly worth checking out if you're in the area and looking for a nice place to spend a few hours.

More than the place itself, I believe that the location of this bar is more impressive. Located right behind Oxford Street, two steps away from Topshop, this is the ideal bar to stop by for lunch or a well deserved drink. There is also a heated terrace at the front allowing you to stop for a drink outside, whatever the weather. The inside of the bar is entirely covered in wood. I enjoy the smell of the wood as you walk in, and there is a good amount of seating inside. I would not recommend heading here on a Friday afternoon since it is full of post-work drinkers and seats will be hard to find.

I went here today for the first time for lunch and it was really good. There wasn't any tables on the ground floor so we had to eat downstairs which felt a little bit like eating in a nightclub but we didn't really mind. They do a lunch special until 4.30 during the week and 7p.m at the weekends. It has a range of lunch mains for £5. I had a salad with spinach, butternut squash, pine nuts, blue cheese and croutons. It was really delicious and unexpectedly came with a plate of bread and lovely olive oil which was an added bonus. My friend got an organic chicken burger with chips, I tried some of the chips and they were perfection; chunky and crispy. The decor is cool too, all wooden tables, benches and panelling like a ski cabin, even the DJ box is paneled. They have funny things spray painted onto the wood two hidden around the place, my favourite was the air vent that had "new air" spray painted onto it, pointless but a nice touch. The service was really quick, you order at the bar and they deliver it over. I did find the bar woman looking very bored and staring at the patrons quite a lot though which is a bit unsettling. Next time I will sit upstairs in the natural light and order the same again, it was delicious and the perfect amount for lunch.

The vibes inside from the furnishings to the menu were all post WW2 celebration themed and set the tone. We had a few rounds of drinks that were WW2 and train themed. The drinks involved various people from that timeframe. Several of the drinks were to be shared by 2 people and all were pretty pricey. I can drink pretty much anything so I ordered the drinks based on the unique containers they were served in. Our server said all the drinks on the menu were served with the apparatus they showed in the menu. When my companions tried ordering the shareable "Is it a pot of Mustard" drink they were told the bar didn't have that container. Hmmmm... Later I ordered the "Operation: Top Up" so I could get it served in the Jerry Can pictured in the menu and the drink just came in a boring glass. When I asked where the Jerry Can part of the drink was, she said unfortunately prior patrons had stolen them so they didn't have the Jerry Cans anymore. HELLO? That is the reason I ordered the drink! Didn't she just tell me the drinks came as pictured? Why didn't she inform me that it would be served without the prop? I certainly would have changed my order if she had done so. Other than several of the drinks not having props available, the drinks were pretty well done and hit the spot of the themed bar. With the bill being higher than expected, I would recommend coming here for only one drink and make sure you ask if your drink will have the prop as pictured in the menu.

We went in the opposite direction on Rupert Street and found this inviting courtyard bar. It's marketed as a gay bar but... The clientele was more mixed than gay. Hey, it wasn't a big deal to us. Especially as we sauntered to the bar bathed in pink and royal blue dayglow. Boys bellying up to the bar. Oh yeah, we home. The print was really small in their comprehensive cocktail menu, but that didn't stop us from ordering more libations. Stop judging us. Jamie went for the £12.50 Margarita, and I continued my Cosmopolitan streak with their £12 one (photo: https://yelp.to/RsyQWeRD5R). We went back into the courtyard to find a table. The leafy terrace and strings of white light were quite inviting, and we ended up hanging out in this sanctuary until they closed at 11PM. Cool.
