BEWARE - This Place Caused More Harm Than Help We placed my…read morehusband in this facility not because he had dementia, but for their Stabilization Program--a program they claim helps observe patients and safely titrate their medications. That was our only goal. Instead, what we got was negligence, misdiagnosis, and silence. There was little to no communication. After three full weeks, they had only changed one medication. Then, without running a single test, they suddenly diagnosed him with vascular dementia. The psychiatrist admitted to me directly that she made that call just by reviewing his past medical history. No cognitive tests. No scans. Nothing. And then, the attending physician made it worse--he put in writing that my husband had both vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. Again, no tests at all. We paid an outrageous amount of money for a "Stabilization Program" that never existed in practice. When I realized no one was helping him and no one could explain what was going on, I made the decision to move him to a new facility. That's when we discovered the truth--he was missing multiple medications the entire time he was there. One was a critical mental health drug that should never be stopped cold turkey. To make things worse, weeks after he left, they still had a bag full of his medications in their possession. This wasn't just poor care--it was dangerous. Their staff also restricted his independence in ways that made absolutely no sense and only seemed to diminish his dignity. I have asked--in writing, multiple times--for full records and explanations. I've received only the documents they chose to send, never the ones I asked for. He told me he felt like he was in prison with three hots and a cot. He was stuck, confused, and silenced. The only bright spot was their activities director, Joey. My husband enjoyed the activities and said Joey treated him well. The food was okay. But the place itself is run down, and the common areas are cramped and confining. I placed my husband in their care because I wanted to help him. Instead, they failed him, and it's taken everything in me to try and fix the damage they caused. If you're considering this facility--don't. Ask hard questions. Push for real answers. And trust your gut. We trusted them, and my husband paid the price.

The only reason I might not give it five stars in this review is for the relative age of the…read morefacility. I'd give Palm Cottages a solid 5 for care. When my mother-in-law, a resident for two years, was sick in ICU, she couldn't wait to go "home, where my friends are, and my cook, Tom!" They don't try to be the fanciest place in town, but it's a warm, homelike atmosphere where she's happy. When Mama was able, every time the wheels rolled on the activity bus, she was on it. When asked where she was going, she would say, "I don't know, but I know I'm going to have fun!" The units or cottages are small enough that those who live there feel like family to each other. It's almost impossible to re-create that feeling in a larger facility. The food is awesome...nutritious and tasty. They're quite accommodating for special dietary needs, too. If you were thinking of placing a loved one here, or going yourself, I think you would be pleased. We are!

Her rent started out at $5500 and went up to $6800 in those two years. Plus all the additional charges. I believe their goal is to drain seniors of every penny they have. I sure hope these seniors have families watching out for them. But as bad as Brennity of Melbourne is, their corporate office, in Texas is very accommodating. Just sad that they have to be called to get things done.

Using the call bell was always a problem of no answer to it. Many times the staff took breaks all together after they had placed the residents in the big open room with no heat and turned on a movie none of them could follow. Wynn is the most reliable and does her best under the circumstances. She was the best but only in memory care part time. The staff also had other places to go during meals when many residents needed help and the kitchen staff was left to fend for herself. My father was older and had his health issues but the Vitas they brought in seemed to want him to pass quickly and he was one of the mobile and verbal and polite ones. I and my family removed him for these and other reasons. We will not recommend this place. Sorry I misread Tyler C.'s entry, his father not mother.

But we noticed a lot of the people there looked like they didn't get drug tested as we were walking out of the elevator to look at some of the rooms, I notice two people on the corner with a drug cart, doing stuff, hiding drugs doing drugs. I don't know if they're supposed to be licensed med techs but it just seemed really weird. We asked if we can sit to have dinner to give it a try. The nice lady said yes that was giving us the tour. The food there was HORRIBLE My daughters burger was burnt mine was raw we found a bug on the table. And said some thing and the waitress said to us that it's a new bag of lettuce that we thought it came from that, but didn't know..If you plan on bringing your mother or father here I suggest you ask if they do background checks and also do your research online PLEASE Also if there's any health department that checks these facilities, this one definitely needs to be checked ASAP. The foods horrible these poor elderly people have to eat and it was horrible. If someone reads this, please make sure to have health department check this out. Also do drug testing randomly on these people because I feel like a lot of them do drugs there, just by looking at them. And seeing some suspicious things going on there.

I'm a caring, compassionate, empathetic nurse who totally can understand we are in the residents homes working for them and I go above and beyond each and everyone of them (residents). The short time I worked there I met so many nice people (residents) who really appreciated things I did for them. Well I got walked out for a hearsay a coworker said. Management don't care about who is good for the residents they didn't even listen to what I had to say it was no harm to anybody and they walked me out. Breaks my heart knowing how good I was for the people living there they could just walk me out. I would say seventy percent of staff are there because they love making a difference and helping the residents live life to it's fullest. The dietary manager is awesome and the food is great. Good luck to you if you take a loved one there.
