I was able to find the modern look and style I was looking for, and the pricing was perfect! The store is owned and operated by a Master Tailor who provides custom fittings for anything you buy. I bought a Calvin Klein suit with a french-cuffed Sean John shirt. I didn't like how the shirt looked on me and wanted a more 'slim fit' look. He took my measurements and custom-fitted the shirt within 24 hours. This little hidden gem of a store works mainly on word of mouth and has been for several years now. They can custom make a suit for you in any style you desire. Regardless of your body type, if you like the look of a particular luxury brand (like a Hugo, Canali, or Zegna suit), bring a picture and they'll make a suit for you just like it... but for a fraction of the price!

One of my favorite shops is Uncommon Gear a very eco friendly place to buy toys, games and gear from strollers to every other nurturing thing kids need. Several home decor and foodie focused shops like Cucina Moderna, Backyard & Veranda (that has lots of stuff for indoors as well). There's even a branch of Stokes (always has sales and fun kitchen gear). The far end of the mall has travel agency, shoe repair...and more, plus access to Canadian Tire. And lastly, if you're into local handicrafts, there's a market just for you on Sundays from 11-5.

The mall also has a variety of the standard cell phone carrier stands, a (too?) small Indigospirit bookstore, Mark's work wearhouse, Hallmark etc. The food court is small but the quality and health consciousness of the non-chain food vendors here makes it a very attractive to stop by for a meal... especially if you enjoy fresh ingredients and want a break from the monotony and excessive food processing offered by the standard fast food chains.

The old lady was especially rude and I would even go to say they were both racist. Kept repeating the mall is closed like we didn't understand English. My partner looked that the 2 boots in the mid-high style that would suit her and asked to try a pair on. The attendant noted that my partner needed to be certain what she wanted to try on as there COVID precautions meant the boots needed to sit in the back for 24hrs after someone tried them on. While my partner tried on the boots I asked for the model info, the initial response from the attendant was "they are Keens" (not duh) Me: yes but what model are they? Attendant: they are in the Targee family I wanted to know the specific model (not the family) as I am familiar with Keens this is still not the info I was asking so I picked up the display boot to Google the product number. Attendant: what are you just going to try them on here and buy them online?! Me: no I asked you for the model info and you wouldn't give it to me. I am familiar with Keens - see the Targees on my feet. My partner concluded that the wide toe box of Keens are not for her, but regardless we would not be buying from this store regardless. I have stopped in this store several times over the years and purchased stuff and least once a year. I have tolerated the poor/gruff customer service in the past to support local, but this was the nail in the coffin. The ownership need to get rid of that woman (the attendant) if they want to survive!! She is unreal... Regardless of if someone is trying something to potentially buy online an interaction like that will not help the local business and it actually will do what it did for us which is deter us from supporting that local store anymore. Very poor customer service experience at the Dartmouth Marshalls tonight…read more I was doing Christmas shopping and brought my own reusable bags, which I placed on the counter at checkout. The cashier scanned all of my items and did not bag anything. After paying, I asked if my items would be bagged and was told no. I was informed that staff are not allowed to bag items if customers bring their own bags and that items are only bagged if you purchase a Marshall's bag. Reusable bags are supposed to exist for environmental reasons, yet this policy feels like nothing more than a money grab. Marshall's no longer provides bags, but then refuses to bag items when customers bring their own. That makes no sense and certainly does not feel customer‑friendly, nor does it feel like its being done for the environment. Marshall's has always been one of my favorite stores, but this experience made me seriously question that and now I am wondering where customer service has gone. I have never had an experience like this at any other Marshalls location. Extremely disappointing!

But friends, don't be deceived - Winners and Marshalls are pretty much the same thing. (Annnd apparently they're owned by the same company) The layouts are the same, the signage is the same, the selection is the same and the staff were basically non-existent, except for the burly security guard that side-eyed everyone who walked in. Even after walking in and thinking "This looks just like Winners.", I gave it a chance. I saw so many folks walking out of the store and around Dartmouth Crossing with Marshalls bags that I thought it must have some good deals. Well, maybe. I'm a larger lady so I headed right to the plus section...or should I say the plus rack. There was one double-sided rack. There were about 20 shirts in different sizes. They were mostly black, or gray, or another dark colour, and they were just kinda enh. The pants weren't any better. I looked around, thinking maybe I was missing something, but no dice. I really found nothing there that made me excited or made me think "Ohhh! I'll be back!" Not sure what all the fuss was about, but unless I hear something better from a trusted shopping companion, I'll stick to other stores.
