I can't believe it, but after raving about my experience with Dr. Marlene Miller's office to my family and recommending them to her, I have cancelled all future appointments and will not be returning. This office is another money-grubbing dentist looking to charge your insurance. I have been a patient for a bit more than a year, and would like to list my concerns: 1.) The office is likely sponsored by Oral B, and they push their electric toothbrush on their patients. I bought a brush based on their recommendation. It hurt my teeth and, after doing my own research, it's common knowledge among periodontists that Sonicare is appropriate for periodontal disease, while Oral B is too rough. I looked the other way regarding the Oral B sponsorship for awhile, but it was always there. 2.) My normal dental hygienist was Laura. Today, I had someone filling in named Lucia. I have had quite many teeth cleanings in my life, and this was the worst. A normal routine cleaning takes maybe 30 minutes. This took nearly an hour, and most of it was not spent cleaning my teeth; as a matter of fact, she barely cleaned my teeth apart from scraping a few. Most of the hour appointment was spent in disorganized conversation, with her either talking about the weather, my career, or irrelevant details from my chart history. I sat with Dr. Miller afterwards and told her, and while she was nice and professional, she was defensive and unapologetic. 3.) During this same appointment, Dr. Miller tried to upsell me on gum grafts in a strange way. I felt like I was in a used car lot. She kept telling me that I would actually be LOSING money by not paying $2000 for her procedure, because of insurance benefits. She wasn't attempting to recommend a procedure due to a medical necessity, but some convoluted argument that it made "financial sense?" I feel really sad, because I loved this office. Dr. Miller is obviously educated, but it's sad that she needs to result to amateur car salesperson techniques to charge my insurance more money. I feel like I'm a customer here, not a patient. read more

I was referred to Dr Miller's office by a classmate (who's mom and sister both have struggled with periodontal issues). I checked out their website before calling for an appointment and really liked what I saw. The perio is young with a full staff of women with a lot of experience. I was extremely nervous going into the appointment. I have had really bad experiences with dentists and periodontists in the past. I seriously started to cry before the doctor even came in. I was just very overwhelmed. This assistant really put me at ease and so did the doctor. She was very gentle through the exam. She was exactly what I needed, she was very step by step with a treatment plan and reassuring. I booked an appointment that day for the deep cleaning (which the doctor is going to be doing herself for me) and surgery (which terrifies the living daylights out of me). This past weekend, I worried about what would happen with the extraction I would undergo on Monday. The tooth was brittle: the crown had come off with a large chunk of the bicuspid still wedged inside. Only a tiny piece remained above the gum line. Dr. Miller got a grip on this stub and gently rocked it until the tooth came out in one piece. This allowed her to put an implant directly into the hole. I am now healing from the surgery. I've been a patient of Dr. Miller ever since she took over the practice from Dr. Dornan. She's extracted three teeth and performed other surgery. I have felt safe in her hands. Her dental implants have never given me a day of trouble. Her office staff is professional yet friendly. I have stuck with her hygienist, Laura, for many years because I have received both top-notch care and seasoned advice. I feel more than comfortable with this practice. I would highly recommend her for any periodental work needed. Referred by my DDS, I'm such a baby when it comes to work on my teeth/gums. My first appt, they checked my insurances to see how much would be covered, that way I would know right off the top (luckily, I didn't pay anything out of pocket! ) When I got there, I went right back, no waiting, and got me comfortable, blanket & turned up the music do I wouldn't have to hear all the scraping noises! She made me feel comfortable, and she numbed me until I felt nothing. She was gentle and kept telling me what was going on...I always knew what she was doing. If you need a Periodontist, I empathize with you but I have some information that will help you. I strongly recommend Dr. Marlene Miller. Sure, she trained at Harvard; and that's a big plus. She and her entire team also are sincere and caring individuals who have the best interests of their patients at heart. And they will go out of their way to help control their patients' costs. I have a couple of examples to show what I mean. The first Periodontist I visited was no slouch. He was recommended by my dentist and he trained at UCLA. However, when it came time to consider a bone graft, his comment to me was "I will try." In his voice, I could hear that he wasn't sure whether the bone graft would work in my case. Those bone grafts are expensive. So, I didn't go with him. After that experience, I wasn't too excited about continuing with the idea of an implant. However, my wife went on-line and found Dr. Miller as part of our Aetna network. I must admit that Dr. Miller's Harvard training caught my eye. Her office location wasn't really close for me, but it wasn't too far. I was willing to go out of my way for a better Periodontist. In the end, Dr. Miller's bone graft and transplant all went exceedingly well. So, I asked her what proportion of her bone grafts fail. She thought a bit and said it has to be much less than 5%. When she and her team started to count up what they had completed, it actually penciled out to less than 1%. To this day I don't understand the hesitation in the first Periodontist. Over time, Dr. Miller has helped me save one tooth. However, I did lose another to infection. The problem was that I still had three of my wisdom teeth and one was pushing on a tooth opening up space below the gum line. I recently had two wisdom teeth pulled and one of those was in preparation for another transplant. This time, Dr. Miller contacted me to check on my wisdom tooth appointment. With that information, she then contacted the Oral Surgeon and convinced him to do a bone graft where one of the wisdom teeth was coming out. He was already in there for an extraction. So, completing the bone graft was not that much more for him to do. That was really thoughtful of Dr. Miller to suggest that! The oral surgeon was impressed, as well. So, there you have it! A competent and experienced Periodontist with a caring and friendly team! In my experience, Dr. Miller and her team will go out of their way and do whatever it takes to complete the best possible job while also helping to control their patients' costs. read more

I normally don't write reviews but my experience was so great from start to finish that I just felt like I had to share with everyone. Getting any dental work is scary and uncomfortable for most people but when you find an office that gives you that comfortable and safe feeling you know this is where you'll have your work done. I need a gum graft and had been looking for a periodontist and came across Dr. Miller on Yelp. I called to schedule my appointment and Gay was the sweetest person over the phone I felt like I knew her before I got there. She greeted me as soon as I walked same sweet, happy and joyful Gay she definitely sets the tone when you walk in!! It's AMAZING! Leah took me back and went over paperwork and my chart to see what was going on and just as friendly and sweet! I felt like I had been going there for years. I even got a follow up call from Dr. Miller this evening just to check in on me to see how I am doing/feeling. Now that is what I call exceptional service! I was really worried about the surgery that I needed to repair my gums (I needed grafting on three teeth); I feared the pain during and after the surgery. Dr. Miller was recommended to me and I have only great things to say about her. First, Dr. Miller was very professional and reassuring. She walked me through the entire procedure before she started, and she talked reassuringly while she was performing the procedure--explaining everything she was doing step-by-step. I am typically a pretty nervous person, especially when faced with the prospect of pain, but Dr. Miller calmed me down and made the entire procedure be as painless as possible. And I did in fact feel no pain during the procedure, I had absolutely no problems with it and I healed very quickly. In addition, Dr. Miller's staff was very professional. I went to Dr. Miller for a gum procedure and came into the appointment very nervous for two reasons, the procedure itself (the pain, recovery, etc) and of course, the financial responsibility. Within a couple minutes of being settled in, they literally answered every single question I had, whether it was one that involved the details of the actual procedure (down to the nitty gritty) or whether it was questions that needed answers to calm my nerves and worries. They were very detailed in every aspect of the appointment, from the instructions the night before, to maintenance, and to how I could personally, establish a payment plan that would be best for me. The procedure took place and I couldn't have been happier. I went into it relaxed and at ease, all thanks to the trust I had found in Dr. Miller. Coming out of the procedure, she was there until I was comprehensive of the situation and made sure that every need I had was addressed. Days after the procedure, every question I had was addressed over the phone, and if it wasn't resolved, I was brought into the office and it was made certain it was solved by Dr. Miller and her staff. I agree with another reviewer that this office puts the hard sell on you and does not offer a dental plan that would be in your best interests. I visited the office a few years back to see about gum grafts and was taken aside after the Dr. examined me by a "sales gal" who presented the plan for me to have way more work done than I truly think I needed. In fact, I saw another perio for a 2nd opinion later and he suggested doing about 1/2 the work Dr Miller had recommended. That being said, I totally chickened out because of the potential pain involved but am now looking to finally get my receded gums corrected. I do not recommend Dr. Miller.
