For those who aren't familiar, the word "meeting" in Quakerism, can refer to the meetinghouse…read more(Quaker version of a church), the actual Meeting for Worship (Quaker version of a service), or the body of meeting members (Quaker version of a congregation). For clarity, and to avoid redundancy, I will try to specify which is which, below. This is a small meeting, as in there are only a handful of attendees (not even sure if they qualify as members), due to its state of renovation/construction. The meetinghouse is in need of much repair, and it is slowly happening with aid from the Newtown Square Historical Society, but, while regular Sunday Meeting for Worship is held here, it is not a fully functional meeting, and hasn't been for many years. We attended MfW here for a few months in 2015. I grew up Quaker, and sometimes appreciate MfW when I am in need of respite or guidance, however, I would not call myself a practicing anything, in my adult life. That said, this meeting is pleasantly noncommittal, and lacks the group congregation factor that most meetings (or any religious organizations) possess. This can be nice if you just want a quiet meditation, or two. The very few who attend, are welcoming. The caretaker who lives in the adjacent house, opens the building and preps everything to be ready Sundays at 10am. Sometimes no one shows, so if you pop in, don't be alarmed if you are the only one there, you're still welcome, and the caretaker will close up after you. Note that at the time we attended, there was no heat in the winter, except a small wood stove, and after a glance at the fb updates, I don't think this has changed, so wear many layers in winter, because it's freezing. The efforts of the Historical Society are to undo old renovations that covered or damaged original features of the building, while also making necessary repairs and updates, to create a functional and improved space. There are not many funds, so this is a very slow process, which will take years. Most local Quakers attend nearby Willistown, Radnor, or Media (3rd St or Providence) Meetings. There is no First Day School at this meeting, and I do not recommend bringing children to Meeting for Worship here if temperatures are extreme (hot or cold), because it is difficult even for adults (me, at least) to be comfortable. Last I knew, this meetinghouse offered an open house on Newtown Square Day, where you can visit and learn more about it. I applaud the small number of members of this meeting for their efforts to make it whole again.

Marple Presbyterian is one of the most welcoming churches that I have ever had the chance to…read moreattend. 4 years ago they brought me in to be a singer in their adult choir, and ever since I have been hooked; the music is always well selected and aligned with the liturgy. Rev. Nelson's sermons are always filled with messages of faith, love, and compassion. She follows the presbyterian doctrine almost perfectly while making sure to equate her biblical theology to real life on a regular basis. The members of the church are giving and participate in a myriad of amazing community projects like Connect by Night (providing shelter for Homeless people within the church) and Alcoholics Anonymous. They take great pride in their church, and have had it made into a historic landmark, and it other churches often choose to use Marple Presbyterian as the central location when they all combine congregations together for community worship services. The Congregation is inviting, friendly, and very helpful. They are also some of the most giving people I've met, running care package programs for troops overseas, and sending supplies to different shelters and the Christmas Angel programs. You would be beyond pleased with an experience at MPC, and you should come worship at this church... you will not regret it.

They hold lots of activities for children, have a lively Sunday School and Youth Group, and fun filled Vacation Bible School. They have a whole list of groups the adults can be involved in from book clubs to a meet and eat group that socializes and even attends shows together. If you want to feel welcomed and feel the warm embrace of faithfulness, this is the place to do it!

I thought this was a wonderful contribution towards those who may be in need around this time of year. Helping families in need is a wonder and I knew I just HAD to donate my loafers. I was so excited to make a poor persons day but of course. This church would not let me donate my shoes due to the fact that they were "too worn". I understand that there is a point of shoes being too worn, but these babies were not. A few spots of mud never hurt anyone, especially those in need. A person who is running out of shoes does not care about a speck of mud, but play Grace Chapel. It honestly made me question my religion, but I am an avid God worshipper, so it only messed up my day. I love god still and I actually drove into Philly to give my shoes away because I wasn't going to let them go to waste. Thanks a lot Grace Chapel for taking my gas.

Temple Sholom is what a spiritual community should be. It's open, accepting, warm, and friendly to…read moreall who wish to belong. There is a real sense of belonging and care for one another. No pretenses, no cliques, just nice people who enjoy each other's company. It has an active preschool and many groups and activities besides regular Shabbat and holiday services. Equally wonderful are the clergy. Rabbi Peter Rigler is warm and caring. His sermons are always engaging and timely. His sense of humor is exceptional. Cantor Jamie Marx is another treasure. He plays guitar and leads our active choir which is quite good. The whole congregation loves to sing. We've been members for 30 years as I write this. We were blessed to find Temple Sholom and we're blessed it's as great a community today as it was the day we first came for a visit. As their slogan says, "Temple Sholom, it's Where You Belong!"
